A tug of war has been going on in Gorakhpur which goes to polls on June 1, in the last phase of elections.

The main contest here is said to be between Ravi Kishan BJP and Kajal Nishad fielded by INDIA alliance.

While Ravi Kishan is now an established and famous film personality Kajal Nishad also comes from the cine world. Both have their followers and admirers. Full steam electioneering had been going on here ever since parties announced names of contestents.

Ravi Kishan and Kajal had been contacting and making appeals to the electorate through individual appearances as well as holding small meetings in the area. Interestingly both are crowd pullers. As a result administration had been on its heels here since long.

During the past three and a half decades Gorakhpur seat had been in BJPs kitty.

Before becoming UP, CM Yogi Aditya Nath represented this seat five times from 1998 to 2017.

Earlier, the seat was represented by Yogis religious guru and mentor Mahant Avaidya Nath and grandfather Guru Mahant Digvijay Nath.

On BJP ticket Ravi Kishan, the sitting MP had defeated the SP candidate Ram Bhual Nishad by over three lakh votes in 2019.

It’s an important seat because Gorakhnath Temple is the centre of ‘Nath Sect’ and CM Aditya Nath represents the same order.
