Delhi. Sangam Vihar Murder Case: Builder Found Dead at Home, Wife and Mechanic Arrested Over Alleged ₹5-Lakh Plot

Delhi Police say the killing of 55-year-old builder Munna Lal was made to resemble a robbery; investigators allege his wife Manju conspired with mechanic Chaman and used sleeping pills before the fatal attack.

Police have arrested a builder’s wife and a mechanic in the Sangam Vihar murder case.

Investigators allege the killing was planned over financial disputes and an alleged extramarital relationship.

 What initially appeared to be a violent robbery at a builder’s home in South Delhi has turned into an alleged conspiracy involving his wife and a young mechanic, after police found discrepancies in the account given about the killing.

Munna Lal, 55, was discovered dead inside his Sangam Vihar residence in the early hours of Monday.

His wife, Manju, also known as Nazia, 45, initially told investigators that an intruder had entered the house, attacked her husband and fled after searching the premises.

Police say the investigation subsequently pointed in a different direction.

According to investigators, CCTV footage showed a masked individual entering the residence at around 1.45 am and leaving approximately 90 minutes later.

Examination of the family’s call records then allegedly revealed repeated communication between Manju and a man identified as Chaman, who police say matched the person seen in the footage.

Following forensic examination and technical surveillance, police arrested Manju and Chaman, according to officers.

Police Allegation: Murder Was Carefully Planned

Investigators have described the case as a pre-planned killing rather than an impulsive act.

According to police, Manju allegedly enlisted Chaman, a 20-year-old mechanic, and promised him ₹5 lakh for carrying out the murder.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal said investigators believe ₹20,000 was handed over to Chaman on the night of the crime.

Police allege the sequence began before the actual assault.

Investigators said that on August 9, Chaman allegedly supplied sleeping tablets to Manju.

She is accused of crushing them and mixing them into Munna Lal’s food. After he became unconscious, police allege, the two attacked him.

According to the police account, the victim was beaten, strangled with a rope and subjected to electric shocks in an alleged attempt to ensure that he had died.

The accused then allegedly altered the appearance of the house to support the story of a break-in, investigators said.

Robbery Theory Came Under Scrutiny

The robbery claim reportedly began to unravel when investigators examined the scene more closely.

Police found that the circumstances inside the house did not provide convincing evidence of an actual theft, prompting investigators to examine whether the apparent disorder had been deliberately created.

CCTV footage became an important part of the investigation, according to police.

The recording allegedly showed a masked person entering the property during the night and departing later.

Investigators then examined the communications of members of the household.

The alleged contact between Manju and Chaman reportedly emerged as another significant lead.

Police subsequently combined forensic findings, CCTV evidence and technical surveillance before questioning the suspects, officers said.

Son’s Absence Also Examined

Investigators have also focused on the absence of the couple’s son on the night of the killing.

Police said the young man had left to participate in the recently concluded Kanwar Yatra.

Investigators allege that his absence was not entirely incidental and that sending him away formed part of the broader plan.

The allegation is now being examined as part of the continuing investigation.

Marriage Had Reportedly Become Strained

Police have cited domestic and financial tensions as a possible motive.

Munna Lal and Manju had been married for about 22 years, according to investigators.

Officers said the couple frequently argued, with disputes over money reportedly becoming a recurring source of friction.

Police are also investigating an alleged extramarital relationship involving Manju, which they believe may have contributed to the decision to eliminate her husband.

DCP Mittal said the preliminary investigation points towards financial discord combined with the alleged relationship as possible motives.

He also said the planning involved in the killing indicated that it was not an accidental or spontaneous crime.

Another Man Questioned Over Alleged Shelter

Police have also detained or questioned Chaman’s friend Kishan for allegedly sheltering him.

Investigators are yet to establish whether Kishan was involved in the murder itself or merely helped Chaman after the alleged crime, officers said.

His precise role is therefore still under investigation.

Forensic and Digital Evidence Central to Probe

The case illustrates how investigators can reconstruct an apparently staged crime by combining different forms of evidence.

The CCTV recordings provided police with a timeline of the suspect’s movements.

Call-detail records allegedly established a connection between the victim’s wife and the man seen entering the property. Forensic examination was then used alongside technical surveillance to test the initial version of events.

Police say the investigation remains active and further evidence is being collected.

The allegations against the arrested suspects have yet to be tested in court, and the accused are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence unless proved guilty.

For now, investigators are working to establish the complete sequence of events—from the alleged preparation of the murder to the attempt to disguise it as a robbery—and determine whether anyone else was involved.

What began as a reported home-invasion killing in Sangam Vihar has consequently developed into a murder investigation centred on an alleged conspiracy inside the victim’s own household.

दक्षिण दिल्ली में 55 वर्षीय बिल्डर मुन्ना लाल की मौत को पुलिस ने पहले बताए गए लूटपाट के घटनाक्रम से अलग माना; जांच में पत्नी और एक मैकेनिक के कथित षड्यंत्र का खुलासा होने का दावा।

बिल्डर की हत्या में पत्नी गिरफ्तार

55 वर्षीय बिल्डर मुन्ना लाल सोमवार तड़के अपने घर में मृत पाए गए थे।

उनकी पत्नी मंजू उर्फ नाजिया, 45, ने पुलिस को बताया था कि घर में एक अज्ञात व्यक्ति घुस आया था और उसने उनके पति पर हमला कर दिया।

उनका दावा था कि हमलावर घर में सामान तलाशने के बाद फरार हो गया।

लेकिन पुलिस को घटनास्थल पर लूट की कहानी के समर्थन में पर्याप्त सबूत नहीं मिले। इसके बाद जांच का रुख परिवार के भीतर की संभावित साजिश की ओर गया।

पुलिस के अनुसार, सीसीटीवी रिकॉर्डिंग में एक नकाबपोश व्यक्ति रात करीब 1.45 बजे घर में प्रवेश करता और लगभग 3.15 बजे बाहर निकलता दिखाई दिया।

इसके बाद जांचकर्ताओं ने परिवार के सदस्यों के कॉल रिकॉर्ड खंगाले और मंजू की लगातार एक व्यक्ति से बातचीत सामने आई।

पुलिस ने उस व्यक्ति की पहचान चमन के रूप में की, जिसे कथित तौर पर सीसीटीवी फुटेज में भी देखा गया था।

पुलिस का दावा—हत्या अचानक नहीं, पहले से तय थी

जांच अधिकारियों के मुताबिक हत्या किसी अचानक हुए विवाद का परिणाम नहीं थी, बल्कि इसकी तैयारी पहले से की गई थी।

पुलिस का आरोप है कि मंजू ने 20 वर्षीय मैकेनिक चमन को कथित तौर पर हत्या के लिए तैयार किया और इसके बदले उसे ₹5 लाख देने का वादा किया।

दक्षिण जिले के पुलिस उपायुक्त अनंत मित्तल के अनुसार, वारदात वाली रात चमन को ₹20,000 दिए जाने की बात भी जांच में सामने आई है।

पुलिस के अनुसार, घटना से पहले कथित तौर पर नींद की गोलियों की व्यवस्था की गई थी। जांचकर्ताओं का आरोप है कि 9 अगस्त को चमन ने मंजू को गोलियां दीं, जिन्हें उसने पीसकर मुन्ना लाल के भोजन में मिला दिया।

पुलिस का दावा है कि पति के गहरी नींद में चले जाने के बाद दोनों आरोपियों ने उस पर हमला किया। आरोप है कि मारपीट के बाद रस्सी से गला दबाया गया और बिजली के झटके भी दिए गए।

पुलिस के मुताबिक, इसके बाद घर के भीतर सामान बिखेरकर ऐसा दृश्य तैयार किया गया जिससे मामला चोरी और हत्या जैसा दिखाई दे।

सीसीटीवी और फोन रिकॉर्ड से खुला जांच का नया रास्ता

मामले में डिजिटल साक्ष्य जांच की दिशा बदलने में अहम साबित हुए।

सीसीटीवी फुटेज ने पुलिस को रात में घर के आसपास संदिग्ध गतिविधि का समय निर्धारित करने में मदद की। इसके बाद मोबाइल फोन से जुड़े रिकॉर्ड की जांच में मंजू और चमन के बीच कथित संपर्क का पता चला।

पुलिस ने फॉरेंसिक जांच और तकनीकी निगरानी के आधार पर दोनों से पूछताछ की और बाद में उनकी गिरफ्तारी की।

इस तरह घटनास्थल पर मिले सुरागों, कैमरों की रिकॉर्डिंग और फोन से संबंधित जानकारी को जोड़कर पुलिस ने शुरुआती लूट की कहानी की दोबारा जांच की।

बेटे की गैरमौजूदगी भी जांच के दायरे में

जांचकर्ताओं ने यह भी पता लगाया कि हत्या के समय दंपति का बेटा घर पर मौजूद नहीं था।

पुलिस के अनुसार, वह हाल में संपन्न कांवड़ यात्रा में शामिल होने के लिए बाहर गया हुआ था। जांच एजेंसियां अब इस बात की भी पड़ताल कर रही हैं कि उसकी गैरमौजूदगी महज संयोग थी या कथित योजना का हिस्सा।

यह पहलू जांच की आगे की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है।

22 साल की शादी में तनाव की बात

पुलिस ने प्रारंभिक जांच में घरेलू और आर्थिक विवाद को संभावित कारणों में शामिल किया है।

अधिकारियों के अनुसार, मुन्ना लाल और मंजू की शादी को लगभग 22 वर्ष हो चुके थे और दोनों के बीच पैसों को लेकर अक्सर विवाद होता था।

पुलिस एक कथित विवाहेतर संबंध की दिशा में भी जांच कर रही है। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि आर्थिक मतभेद और इस कथित संबंध का मेल हत्या के पीछे संभावित मकसद की ओर इशारा करता है।

डीसीपी अनंत मित्तल के अनुसार, जिस तरह से कथित तौर पर वारदात की तैयारी की गई और उसके बाद घटनास्थल को बदला गया, उससे प्रथम दृष्टया पूर्व नियोजित हत्या की संभावना सामने आती है।

चमन के दोस्त की भूमिका भी जांची जा रही

पुलिस ने चमन के दोस्त किशन को भी हिरासत में लेकर उसकी भूमिका की जांच शुरू की है। उस पर कथित तौर पर चमन को ठिकाना देने का आरोप है।

हालांकि पुलिस अभी यह निर्धारित नहीं कर पाई है कि किशन केवल कथित तौर पर उसे शरण देने तक सीमित था या उसे हत्या की साजिश की कोई जानकारी भी थी।

उसकी भूमिका को लेकर जांच जारी है।

फॉरेंसिक और तकनीकी जांच पर जोर

इस मामले में पुलिस ने घटनास्थल की जांच के साथ डिजिटल और तकनीकी साक्ष्यों को भी महत्वपूर्ण माना है।

सीसीटीवी से संदिग्ध व्यक्ति की आवाजाही का समय मिला, जबकि कॉल रिकॉर्ड ने आरोपियों के बीच कथित संपर्क की कड़ी सामने रखी। फॉरेंसिक जांच और अन्य तकनीकी साक्ष्यों के जरिए पुलिस अब घटनाक्रम की पूरी तस्वीर तैयार करने में जुटी है।

जांच अभी पूरी नहीं हुई है और पुलिस यह पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रही है कि कथित हत्या की योजना कब बनी, इसमें कौन-कौन लोग शामिल थे और वारदात के बाद सबूत मिटाने के लिए क्या-क्या किया गया।

गौरतलब है कि पुलिस के आरोप अभी जांच का हिस्सा हैं और अदालत में साबित होना बाकी है।

गिरफ्तार आरोपियों को कानून के तहत निष्पक्ष सुनवाई और तब तक निर्दोष माने जाने का अधिकार है जब तक दोष सिद्ध न हो जाए।

फिलहाल, संगम विहार का यह मामला एक कथित लूट-हत्या से आगे बढ़कर ऐसे हत्याकांड की जांच बन चुका है जिसमें पुलिस को शक है कि वारदात की योजना घर के भीतर ही तैयार की गई थी।
