India Hold Off Pakistan to Win Asian Games Cricket Gold in Thrilling Final

Japan: India had the gold medal within reach, but Pakistan refused to surrender until the very last ball. In a tense finish at Korogi Sports Park, India overcame a spirited Pakistan chase to win the Asian Games cricket final by 19 runs.

The Indian total of 211 for six had looked imposing, but it became anything but comfortable when Hasan Nawaz launched a spectacular counterattack.

The Pakistan batter finished with 96 from 51 balls and carried his side to the brink of an unlikely victory.

Yet India’s bowlers produced the crucial moments when the match was at its most demanding.

Pakistan required 33 from the final over, and although Nawaz began it with a four and a six, Shivam Dube recovered brilliantly. Nawaz was caught behind off the last delivery, leaving Pakistan stranded at 192/6.

The victory gave India the Asian Games gold after a final in which momentum swung repeatedly between the two sides.

India’s 211 was built at opposite ends of the innings

India’s batting effort did not follow a single pattern. Instead, two contrasting knocks provided the foundation for the winning total.

Abhishek Sharma took responsibility for the early acceleration. The left-hander attacked both pace and spin, using his ability to get deep into his crease to turn anything short into a scoring opportunity.

His assault was particularly severe during the opening phase. He reached his half-century in only 20 deliveries, eventually making 61 from 28 balls. Seven sixes and three fours underlined the extent of his attack.

Pakistan had opportunities to end the innings sooner. Abhishek survived a chance in the deep, and another opportunity behind the wicket before Arafat Minhas finally dismissed him through a stumping.

His departure left India 93/3 and exposed a middle order that found the slow surface considerably less accommodating.

The Indian innings subsequently lost some momentum. Sooryavanshi made 15, Sanju Samson was dismissed for two, while Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer managed 20 and 21 respectively.

That left India needing someone to provide a late injection of runs.

Tilak chooses timing over aggression.

Tilak Varma supplied exactly that, but without trying to replicate Abhishek’s approach.

Instead of attacking every opportunity, Tilak initially concentrated on staying in and preserving wickets. His acceleration came when the field restrictions disappeared, and the death overs began.

The change was dramatic.

Two successive sixes against Sufyan Moqim in the 18th over signalled the start of the final assault. Tilak then targeted Saim Ayub, collecting a four and a six in the next over.

Dube added another burst of power. Three consecutive deliveries against Ayub produced two sixes and a four, giving India the late surge it needed.

Dube’s 27 off 15 balls ended shortly afterwards, but his brief stay had already changed the equation.

Tilak stayed until the end, finishing unbeaten on 51 from just 22 deliveries.

His partnership with Dube yielded 62 runs in 30 balls, transforming India’s prospects after a relatively quiet middle period and taking the team to 211/6.

Pakistan lose early wickets before Nawaz changes the chase

Pakistan’s response initially appeared to be slipping away.

Axar Patel and Washington Sundar used the conditions effectively, making it difficult for Pakistan’s batters to score freely in the early stages.

Axar claimed two wickets, while Washington accounted for Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan. By the time Pakistan reached 39/2, India had established a useful advantage.

Sadaqat became Axar’s first victim after failing to control a sweep. Washington took the resulting catch near the boundary. Axar then forced Usman Khan into a mistimed shot with a full delivery.

Washington’s spell was economical as well as productive, with only 13 runs coming from his two overs.

The situation changed when Pakistan began taking greater risks against India’s other spinners.

Ravi Bishnoi was attacked for 24 runs across his opening two overs, including two sixes from Nawaz. Abhishek Sharma also conceded 10 in his over, while Nawaz survived a dropped catch.

At 76/3 after 10 overs, Pakistan still had a steep asking rate, but the chase had acquired a different character.

Nawaz turns a difficult chase into a contest.

Nawaz became the central figure in Pakistan’s attempt to overturn the match.

He attacked the spinners whenever they offered scoring opportunities and punished deliveries that did not reach the desired length.

His aggression was rewarded with boundaries at regular intervals.

His partnership with Saim Ayub produced 87 runs and gave Pakistan genuine belief.

India eventually separated the pair when Dube dismissed Ayub in the 15th over. But Nawaz remained.

He brought up his fifty in 29 balls and continued to take calculated risks. Even another dropped chance could not slow him down.

By the final stages, Pakistan’s hopes rested almost entirely on Nawaz’s ability to maintain the extraordinary scoring rate.

He did just that, reaching 96, with five fours and seven sixes.

India survive the last-over scare.

With 33 runs required from the final six balls, Pakistan’s task was enormous but not entirely beyond imagination given Nawaz’s form.

The first two scoring shots increased the tension considerably. Nawaz struck Dube for four and then cleared the boundary for six.

India, however, refused to panic.

Dube responded with a yorker before producing two consecutive dot balls. The equation became increasingly unrealistic for Pakistan.

The final delivery settled the contest. Nawaz attempted another attacking stroke but edged the ball behind, ending his remarkable innings and Pakistan’s challenge.

India had defended 211.

The result was shaped by several distinct contributions rather than one overwhelming performance.

Abhishek’s explosive beginning established the platform, Tilak’s calculated finishing restored India’s momentum, Dube contributed valuable runs and then delivered at the most critical stage of the chase, while Axar and Washington gave India early control with the ball.

For Pakistan, Nawaz’s 96 ensured that the final remained alive deep into the closing stages.

But India’s ability to absorb that pressure and produce the decisive wicket with the last ball delivered another Asian Games gold.

दुबे 15 गेंदों में 27 रन बनाकर आउट हुए, लेकिन तब तक वह तिलक के साथ मिलकर 30 गेंदों में 62 रन जोड़ चुके थे।

तिलक ने 22 गेंदों में नाबाद 51 रन बनाए और भारत को 211/6 तक पहुंचा दिया।

पाकिस्तान के लिए शुरुआत रही मुश्किल

लक्ष्य का पीछा करने उतरी पाकिस्तान की टीम को शुरुआती ओवरों में भारतीय स्पिनरों ने खुलकर खेलने का मौका नहीं दिया।

अक्षर पटेल ने दो विकेट निकाले, जबकि वॉशिंगटन सुंदर ने पाकिस्तान के कप्तान साहिबजादा फरहान को आउट किया।

पाकिस्तान को अंतिम ओवर में 33 रन की जरूरत थी। नवाज की मौजूदगी के कारण मुकाबले में रोमांच बरकरार था।

उन्होंने दुबे की गेंद पर चौका लगाया और अगली गेंद पर छक्का जड़ दिया। लेकिन भारतीय ऑलराउंडर ने इसके बाद अपनी रणनीति नहीं बदली।

एक सटीक यॉर्कर और दो डॉट गेंदों ने पाकिस्तान की उम्मीदों को लगभग समाप्त कर दिया। अंतिम गेंद पर नवाज ने बड़ा शॉट खेलने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन गेंद विकेट के पीछे चली गई।

नवाज की पारी वहीं समाप्त हुई और पाकिस्तान का स्कोर 192/6 पर रुक गया।

पाकिस्तान की तरफ से नवाज ने मुकाबले को आखिरी क्षण तक जीवित रखा, लेकिन भारत ने अंतिम गेंद पर निर्णायक विकेट लेकर 19 रन की जीत और एशियाई खेलों का स्वर्ण पदक अपने नाम कर लिया।
