Kolkata Police Probe Alleged Extortion Network After Multiple Complaints Against Model-Actor
A dentist’s family initiated the case that led to the actor’s arrest. A sportsperson and other individuals have made allegations against her, while her defence maintains that the extortion case is retaliatory.
KOLKATA: A series of legal disputes involving a Kolkata-based model and television actor has drawn police attention to the circumstances surrounding multiple sexual assault complaints and counter-allegations of extortion.
Investigators are examining whether some complainants were threatened with criminal proceedings to extract money or gifts, allegations the actor’s legal team strongly contests.
The immediate trigger was a complaint by the wife of a dentist who had been accused of rape. She alleged before a court that her husband had been falsely implicated.
The resulting extortion case led to the 31-year-old actor’s arrest on September 18. Following the rejection of her bail plea on October 6, she was placed in judicial custody for 14 days, according to the case details provided.
Police say their investigation has brought several earlier complaints into focus. The woman is reported to have lodged rape and sexual harassment complaints against people from different professional backgrounds, including doctors, film directors and a national-level table tennis player.
Officials have indicated that the number of cases and the circumstances in which they were filed are being examined, rather than treating the allegations as proven.
Two men describe alleged demands.
The dentist has alleged that what began as contact with a former patient later developed into a series of requests for goods and money.
He claimed the woman had offered to help him find more clients, but the prospective customers never arrived.
He further alleged that she began asking him to arrange deliveries and subsequently sought gifts and cash.
According to his account, she invoked political connections and threatened to implicate him in a criminal case if he refused.
He said he sent her food and other products, including protein powder, green tea and cigarettes, and paid Rs 40,000.
The dentist said he tried to report the matter to the police on January 29, after consulting his lawyer, and later submitted his complaint by email.
He claimed that when he returned to the police station on January 31, officers informed him that a rape complaint had been registered against him. He was subsequently arrested, according to his account.
A national-level table tennis player has described a separate dispute.
He said he first came into contact with the woman through Facebook in 2019 and that they communicated intermittently over the following years.
The player denies her allegation that they lived together in a relationship between 2020 and 2025.
He alleged that she repeatedly sought gifts and money for protein powder in early 2025 and became hostile when he declined.
He said police contacted him in May regarding a rape complaint alleging sexual relations on the promise of marriage.
At the time, he was in Europe for a sporting event, he said, and subsequently sought anticipatory bail. He believes the case damaged his sporting career.
Both accounts are allegations made by the individuals concerned. Their veracity will need to be determined through the investigation and legal proceedings.
Defence challenges the extortion case
The actor’s lawyer, Tirthankar Roy, has rejected the allegations against his client.
He argued that the extortion complaint emerged after the dentist had faced proceedings arising from the rape complaint, describing the wife’s action as retaliatory. He called the complaint baseless.
The dentist’s lawyer, Prasenjit Sen, said the case was heard by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Alipore on October 6. He said the actor obtained bail in one extortion case but was remanded to judicial custody in another.
The actor has been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to extortion by threat and criminal conspiracy.
The proceedings followed a petition under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Police yet to establish the full picture
A senior Kolkata Police officer said two extortion complaints had been brought by people who alleged that they were targeted after rape cases were filed against them.
The officer said further investigation was necessary to establish the facts and examine the wider pattern suggested by the complaints.
The original cases filed by the woman reportedly invoke legal provisions relating to rape, outraging a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement and other offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Nandini Bhattacharya of the Men’s Rights Forum said her organisation was offering legal assistance to some of the people who have come forward with allegations.
She welcomed the police investigation, while her comments about the actor’s alleged motives remain her own assessment and have not been independently established.
The case presents two distinct questions for investigators and the courts: whether the original sexual assault allegations are supported by evidence, and whether any subsequent demands for money or gifts amounted to extortion.
Those questions must be assessed individually. The existence of complaints, counter-complaints or arrests does not, by itself, establish guilt.

इसी शिकायत के आधार पर मॉडल-अभिनेत्री के खिलाफ जबरन वसूली का मामला सामने आया। 31 वर्षीय अभिनेत्री को 18 सितंबर को गिरफ्तार किया गया था। उपलब्ध विवरण के मुताबिक, 6 अक्टूबर को जमानत याचिका खारिज होने के बाद उसे 14 दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया।
पुलिस के अनुसार, जांच के दौरान महिला की ओर से अलग-अलग लोगों के खिलाफ दर्ज कराई गई कई दुष्कर्म और यौन उत्पीड़न संबंधी शिकायतें भी जांच के दायरे में आई हैं। इनमें डॉक्टरों, फिल्म निर्देशकों और राष्ट्रीय स्तर के एक टेबल टेनिस खिलाड़ी सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से जुड़े लोगों के नाम बताए गए हैं।
पुलिस यह पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रही है कि इन मामलों की पृष्ठभूमि क्या है और क्या कुछ शिकायतों के साथ धन या उपहार मांगने के आरोपों का कोई संबंध है।
दंत चिकित्सक और खिलाड़ी ने क्या आरोप लगाए?
दंत चिकित्सक का दावा है कि महिला से उनका परिचय मरीज के रूप में हुआ था। बाद में उसने कथित तौर पर उन्हें नए ग्राहक दिलाने में मदद करने की बात कही। उनके अनुसार, इस सिलसिले में मुलाकात तो हुई, लेकिन बताए गए ग्राहक वहां नहीं पहुंचे।
दंत चिकित्सक ने आरोप लगाया कि इसके बाद महिला उनसे डिलीवरी के जरिए सामान मंगवाने लगी और फिर उपहार तथा नकदी की मांग करने लगी।
उनका दावा है कि महिला ने अपने राजनीतिक संपर्कों का हवाला दिया और मांगें पूरी नहीं करने पर आपराधिक मामले में फंसाने की धमकी दी। दंत चिकित्सक के मुताबिक, उन्होंने भोजन, प्रोटीन पाउडर, ग्रीन टी और सिगरेट सहित कई चीजें भेजीं तथा 40 हजार रुपये भी दिए।
उन्होंने बताया कि वकील से सलाह लेने के बाद 29 जनवरी को पुलिस से संपर्क किया और बाद में ईमेल के जरिए शिकायत भेजी। उनका आरोप है कि 31 जनवरी को थाने पहुंचने पर उन्हें पता चला कि महिला ने उनके खिलाफ दुष्कर्म की शिकायत दर्ज कराई है। इसके बाद उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया।
इस मामले से अलग, राष्ट्रीय स्तर के एक टेबल टेनिस खिलाड़ी ने भी महिला पर पैसे और उपहार मांगने का आरोप लगाया है। खिलाड़ी के अनुसार, दोनों की पहचान 2019 में फेसबुक के जरिए हुई थी और बाद के वर्षों में उनके बीच कभी-कभार बातचीत होती रही।
खिलाड़ी ने उस दावे को खारिज किया है कि दोनों 2020 से 2025 के बीच लिव-इन संबंध में थे। उनका आरोप है कि 2025 की शुरुआत में महिला उनसे बार-बार उपहार और प्रोटीन पाउडर के लिए पैसे मांगने लगी। इनकार करने पर संबंधों में तनाव बढ़ गया।
खिलाड़ी के मुताबिक, मई में पुलिस ने उन्हें बताया कि महिला ने शादी का वादा करके यौन संबंध बनाने का आरोप लगाते हुए शिकायत दर्ज कराई है। उस समय वह खेल प्रतियोगिता के लिए यूरोप में थे। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें अग्रिम जमानत लेनी पड़ी और इस विवाद से उनके खेल करियर को नुकसान पहुंचा।
दंत चिकित्सक और खिलाड़ी के ये बयान उनके अपने आरोप हैं। इनकी पुष्टि जांच और न्यायिक प्रक्रिया के दौरान उपलब्ध साक्ष्यों के आधार पर ही हो सकती है।
बचाव पक्ष ने आरोपों को बताया जवाबी कार्रवाई
मॉडल-अभिनेत्री के वकील तीर्थंकर रॉय ने जबरन वसूली के आरोपों को खारिज किया है। उनका कहना है कि दंत चिकित्सक के खिलाफ दुष्कर्म की शिकायत पर कार्रवाई होने के बाद उनकी पत्नी ने जवाबी शिकायत दर्ज कराई।
उन्होंने इसे प्रतिशोध की कार्रवाई बताते हुए अपने मुवक्किल के खिलाफ मामला निराधार करार दिया।
दंत चिकित्सक के वकील प्रसेनजीत सेन के अनुसार, मामले की सुनवाई 6 अक्टूबर को अलीपुर स्थित अतिरिक्त मुख्य न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट की अदालत में हुई थी। उन्होंने बताया कि अभिनेत्री को जबरन वसूली के एक मामले में जमानत मिली, जबकि दूसरे मामले में उसे न्यायिक हिरासत में भेजा गया।
अभिनेत्री के खिलाफ भारतीय न्याय संहिता की उन धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया है, जो धमकी देकर जबरन वसूली और आपराधिक साजिश से संबंधित हैं। कार्रवाई भारतीय नागरिक सुरक्षा संहिता की धारा 175(3) के तहत दायर याचिका के बाद हुई।
शिकायतों की सच्चाई जांच के बाद ही स्पष्ट होगी
कोलकाता पुलिस के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि दो लोगों ने जबरन वसूली की शिकायतें दर्ज कराई हैं। उनका आरोप है कि उनके खिलाफ दुष्कर्म के मामले दर्ज होने के बाद उनसे पैसे वसूलने की कोशिश की गई। अधिकारी के अनुसार, पूरे घटनाक्रम और शिकायतों के बीच संभावित संबंधों को समझने के लिए जांच जारी है।
महिला की ओर से दर्ज कराई गई शिकायतों में भारतीय दंड संहिता और भारतीय न्याय संहिता के तहत दुष्कर्म, महिला की गरिमा भंग करने, आपराधिक धमकी, गलत तरीके से बंधक बनाने और अन्य कथित अपराधों से जुड़े प्रावधान शामिल बताए गए हैं।
मेंस राइट्स फोरम की नंदिनी भट्टाचार्य ने कहा कि उनका संगठन कुछ शिकायतकर्ताओं को कानूनी सहायता दे रहा है। उन्होंने पुलिस जांच का स्वागत किया, हालांकि अभिनेत्री की कथित मंशा को लेकर उनके विचार स्वतंत्र रूप से प्रमाणित तथ्य नहीं हैं।
अब जांच में यह स्पष्ट करना होगा कि मूल यौन अपराध संबंधी शिकायतों के पीछे क्या तथ्य हैं और क्या बाद में कथित तौर पर की गई धन या उपहार की मांग कानूनन जबरन वसूली की श्रेणी में आती है।
दोनों पहलुओं की स्वतंत्र जांच आवश्यक है। केवल शिकायत दर्ज होने या गिरफ्तारी होने से किसी व्यक्ति का दोष सिद्ध नहीं हो जाता।
