Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu during the BRICS Summit, with India reaffirming its ties with Iran amid the West Asia conflict.
NEW DELHI: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian received a high-profile welcome in New Delhi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, with President Droupadi Murmu hosting him at the Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of the summit’s opening session.
Pezeshkian was the only visiting dignitary to be hosted by the Rashtrapati Bhavan during the summit.
His visit assumed added significance as tensions and military confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel continue to shape the geopolitical situation in West Asia.
The Iranian leader, who arrived in the national capital accompanied by his daughter Zahra, held detailed bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
The talks focused on the longstanding relationship between the two countries at a time when developments in West Asia have placed Iran at the centre of intense international attention.
During his engagement at the presidential estate, Pezeshkian also visited the Iranian Hall, housed in the grand Ashok Mandap.
The venue contains an important collection of Persian artwork from the Qajar period, including works associated with the reign of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, the second Shah of Qajar Iran, who ruled from 1797 until he died in 1834.
Welcoming Pezeshkian to India on his first visit, President Murmu acknowledged Iran’s support during India’s BRICS presidency, according to a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The two leaders also reflected on the deep historical relationship between India and Iran, particularly their extensive cultural connections and strong links between their peoples.
Murmu reiterated India’s position in favour of lasting peace and stability in the region.
Pezeshkian’s presence stood out among the diplomatic engagements surrounding the India-hosted BRICS gathering.
New Delhi’s reception for the Iranian president underscored the importance it attaches to its relationship with Tehran, particularly against the backdrop of the continuing conflict in West Asia.
The Iranian delegation’s engagement extended beyond official diplomacy.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi accompanied Pezeshkian’s daughter Zahra to the BRICS Bazaar at the National Crafts Museum, located next to Bharat Mandapam.
The bazaar brought together traditional artisans and cultural products representing BRICS member countries.
Devi said she was pleased to welcome Zahra Pezeshkian and show her around the exhibition, describing it as an opportunity to showcase the artistic traditions, craftsmanship and cultural heritage represented by BRICS members and partner nations.
Pezeshkian had also attended an event organised by the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi a day earlier.
The gathering brought together people representing different communities, faiths and political backgrounds.
Addressing the gathering, the Iranian president struck a defiant note on the conflict and Iran’s position towards external pressure.
He asserted that Iran would not bow down and would not capitulate in the face of what he described as pressure and oppression from the United States and Israel.

नई दिल्ली: भारत की मेजबानी में आयोजित BRICS Summit के बीच ईरान के राष्ट्रपति मसूद पेजेशकियन को नई दिल्ली में विशेष राजकीय आतिथ्य मिला।
शिखर सम्मेलन के उद्घाटन सत्र से पहले राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने राष्ट्रपति भवन में पेजेशकियन की मेजबानी की। सम्मेलन के दौरान राष्ट्रपति भवन में किसी विदेशी नेता की यह विशेष मेजबानी रही।
पेजेशकियन अपनी बेटी ज़हरा के साथ भारत पहुंचे थे। राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में पहुंचने के बाद उन्होंने शुक्रवार को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के साथ विस्तृत द्विपक्षीय वार्ता की।
दोनों नेताओं की बातचीत ऐसे समय हुई है, जब ईरान, अमेरिका और इजरायल से जुड़े घटनाक्रमों के कारण पश्चिम एशिया का संकट लगातार अंतरराष्ट्रीय चिंता का विषय बना हुआ है।
राष्ट्रपति भवन की यात्रा के दौरान पेजेशकियन ने वहां स्थित ईरानी हॉल का भी दौरा किया। भव्य अशोक मंडप में मौजूद इस हिस्से में काजार काल की उल्लेखनीय फारसी कलाकृतियां प्रदर्शित हैं।
इनमें ईरान के दूसरे काजार शाह फतह-अली शाह काजार के शासनकाल से जुड़ी कलाकृतियां भी शामिल हैं। फतह-अली शाह ने जून 1797 से अक्टूबर 1834 में अपने निधन तक शासन किया था।
भारत की अपनी पहली यात्रा पर आए पेजेशकियन का स्वागत करते हुए राष्ट्रपति मुर्मू ने भारत की BRICS अध्यक्षता के दौरान ईरान की ओर से मिले सहयोग की सराहना की। राष्ट्रपति भवन की ओर से जारी बयान में यह जानकारी दी गई।
दोनों नेताओं ने भारत और ईरान के बीच सदियों पुराने मैत्रीपूर्ण संबंधों पर भी चर्चा की। बातचीत में दोनों देशों के बीच मजबूत सांस्कृतिक रिश्तों और जनता के स्तर पर लंबे समय से चले आ रहे संपर्कों को विशेष महत्व दिया गया।
राष्ट्रपति मुर्मू ने क्षेत्र में स्थायी शांति स्थापित करने के भारत के संकल्प को भी दोहराया।
भारत में आयोजित BRICS Summit के दौरान हुए विभिन्न राजनयिक संपर्कों में पेजेशकियन की यात्रा विशेष रूप से महत्वपूर्ण रही।
पश्चिम एशिया में जारी संघर्ष की पृष्ठभूमि में नई दिल्ली ने जिस गर्मजोशी से ईरानी राष्ट्रपति का स्वागत किया, उससे दोनों देशों के ऐतिहासिक और सभ्यतागत संबंधों के महत्व का संकेत मिला।
पेजेशकियन की बेटी ज़हरा ने भी भारत यात्रा के दौरान सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम में हिस्सा लिया।
केंद्रीय मंत्री अन्नपूर्णा देवी उन्हें भारत मंडपम से सटे राष्ट्रीय शिल्प संग्रहालय में आयोजित BRICS Bazaar लेकर गईं। इस बाजार में BRICS के सदस्य देशों के कारीगरों और उनकी पारंपरिक कला एवं शिल्प को प्रदर्शित किया गया।
अन्नपूर्णा देवी ने सोशल मीडिया मंच X पर कहा कि उन्हें ज़हरा पेजेशकियन का स्वागत करने और उन्हें BRICS Bazaar का भ्रमण कराने का अवसर मिला।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस दौरान BRICS सदस्य और साझेदार देशों की समृद्ध कला, हस्तशिल्प, परंपराओं और सांस्कृतिक विरासत को करीब से देखने का मौका मिला।
इससे एक दिन पहले नई दिल्ली स्थित ईरानी दूतावास ने राष्ट्रपति पेजेशकियन के सम्मान में एक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किया था।
इसमें विभिन्न समुदायों, धर्मों और राजनीतिक विचारधाराओं से जुड़े प्रतिनिधियों ने हिस्सा लिया।
कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए पेजेशकियन ने ईरान के रुख को लेकर कड़ा संदेश दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि ईरान किसी दबाव के आगे झुकने को तैयार नहीं है और अमेरिका तथा इजरायल की ओर से आने वाले दबाव या कथित उत्पीड़न के सामने कभी आत्मसमर्पण नहीं करेगा।
