Mumbai-Vadodara Highway Tragedy: Two Killed, One Injured After BMW Convertible Crashes Near Badlapur; Police Probe Viral 251 kmph Video A birthday celebration

A birthday celebration ended in tragedy in the early hours of Sunday when a BMW convertible allegedly travelling at high speed crashed near Badlapur on the Mumbai-Vadodara highway, killing two young people and leaving another seriously injured.

The victims were returning after celebrating the 24th birthday of Yogesh Negi when the accident occurred at around 3 am.

According to police, the luxury convertible rammed into a road divider, veered off the highway and was flung off the road.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle, which was being driven with its roof down, to flip multiple times before crashing onto the ground.

The deceased have been identified as Yogesh Negi, 24, and Rebecca Jacob, 24, a resident of Bandra in Mumbai.

The third occupant, 26-year-old Angad Gill, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Kalyan.

Senior Inspector Kishore Shinde of the Badlapur (West) police station said the three friends had been returning from a party organised to celebrate Negi’s birthday when the driver lost control of the car.

Police are yet to determine who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

Investigators are also examining a video that has gone viral on social media and appears to show a vehicle’s dashboard displaying a speed of 251 kmph. According to police, preliminary inquiries revealed that Yogesh Negi had uploaded the video. Officials are now trying to establish whether the footage was recorded shortly before the fatal crash.

“It is not yet clear who was driving the vehicle. We have found that Negi had uploaded a video showing the speedometer touching 251 kmph. We are verifying whether the clip was recorded moments before the accident,” Inspector Shinde told The Media.

Police said the accident site was located on a stretch of road that is currently under construction.

The section had not yet been opened to the public and lacked street lighting, which may have further complicated the situation.

Investigators are examining all possible factors, including speed, road conditions and visibility, to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The crash has left two families mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones, while another young man continues to recover from serious injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to piece together the final moments before the devastating accident.
