Dausa Bus Fire Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to Eight After Sleeper Bus Bursts Into Flames on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
A devastating road accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district claimed at least eight lives and left more than two dozen passengers injured after a private sleeper bus rammed into a truck and caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday.
The tragedy unfolded just before dawn and triggered a massive rescue operation. Initial reports had confirmed seven deaths, but the toll later rose to eight as another injured passenger succumbed to injuries.
The accident occurred near Dhanawda village under the jurisdiction of Kolwa police station at around 3:30 am.
According to Dausa Superintendent of Police Piyush Dixit, several passengers became trapped inside the burning bus after the collision.
While some died in the blaze, others sustained critical injuries, including severe head trauma, proving fatal despite medical treatment. (
Officials said the Hans Travels sleeper coach was travelling from Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, when it crashed into a truck moving ahead on the expressway.
The impact was so powerful that the bus burst into flames within moments, leaving passengers with little time to escape.
Eyewitnesses said panic spread quickly as thick smoke and flames engulfed the vehicle.
Several passengers managed to break windows or rush out through available exits, while many others had to be rescued by police personnel, firefighters, and residents who reached the spot immediately after the accident.
Rescue teams worked under extremely difficult conditions due to the intensity of the fire.
More than 24 injured passengers were shifted to Dausa District Hospital and nearby medical facilities, where doctors are providing treatment.
Officials said several victims suffered burn injuries and fractures, while a few remain in critical condition.
Soon after receiving information, police teams, fire brigade personnel, highway patrol units, and district administration officials rushed to the scene.
Firefighters battled the flames for a considerable time before bringing the blaze under control.
Rescue workers then searched the charred remains of the bus to ensure no passenger was left trapped inside.
Authorities have seized the damaged vehicles and launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Preliminary findings suggest the bus rammed into the rear of the truck, but investigators are examining factors such as speed, driver visibility and possible negligence before concluding.
The tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns over road safety on India’s high-speed expressways, particularly involving long-distance sleeper buses operating during overnight hours.
Officials are expected to analyse the circumstances surrounding the crash to identify measures that could help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

राजस्थान के दौसा जिले में दिल्ली-मुंबई एक्सप्रेसवे पर बुधवार तड़के हुए भीषण सड़क हादसे में कम से कम आठ लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि दो दर्जन से अधिक यात्री घायल हो गए। यह दर्दनाक दुर्घटना उस समय हुई जब एक निजी स्लीपर बस आगे चल रहे ट्रक से टकराने के बाद आग की चपेट में आ गई। शुरुआत में सात लोगों की मौत की पुष्टि हुई थी, लेकिन बाद में एक अन्य घायल यात्री ने भी दम तोड़ दिया, जिससे मृतकों की संख्या बढ़कर आठ हो गई।
यह हादसा कोलवा थाना क्षेत्र के धनावड़ा गांव के पास सुबह करीब 3:30 बजे हुआ। दौसा के पुलिस अधीक्षक पीयूष दीक्षित के अनुसार, टक्कर के बाद बस में तेजी से आग फैल गई और कई यात्री अंदर ही फंस गए। कुछ लोगों की मौत आग में झुलसने से हुई, जबकि कुछ यात्रियों ने गंभीर सिर की चोटों के कारण उपचार के दौरान दम तोड़ दिया।
पुलिस के मुताबिक हंस ट्रेवल्स की स्लीपर बस उत्तराखंड के ऋषिकेश से मध्य प्रदेश के इंदौर जा रही थी। एक्सप्रेसवे पर आगे चल रहे ट्रक से टक्कर इतनी जोरदार थी कि बस कुछ ही क्षणों में आग की लपटों से घिर गई और यात्रियों को बाहर निकलने का बहुत कम समय मिला।
प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि हादसे के बाद बस में अफरातफरी मच गई। घना धुआं और तेज लपटें फैलते ही कई यात्रियों ने किसी तरह खिड़कियां तोड़कर या उपलब्ध रास्तों से बाहर निकलकर अपनी जान बचाई, जबकि अन्य लोगों को पुलिस, दमकल कर्मियों और स्थानीय लोगों ने मिलकर सुरक्षित बाहर निकाला।
आग की भयावहता के कारण राहत एवं बचाव कार्य बेहद चुनौतीपूर्ण रहा।
दुर्घटना में घायल 24 से अधिक यात्रियों को दौसा जिला अस्पताल और आसपास के अन्य अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है। चिकित्सकों के अनुसार कई लोगों को गंभीर जलन और फ्रैक्चर की चोटें आई हैं, जबकि कुछ घायलों की हालत अब भी नाजुक बनी हुई है।
सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस, दमकल विभाग, हाईवे पेट्रोलिंग टीम और जिला प्रशासन के अधिकारी मौके पर पहुंच गए। काफी देर तक चले अभियान के बाद आग पर काबू पाया गया। इसके बाद बचाव दल ने पूरी तरह जली बस की तलाशी लेकर यह सुनिश्चित किया कि अंदर कोई यात्री फंसा न रह जाए।
पुलिस ने दुर्घटनाग्रस्त बस और ट्रक को कब्जे में लेकर विस्तृत जांच शुरू कर दी है। शुरुआती जांच में सामने आया है कि बस ने ट्रक को पीछे से टक्कर मारी थी, लेकिन हादसे की वास्तविक वजह जानने के लिए वाहन की गति, चालक की स्थिति, दृश्यता और अन्य संभावित कारणों की जांच की जा रही है।
इस दर्दनाक हादसे ने एक बार फिर देश के हाई-स्पीड एक्सप्रेसवे पर सड़क सुरक्षा, विशेषकर रात के समय लंबी दूरी तय करने वाली स्लीपर बसों की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि जांच पूरी होने के बाद भविष्य में ऐसी घटनाओं की पुनरावृत्ति रोकने के लिए आवश्यक कदमों पर भी विचार किया जाएगा।
