Gwalior Temple Tragedy: 15 Killed, Over 32 Injured as Truck Ploughs Into Navratri Devotees
GWALIOR: A late-night rush of devotees for Navratri prayers turned into a catastrophe in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district after a speeding truck rammed into a queue outside Sheetla Mata Temple, killing 15 people and leaving more than 32 others injured.
The accident occurred around 1:30 am on Saturday along Chinaur Road, where worshippers had gathered along the roadside to enter the temple.
According to the police, the truck was approaching from the Chinaur side when it reportedly went out of control while negotiating a steep downhill stretch.
The heavy vehicle struck people standing in the queue, smashed into roadside shops and eventually crashed into the temple’s entrance gate.
The scale of the disaster has raised serious concerns over crowd management and the enforcement of restrictions on vehicle movement in the busy pilgrimage area.
Preliminary police assessments suggest that brake failure may have caused the driver to lose control.
Investigators suspect that he attempted to steer the truck towards the left in an effort to avoid an even greater disaster.
Police officials indicated that a straight-ahead movement could have put nearly 700 devotees at risk.
The truck, reportedly bearing a Punjab registration number, had entered an area where vehicle movement was restricted.
Its presence near the temple has prompted questions about how the vehicle was allowed to reach a crowded stretch occupied by devotees.
The tragedy also triggered anger among the victims’ relatives, who accused the police of negligence and created a commotion over the alleged security failures.
Taking action in the aftermath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered the removal of the city’s superintendent of police and suspended eight police personnel in connection with the incident.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other political leaders expressed grief over the loss of lives.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of large religious gatherings, particularly during festivals when thousands of worshippers converge on temples and other pilgrimage sites.
Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the truck entering the restricted zone and determine whether lapses in traffic control or security arrangements contributed to the deadly crash.

ग्वालियर: मध्य प्रदेश के ग्वालियर जिले में नवरात्रि के दौरान शीतला माता मंदिर के बाहर शनिवार देर रात एक दर्दनाक हादसे ने खुशियों और आस्था के माहौल को मातम में बदल दिया।
दर्शन के इंतजार में सड़क किनारे खड़े श्रद्धालुओं के बीच एक तेज रफ्तार ट्रक घुस गया। हादसे में 15 लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि 32 से अधिक लोग घायल बताए गए हैं।
पुलिस के अनुसार, दुर्घटना रात करीब 1:30 बजे चीनौर रोड पर हुई। उस समय मंदिर में दर्शन करने के लिए बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु कतार में खड़े थे। इसी दौरान चीनौर की तरफ से आ रहा ट्रक ढलान वाले रास्ते पर अचानक अनियंत्रित हो गया और लोगों को अपनी चपेट में लेता चला गया।
बेकाबू ट्रक ने सड़क किनारे खड़े श्रद्धालुओं को कुचलने के बाद दुकानों को टक्कर मारी और अंततः मंदिर के प्रवेश द्वार से जा भिड़ा। इस घटना ने मंदिर परिसर के आसपास भीड़ प्रबंधन और यातायात नियंत्रण की व्यवस्था पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
पुलिस की शुरुआती जांच में ट्रक के ब्रेक खराब होने की आशंका जताई गई है। अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, चालक ने वाहन पर नियंत्रण पाने के लिए उसे बाईं ओर मोड़ने की कोशिश की होगी। पुलिस का यह भी कहना है कि यदि ट्रक सीधे आगे बढ़ता, तो करीब 700 श्रद्धालु उसकी चपेट में आ सकते थे।
बताया गया है कि ट्रक पंजाब में पंजीकृत था। मंदिर के आसपास वाहनों के प्रवेश पर प्रतिबंध होने के बावजूद ट्रक के इस क्षेत्र तक पहुंचने से सुरक्षा व्यवस्था की निगरानी पर सवाल उठने लगे हैं। जांच में यह पता लगाने की कोशिश की जाएगी कि प्रतिबंधित क्षेत्र में भारी वाहन को प्रवेश कैसे मिला।
हादसे के बाद मृतकों और घायलों के परिजनों में भारी आक्रोश देखने को मिला। उन्होंने पुलिस पर लापरवाही का आरोप लगाया और सुरक्षा व्यवस्था में कथित चूक को लेकर विरोध जताया।
घटना की गंभीरता को देखते हुए मुख्यमंत्री मोहन यादव ने कार्रवाई करते हुए नगर पुलिस अधीक्षक को पद से हटाने का आदेश दिया। इसके अलावा आठ पुलिसकर्मियों को निलंबित कर दिया गया है।
राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मु, प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी सहित कई नेताओं ने हादसे में हुई जनहानि पर गहरा शोक व्यक्त किया। इस दुर्घटना ने एक बार फिर धार्मिक आयोजनों के दौरान श्रद्धालुओं की सुरक्षा, भीड़ नियंत्रण और प्रतिबंधित क्षेत्रों में वाहनों की आवाजाही पर प्रभावी निगरानी की आवश्यकता को रेखांकित किया है।
अब जांच का प्रमुख विषय यह है कि ट्रक मंदिर के निकट प्रतिबंधित क्षेत्र में कैसे पहुंचा और क्या यातायात प्रबंधन या सुरक्षा व्यवस्था में किसी तरह की चूक ने इस भीषण हादसे की आशंका बढ़ाई।
