Esha Singh Strikes Gold, Manu Bhaker Bags Bronze as India Shines in Women’s 25m Pistol at ISSF World Cup
India’s pistol shooters once again stamped their authority on the international stage as Esha Singh clinched the gold medal and Olympic star Manu Bhaker secured bronze in the women’s 25m pistol competition at the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in Hangzhou on Monday, adding another memorable chapter to the country’s growing shooting success story.
Displaying remarkable composure under pressure, 21-year-old Esha emerged champion after registering 40 successful hits in the final.
Manu, meanwhile, battled her way through a tense elimination, winning a decisive shoot-off before finishing with 28 hits to claim the bronze medal and ensure a double podium finish for India.
The two Indian shooters had already signalled their intent during qualification. Manu topped the field with an impressive score of 586-20x, while Esha followed closely in second place with 585-18x.
Their dominant performances comfortably earned them places among the eight finalists and set the stage for India’s medal-winning campaign.
Reflecting on her triumph, Esha admitted that carrying the expectations of previous success had made the contest mentally demanding.
She said every major victory increases the pressure to maintain high standards, making each competition a fresh challenge. Overcoming that burden, she added, made the gold medal even more satisfying.
The young shooter also expressed her delight at returning to Hangzhou, recalling the confidence she drew from her outstanding performance at the Asian Games held at the same venue, where she had won four medals.
Familiarity with the shooting range, lighting conditions and the atmosphere inside the finals arena, she said, gave her a valuable psychological edge during the competition.
Manu described her bronze medal as an important milestone rather than merely another podium finish.
She said the result had helped her better understand her current form and identify areas that were working well, providing a clearer roadmap for future competitions.
The double Olympic medallist added that although winning a medal naturally boosts confidence, the experience gained from competing under intense pressure would prove even more valuable as she prepares for major international assignments, including the upcoming World Championships and the Asian Games.
Congratulating both athletes, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised their impressive showing on the global stage.
In a message posted on X, he said the entire nation was proud of Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker for bringing further glory to India with their gold and bronze medal-winning performances in Hangzhou.

हांगझोउ में आयोजित आईएसएसएफ विश्व कप (राइफल, पिस्टल और शॉटगन) में भारतीय निशानेबाजों ने एक बार फिर देश का गौरव बढ़ाया। महिलाओं की 25 मीटर पिस्टल स्पर्धा में 21 वर्षीय ईशा सिंह ने शानदार प्रदर्शन करते हुए स्वर्ण पदक अपने नाम किया, जबकि दो बार की ओलंपिक पदक विजेता मनु भाकर ने कांस्य पदक जीतकर भारत को एक और दोहरी सफलता दिलाई।
फाइनल मुकाबले में ईशा ने असाधारण धैर्य और सटीक निशानेबाजी का प्रदर्शन करते हुए 40 सफल निशाने लगाए और स्वर्ण पदक पर कब्जा जमाया। दूसरी ओर, मनु ने बेहद रोमांचक मुकाबले में शूट-ऑफ जीतकर वापसी की और कुल 28 सफल निशानों के साथ कांस्य पदक अपने नाम कर लिया।
दोनों भारतीय खिलाड़ियों ने क्वालिफिकेशन चरण में ही अपने इरादे साफ कर दिए थे। मनु ने 586-20x के शानदार स्कोर के साथ शीर्ष स्थान हासिल किया, जबकि ईशा 585-18x अंकों के साथ दूसरे स्थान पर रहीं। दोनों ने आसानी से आठ खिलाड़ियों के फाइनल में जगह बनाकर भारत की पदक उम्मीदों को मजबूत किया।
स्वर्ण जीतने के बाद ईशा ने कहा कि पिछली सफलताओं के कारण इस बार मानसिक दबाव पहले से कहीं अधिक था।
उनके अनुसार जैसे-जैसे खिलाड़ी अपने खेल में आगे बढ़ता है, वैसे-वैसे अपेक्षाओं का बोझ भी बढ़ता जाता है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस चुनौती से सफलतापूर्वक बाहर निकलना उनके लिए इस जीत को और भी खास बना देता है।
ईशा ने हांगझोउ लौटने पर अपनी खुशी भी व्यक्त की। उन्होंने कहा कि एशियाई खेलों में इसी रेंज पर चार पदक जीतने की यादें उनके लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत थीं। शूटिंग रेंज, रोशनी और फाइनल हॉल के माहौल से पहले से परिचित होना इस प्रतियोगिता में उनके पक्ष में गया और इससे आत्मविश्वास भी बढ़ा।
मनु भाकर ने अपने कांस्य पदक को भविष्य की बड़ी प्रतियोगिताओं की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि बताया।
उन्होंने कहा कि इस प्रदर्शन से उन्हें यह समझने में मदद मिली कि उनकी तैयारी का कौन-सा हिस्सा सही दिशा में आगे बढ़ रहा है और किन क्षेत्रों पर आगे और काम करने की जरूरत है।
उन्होंने कहा कि पदक जीतने से निश्चित रूप से आत्मविश्वास बढ़ता है, लेकिन उससे भी अधिक महत्वपूर्ण वह अनुभव है जो कड़े मुकाबलों में खेलने से मिलता है।
उनके अनुसार यही अनुभव आगामी विश्व चैंपियनशिप और एशियाई खेलों जैसी बड़ी प्रतियोगिताओं में भारत के लिए बेहतर प्रदर्शन करने में मदद करेगा।
