Elections announced in Jammu and Kashmir after gap of ten years. Election commission says it was committed to holding free and fair elections amid tight security arrangements.

Jammu and Kashmir is all set to undergo elections. The election commission of India has announced the schedule on tuesday.

The voting will be held in three phases. This will be the first legislative poll in ten years.
In December last year the supreme court directed the central government to conclude the election process in the union territory by September 30, 2024.
The first phase of voting will be conducted on September 18. The second phase on September 25 and the third phae will be seen on October 1.
The Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has said, the commission was committed to ensuring free and fair polls. All efforts would be made that the elections are carried out amid full security. The political parties have also demanded security in view of  divisive activities by a handful of frustrated people and the ongoing militant activities.
Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a long gap of ten years.
The last assembly elections here were held in 2014.
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said, we have been waiting for the elections sine long. Hope it’s coming now.
Earlier the PDP-BJP government fell in 2018 when the latter withdrew support for Mehbooa Mufti.
Within hours after the elections were announced in Jammu and Kashmir congress named Tariq Hameed Karra as President of the party in the state.
Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla have also been appointed as working president’s of Jammu and Kashmir congress committe along with Karra.
