Indian-Origin Man Jailed for 34 Years in UK Over Kidnapping, Rape and Torture of Young Woman
A court in the United Kingdom has sentenced an Indian-origin man to 34 years in prison for abducting, sexually assaulting and brutally torturing a 24-year-old woman in a case that investigators described as one of extreme violence and cruelty.
The convicted man, Gagandeep Singh, 34, received the sentence on Friday after being found guilty of multiple serious offences, including two counts of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.
Under the court’s ruling, Singh will spend 28 years behind bars, followed by a six-year extended licence period. He must serve a minimum of 18 years before becoming eligible to apply for parole.
How the Case Unfolded
During the trial, prosecutors told the court that the victim became suspicious in June 2024 after she was allegedly asked to transport a suitcase containing unidentified items from Thailand to the UK.
When she refused to comply, events took a horrific turn.
Evidence presented in court showed that shortly after arriving at Birmingham Airport, the woman was allegedly seized by masked individuals who forced her into a vehicle and transported her to a property in Hanwell, west London.
There, she was subjected to a prolonged ordeal. The court heard that Singh sexually assaulted her on two occasions and inflicted severe physical abuse over a period exceeding 24 hours.
According to the prosecution, the victim endured repeated acts of violence and humiliation before eventually being released. She was allegedly threatened and warned against speaking about what had happened.
Investigator Describes “Unimaginable” Abuse
Detective Constable Seetara Abdul of the Metropolitan Police’s North West Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, who led the investigation, said the woman suffered an ordeal that was difficult to comprehend.
“The brutality experienced by the victim in this case is unimaginable,” Abdul said.
Police revealed that the woman was left deeply traumatised by the incident and initially found it difficult to disclose the full extent of the abuse she had suffered.
Investigators said threats were allegedly used in an attempt to intimidate and silence her.
However, the support she received from her family, particularly her mother, along with the efforts of detectives handling the case, ultimately helped bring the offender to justice.
Victim Praises Mother’s Determination
In a statement released through the Metropolitan Police, the victim spoke candidly about her fears following the incident.
She said she was initially reluctant to approach law enforcement because she feared it could place both herself and those close to her at further risk.
The woman credited her mother with giving her the courage to seek justice. According to her statement, her mother remained determined to ensure that those responsible were held accountable and refused to abandon the pursuit of the case.
She also revealed that her mother carefully preserved potential evidence, including the clothing she had been wearing and medical records documenting her injuries, believing these materials could help investigators.
Crucial Evidence Led to Arrest
Police said that shortly after being released, the victim confided in her mother about the ordeal. Acting on the information, her mother submitted an initial third-party report to authorities.
The clothing worn by the woman during the alleged kidnapping was later examined by forensic specialists.
Investigators said the evidence obtained through the forensic analysis played a significant role in identifying Singh and ultimately securing his arrest.
Authorities described the conviction as an important outcome for the victim, whose willingness to come forward despite fear and trauma helped ensure accountability in a case marked by severe violence and intimidation.
