Modi Pitches India as a Global Growth Partner, Cites 7.8% Expansion and Democratic Diversity
At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, the Prime Minister highlights economic reforms, financial reserves and the country’s vast multilingual and digital public sphere.
NEW DELHI: India wants to strengthen its place in the world economy through cooperation, economic resilience and opportunities for shared prosperity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, presenting the country as a dependable partner at a time of mounting international uncertainty.
Addressing the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Delhi, Modi argued that India’s development model was not intended to come at the expense of other economies.
Instead, he said, the country sought to advance alongside the international community and contribute to wider prosperity.
The Prime Minister pointed to an economic growth rate of 7.8 per cent for the April-June quarter as evidence of the country’s momentum.
He also cited foreign-exchange reserves of more than $700 billion and reforms in taxation, insolvency procedures and labour legislation as indicators of economic strength.
Against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, unsettled trade relations and competition for strategic technologies and resources, Modi said India could offer a measure of confidence and continuity.
“In this world full of uncertainties, India inspires reliability and stability,” he said.
Reforms and Economic Resilience at the Centre of India’s Pitch
The Prime Minister’s economic message centred on the argument that sustained expansion requires a strong underlying foundation. He presented policy reforms and the country’s financial reserves as important elements supporting India’s growth.
His remarks also sought to distinguish India’s approach from a model in which one country’s gains depend on another’s losses.
By emphasising collaboration, Modi positioned the country as an economy looking to deepen international engagement while pursuing its own development ambitions.
The figures cited at the forum formed part of that broader case for India’s growing economic significance.
However, the durability of this expansion will ultimately depend on how growth translates into employment, investment and broader improvements in living standards.
India’s Democratic Identity Reflected in Its Diversity
Modi also turned to India’s political and social landscape, describing the country as the “mother of democracy”.
He argued that its democratic character could be seen in the coexistence of different languages, a large and varied media sector, and public debate over contentious issues.
To illustrate the scale of this diversity, he cited more than 100 languages, around 80,000 registered newspapers and publications, and over 1,000 satellite television channels.
The Prime Minister said these different channels of communication reflected a society in which multiple viewpoints could find an audience.
His remarks placed particular emphasis on the ability of people to discuss public issues rather than rely on a single perspective.
Digital Platforms Expand the Public Conversation
India’s large online audience was another feature of the country’s public life highlighted by Modi.
He cited more than 500 million YouTube users and over 500 million Instagram users, using the figures to underline the reach of digital communication in the country.
Social media has become a significant space for the circulation of information, commentary and competing opinions. Modi argued that digital access had an important role in enabling people to participate in wider exchanges of ideas.
His address brought together two themes central to the government’s international narrative: India’s ambitions as a fast-growing economy and its identity as a diverse democracy.
The message to the global audience was that the country’s expanding economic influence and its broad public sphere were important parts of its international standing.
