Delhi Doctor Arrested for Allegedly Killing Long-Time Domestic Help in South Delhi’s Kailash Hills
A shocking incident unfolded in South Delhi’s upscale Kailash Hills locality on Tuesday when a 54-year-old dentist was arrested for allegedly murdering his long-time domestic help inside his residence.
The victim, identified as Meena, 45, had reportedly been employed by the family for nearly a decade.
According to Delhi Police, the accused, Dr Manish Gupta, runs a dental clinic near his residence in Mount Kailash.
Investigators said preliminary inquiries revealed that the doctor harboured deep-seated grievances against the domestic worker and allegedly believed that her presence in the house was bringing “negative energy” and adversely affecting his family’s well-being.
During questioning, Dr Gupta allegedly told investigators that he felt increasingly sidelined within his own household and believed that his family members valued Meena more than him.
Police said he also claimed that her presence had a detrimental influence on the future of his son, who is around 19 to 20 years old and reportedly discontinued his studies after completing Class 12.
Officers further revealed that the doctor had been undergoing treatment for depression and had been on antidepressant medication for several years. Investigators are examining whether his mental health condition played any role in the incident.
Police sources said Dr Gupta had earlier asked his wife, Tina Gupta, who is also a BAMS practitioner, to dismiss Meena from her job.
However, she allegedly refused to do so, following which tensions within the household continued to escalate.
According to investigators, the incident occurred when Meena went to the rooftop of the family’s third-floor residence to dry clothes.
Police alleged that Dr Gupta followed her there. In a room adjoining the terrace, he allegedly found a cricket bat and a knife and then attacked the woman, causing fatal injuries.
The incident came to light after a neighbour alerted the police. At around 11.30 am, Amar Colony police station received information about a woman lying motionless on the rooftop of a neighbouring building.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said the police control room received the call at approximately 11.36 am and immediately dispatched a team to the location.
Upon reaching the scene, police found Dr Gupta sitting near the victim’s body. According to investigators, he admitted to attacking Meena.
He was immediately taken into custody and subsequently arrested.
“The accused was found at the scene and has been apprehended. He is being questioned further, and every aspect of the motive is being thoroughly investigated,” DCP Tiwari said.
Police officials added that the doctor’s statements are currently being verified and investigators are examining the sequence of events, his mental condition and the circumstances that allegedly led to the crime. Further investigation into the case is underway.
