Communal Clash Erupts in Bihar’s Jamui During Religious Procession, Internet Services Suspended
A violent altercation between two communities erupted in Bihar’s Jamui district during a religious procession, prompting swift action from the state administration. In response to the situation, the government has temporarily suspended internet services in the district to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain law and order, an official confirmed on Monday.
Incident Details
The clash took place on Sunday in Jhajha, a town in the Jamui district, where members of two different communities engaged in a heated dispute during a religious procession. According to reports, the confrontation escalated quickly, leading to stone-pelting from both sides. As a result, three individuals sustained injuries.
Jamui District Magistrate (DM) Abhilasha Sharma confirmed that law enforcement authorities swiftly intervened to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence. The injured individuals were immediately transported to the nearest government hospital, where they received medical treatment. Fortunately, their conditions were reported to be stable and out of danger.
To ensure the situation does not escalate further, security forces were deployed in the area, and precautionary measures were put in place
The district police have taken strict measures to address the incident and hold those responsible accountable. A case has been registered against 50-60 unidentified individuals who were allegedly involved in the violence.
“So far, nine people have been arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations are underway to identify others responsible for instigating the violence,” said DM Abhilasha Sharma.
Additionally, a police official has been suspended for negligence and failure to perform his duty effectively during the communal clash. Authorities are taking a strong stance against any lapses in law enforcement to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
To reassure residents and restore a sense of normalcy in Jhajha, the district police conducted a flag march on Monday. The march was aimed at demonstrating the presence of law enforcement, deterring any potential disturbances, and sending a strong message that public safety remains a top priority.
Local authorities have also increased security surveillance in sensitive areas, with additional police personnel stationed at key locations to prevent further incidents. Regular patrols and monitoring are being carried out to ensure that communal harmony is maintained.
As part of precautionary measures, the Bihar state government has decided to suspend internet services in Jamui district until February 18. The move is intended to curb the spread of rumors, inflammatory messages, and misinformation through social media and other digital platforms, which could potentially aggravate tensions.
“In the interest of maintaining public order and preventing the circulation of provocative content, internet services have been temporarily suspended in the district,” the district magistrate stated.
Following the swift action taken by the police and district administration, authorities have confirmed that the situation in Jhajha is now completely under control. Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies while the investigation continues.
“We have restored peace in the area, and there is no cause for concern at this moment. The administration is keeping a close watch on developments to ensure that no further disturbances occur,” DM Abhilasha Sharma assured.
The local administration continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and stability in the region. Further arrests may be made as investigations progress, and authorities remain vigilant to prevent any recurrence of communal tension in the district.
