BK Singh
In a major blow to the lackadisical attitude and ‘sahbiyat’ which overtakes them once they are on a position of powerplay, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister who is a no nonsence man suspended Sub Divisional Magistrate Ravindra Kumar, Anand Kumar, Police Circle Officer, Sushil Kumar,Tehsildar Ashish Kumar, Police Station Officer Incharge, Brajesh Pandey, Chowki Incharge and Manveer Singh, another Chowki prabhari.
So, this was the first action following the SIT report in the gory Hathras tragedy which makes one so sad.
As it happens always, the SIT has squarely blamed the organizers after talking to eyewitnesses. As per this report the organizers hid facts in permission letter.
But the fact remains whether such permissions are given so cursourily without any follow up action and visit by the authorities concerned to the satsang place or for that matter the spot.
The authorities took as gospel truth whatever the organisers wrote on a piece of paper and the sahibs put their seal on it.
Well if that is the system in which the sahibs are trained it still stinks of colonial rule because the ‘adhikari’ as they are referred to are never at wrong. A couple of months of attachment to some branch and they will all come out clean in white spotless clothes. The death of 121 persons will be washed away.
As a matter of fact in such huge gatherings the entire lot of suspended lot ought to have been present on the spot. If that were so, the tragedy could either have been prevented or lesser human lives would have been lost.
All these officers are given practical knowledge of crowd gathering, management and behaviour. What were their senses doing, in case, they were present at the time of the tragedy that was about to happen.
As for the people they told SIT what they could comprehend and blamed the organisers.
The SDM with enough powers should have summoned all the main persons behind such a congregression and should have talked to them in details about possibility of accidents and what would be done in case an emergency arose.
The SDM, CO, Tahsildar, station officer and the two chowki prabharis were required to meet and discuss things with the organisers. But this never happened
As a matter of fact none of the eyewitnesses who talked to the SIT, had any idea about the role of the official line from SDM down to the Chowki Incharge.
The SIT itself found out that the SDM signed the permission without visiting the spot.
In this case everyone knew that the so called Baba was a great crowd puller. Then why that grand idea of putting signatures without looking into cause and affect and repurcussions. The tragedy followed, 121 lives are gone:
