Massive Midnight Blaze Near Patrika Crossing in Prayagraj: Narayana Restaurant Gutted in Suspected Short Circuit, Major Tragedy Averted
Prayagraj: A tense and frightening scene unfolded late Sunday night in Prayagraj when a massive fire broke out at Narayana Restaurant, located near the busy Patrika Crossing, sending thick plumes of smoke and towering flames into the night sky.
The sudden blaze left local residents alarmed as the three-storey building was rapidly engulfed, creating an atmosphere of panic in the otherwise quiet hours of the night.
According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit.
At around 2:05 am, faint smoke was first noticed emerging from the building that houses the popular restaurant on its upper floors, while a wine shop operates on the ground level.
Within minutes, the smoke turned into fierce flames, illuminating the surrounding area with a disturbing glow and prompting immediate concern among those nearby.
The first alarm was reportedly raised by the security guard stationed at a Kajaria Tiles showroom located opposite the restaurant.
As the guard noticed flames leaping from the structure, he shouted for help, drawing the attention of nearby residents and passersby.
Soon, people gathered on the road, watching anxiously as the fire intensified, the crackling sound of burning furniture and materials adding to the sense of urgency.
The building is owned by Dinesh Chandra Gupta, a resident of Katra, who operates the Narayana Restaurant on the first and second floors.
Eyewitnesses described how the flames spread rapidly, feeding on wooden furniture, plastic fixtures, electrical appliances, and other combustible materials inside the restaurant.
Thick smoke quickly filled the structure, making the blaze appear even more alarming.
Upon receiving information, Fire Officer Rajesh Kumar reached the spot with three fire tenders. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour, working tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.
Their prompt and coordinated response ensured that the situation was brought under control before it could escalate into a much larger disaster.
Officials later confirmed that several LPG cylinders were present inside the restaurant at the time of the incident.
Had the fire reached these cylinders, it could have led to a powerful explosion, potentially causing widespread destruction in the crowded commercial area.
Fortunately, the timely intervention of the fire department averted what could have been a far more catastrophic incident.
Eyewitness Dharamraj, who runs a grocery store adjacent to the restaurant, recalled the terrifying moments. He said he was asleep inside his shop when loud noises startled him awake.
As he stepped outside, he saw the restaurant engulfed in flames, burning intensely before his eyes. Realising the gravity of the situation, he immediately alerted the fire control room, which helped ensure a swift response from emergency services.
Although no casualties were reported, the fire caused extensive property damage. Chairs, tables, refrigerators, plastic fittings, and other equipment inside the restaurant were destroyed.
The financial loss is estimated to be worth several lakhs, leaving the owners grappling with the aftermath of the incident.
Despite the scale of the blaze, a major tragedy was avoided as the fire did not spread to nearby establishments.
The swift action of residents, combined with the prompt response of the fire department, prevented further damage and ensured the safety of people in the vicinity.
The charred remains of the building now stand as a stark reminder of how quickly such incidents can unfold, underscoring the importance of fire safety measures and timely emergency response in densely populated commercial areas.
