NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on BRICS nations to take a more active role in efforts to restore peace in West Asia, saying the grouping must “stand on the right side of history” as the conflict in the region continues to exact a high human cost.
Addressing the BRICS gathering on Saturday, Xi said the worsening situation across West Asia and the Gulf was causing serious suffering and losses among people in the region.
He argued that the continuation of the war runs contrary to the broader interests of the international community.
Xi urged BRICS to assume a pioneering role not only in economic and innovative development but also in safeguarding peace and stability.
He said the grouping should promote greater understanding among civilisations and contribute to reforms in global governance, to make the international order more equitable and just.
The Chinese leader also highlighted the evolution of BRICS over the past two decades.
He said member countries had spent 20 years pursuing greater self-reliance while charting development strategies compatible with their respective national circumstances.
According to Xi, their collective experience has demonstrated how emerging markets and developing nations can strengthen themselves through cooperation and unity.
He described the period as two decades of countries supporting one another through challenges, underscoring the importance of solidarity within the grouping.
On international security, Xi said BRICS should champion a framework based on common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security.
He called for opposition to Cold War-era thinking and the formation of rival blocs.
The Chinese president further argued that countries should respect one another’s sovereignty and refrain from interfering in domestic affairs.
BRICS, he said, should contribute constructively to the settlement of international flashpoints and help develop solutions that tackle both the immediate manifestations and underlying causes of conflicts.
Turning specifically to West Asia, Xi described the regional situation as complicated and rapidly changing.
He said the ongoing war had brought severe consequences for people across the region and did not advance the shared interests of the wider international community.
Xi said China had presented four proposals aimed at protecting and advancing peace and stability in West Asia.
The broad objective, he said, was to reduce tensions, bring hostilities to an end and create conditions conducive to peace.
He appealed to the parties involved to pursue a political solution and work towards a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.
China, he added, would cooperate with other BRICS members in contributing to peace and stability in the region.
Xi also placed the West Asia crisis within what he described as a broader transformation of the international system.
He said the world was experiencing changes of a scale not witnessed in a century, while the Global South was becoming increasingly influential and the movement towards a multipolar world was gaining irreversible momentum.
In an apparent criticism of the United States, Xi said unilateralism and power politics were creating countervailing pressures at a time when multilateral institutions and the existing international order were facing growing challenges.
He also pointed to widening gaps in peace, development, security and global governance.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Kremlin, meanwhile emphasised the principles underpinning cooperation within BRICS.
He said the grouping’s partnerships were founded on equality, good-neighbourly relations and consideration for one another’s interests, alongside respect for members’ diverse cultures, civilisations, histories, traditions and values.
Putin said these principles had contributed to the steadily expanding credibility and international influence of BRICS.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also placed national sovereignty at the centre of his remarks.
According to the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, he said lasting security could only be achieved when the sovereignty of nations was fully respected, and the notion of security for some countries at the expense of insecurity for others was rejected.
Pezeshkian also warned against allowing national territories to be used as platforms for threats against neighbouring states.
He said this principle should not be compromised and called on BRICS to oppose what he described as the normalisation of attacks against civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities.

नई दिल्ली: चीन के राष्ट्रपति शी जिनपिंग ने पश्चिम एशिया में जारी संघर्ष के बीच BRICS देशों से शांति स्थापना के प्रयासों में अधिक सक्रिय भूमिका निभाने का आह्वान किया है।
शनिवार को BRICS सम्मेलन में बोलते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि समूह को इतिहास के सही पक्ष में मजबूती से खड़ा होना चाहिए और क्षेत्र में शांति बहाल करने में अपनी उचित भूमिका निभानी चाहिए।
शी ने कहा कि पश्चिम एशिया और खाड़ी क्षेत्र में परिस्थितियां लगातार बदल रही हैं और वहां जारी युद्ध ने आम लोगों को गंभीर नुकसान पहुंचाया है।
उनके मुताबिक, संघर्ष का जारी रहना न तो क्षेत्र के लोगों के हित में है और न ही अंतरराष्ट्रीय समुदाय के साझा हितों के अनुरूप है।
चीनी राष्ट्रपति ने BRICS को विकास और नवाचार के साथ-साथ शांति एवं स्थिरता के क्षेत्र में भी अग्रणी भूमिका निभाने की जरूरत बताई।
उन्होंने कहा कि समूह को विभिन्न सभ्यताओं के बीच आपसी समझ बढ़ाने और वैश्विक शासन व्यवस्था में सुधार के लिए काम करना चाहिए।
उनका जोर ऐसी अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यवस्था पर था, जिसमें अधिक न्याय और समानता सुनिश्चित हो तथा मानवता के साझा भविष्य के निर्माण के लिए देश मिलकर आगे बढ़ें।
शी ने BRICS की दो दशक लंबी यात्रा का भी उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले 20 वर्षों में सदस्य देशों ने आत्मनिर्भरता और अपनी क्षमताओं को मजबूत करने पर जोर दिया तथा अपनी राष्ट्रीय परिस्थितियों के अनुरूप विकास के रास्ते तलाशे।
उनके अनुसार, BRICS देशों के अनुभव ने उभरती अर्थव्यवस्थाओं और विकासशील देशों के बीच एकजुटता के माध्यम से आत्म-सशक्तीकरण की मिसाल पेश की है।
उन्होंने कहा कि इन दो दशकों के दौरान BRICS देशों ने मुश्किल परिस्थितियों में भी एक-दूसरे का साथ दिया है। शी के मुताबिक, यह आपसी सहयोग समूह की महत्वपूर्ण ताकत बना हुआ है।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के मुद्दे पर शी ने BRICS देशों से साझा, व्यापक, सहयोगात्मक और टिकाऊ सुरक्षा की अवधारणा को आगे बढ़ाने का आग्रह किया।
उन्होंने शीत युद्ध की मानसिकता और गुटों के बीच टकराव की राजनीति से दूर रहने की जरूरत बताई।
उन्होंने कहा कि देशों की संप्रभुता का सम्मान किया जाना चाहिए और उनके आंतरिक मामलों में हस्तक्षेप का विरोध होना चाहिए।
शी ने BRICS से अंतरराष्ट्रीय विवादों और संवेदनशील मुद्दों के समाधान में रचनात्मक योगदान देने की अपील करते हुए कहा कि प्रयास केवल संघर्ष के तत्काल कारणों तक सीमित न रहें, बल्कि उनकी जड़ तक पहुंचने वाले समाधान भी तलाशे जाएं।
पश्चिम एशिया की स्थिति का जिक्र करते हुए चीनी राष्ट्रपति ने इसे जटिल और तेजी से बदलता हुआ बताया।
उन्होंने कहा कि युद्ध ने क्षेत्र के विभिन्न देशों के लोगों को गंभीर नुकसान पहुंचाया है और यह व्यापक अंतरराष्ट्रीय हितों के खिलाफ है।
शी ने बताया कि चीन ने पश्चिम एशिया में शांति और स्थिरता बनाए रखने तथा उसे बढ़ावा देने के लिए चार प्रस्ताव रखे हैं।
इनका उद्देश्य तनाव कम करना, युद्ध और शत्रुता समाप्त करना तथा शांति की दिशा में आगे बढ़ने के लिए परिस्थितियां तैयार करना है।
उन्होंने संबंधित पक्षों से राजनीतिक समाधान की दिशा में आगे बढ़ने और स्थायी तथा व्यापक युद्धविराम के लिए प्रयास करने की अपील की।
शी ने कहा कि चीन क्षेत्र में शांति और स्थिरता लाने के लिए अन्य BRICS देशों के साथ मिलकर अपनी भूमिका निभाएगा।
चीनी राष्ट्रपति ने मौजूदा संघर्ष को वैश्विक व्यवस्था में हो रहे व्यापक बदलावों से भी जोड़ा। उन्होंने कहा कि दुनिया एक सदी में न देखे गए तेज बदलावों के दौर से गुजर रही है।
साथ ही, ग्लोबल साउथ की ताकत तेजी से बढ़ रही है और बहुध्रुवीय विश्व व्यवस्था की दिशा में बढ़ता रुझान अब रोका नहीं जा सकता।
अमेरिका पर परोक्ष निशाना साधते हुए शी ने कहा कि एकतरफावाद और शक्ति-राजनीति की प्रवृत्तियां फिर उभर रही हैं।
उन्होंने कहा कि बहुपक्षवाद और मौजूदा अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यवस्था पर दबाव बढ़ रहा है तथा शांति, विकास, सुरक्षा और वैश्विक शासन से जुड़े अंतर लगातार गंभीर होते जा रहे हैं।
इस बीच, क्रेमलिन के अनुसार रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन ने BRICS सहयोग के मूल सिद्धांतों को रेखांकित किया।
उन्होंने कहा कि समूह के भीतर साझेदारी समानता, अच्छे पड़ोसी संबंधों और एक-दूसरे के हितों के सम्मान पर आधारित है।
साथ ही, सदस्य देशों की अलग-अलग संस्कृतियों, सभ्यताओं, इतिहास, परंपराओं और मूल्यों के प्रति सम्मान भी इस सहयोग का अहम आधार है।
पुतिन ने कहा कि इन्हीं सिद्धांतों के चलते वैश्विक स्तर पर BRICS की विश्वसनीयता और प्रभाव लगातार बढ़ रहा है।
ईरान के राष्ट्रपति मसूद पेजेशकियन ने भी अपने संदेश में राष्ट्रीय संप्रभुता को महत्वपूर्ण स्थान दिया।
नई दिल्ली स्थित ईरानी दूतावास के अनुसार, उन्होंने कहा कि टिकाऊ सुरक्षा तभी संभव है, जब देशों की संप्रभुता का पूरी तरह सम्मान किया जाए और ऐसी सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को खारिज किया जाए जिसमें कुछ देशों के लिए सुरक्षा और अन्य के लिए असुरक्षा की स्थिति बनी रहे।
पेजेशकियन ने पड़ोसी देशों के खिलाफ धमकी देने के लिए किसी देश के क्षेत्र के इस्तेमाल को रोकने की आवश्यकता पर भी जोर दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस सिद्धांत से समझौता नहीं किया जा सकता। साथ ही, उन्होंने BRICS से नागरिक बुनियादी ढांचे और शांतिपूर्ण परमाणु प्रतिष्ठानों पर होने वाले हमलों को सामान्य मानने की प्रवृत्ति का विरोध करने का आह्वान किया।
