Muzaffarnagar Priest Murder: Father-Son Duo Arrested Over Dispute Following Baby Girl’s Birth
MUZAFFARNAGAR: A dispute reportedly triggered by an unsuccessful prediction about the sex of a newborn has led to the arrest of a father and son for the murder of a 75-year-old priest in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, police said.
The victim, Swami Devanand Bharti, who lived on the premises of a Shiva temple in Bhaura Kalan village, was discovered dead outside his room on October 13. He had sustained a gunshot wound.
Police arrested Hashim, 54, and his son Zeeshan, 22, both residents of the same village and employed as labourers, three days after the killing.
Investigators allege that resentment over the birth of a girl, contrary to the priest’s prediction, was the motive behind the crime.
According to police, Zeeshan and his wife, Arzoo, had sought the priest’s guidance because she had suffered two miscarriages during their two-year marriage and had not conceived successfully.
Bharti reportedly made a prediction that the couple would have a son and also gave Arzoo some medicine.
However, Arzoo delivered a baby girl last month. Police said the outcome allegedly led to friction between the family and the priest, culminating in the fatal attack.
Neighbour allegedly targeted in a planned cover-up
Investigators suspect that the accused attempted to divert suspicion towards a neighbour, Harendra, with whom they reportedly had a longstanding dispute.
Police said photographs of Harendra were found at the crime scene, creating the impression that he might have been involved in the murder.
According to the police account, Zeeshan obtained Harendra’s mobile phone and photographed his profile picture.
He then allegedly arranged for printed copies to be made through an acquaintance who operates a photo studio.
When questioned, Harendra reportedly told investigators that the photograph was around two years old and had been taken in Haridwar.
This prompted the police to investigate where the prints had been produced.
The trail led investigators to the photo studio, whose owner allegedly identified Zeeshan as the person who had requested the prints.
Police said they subsequently questioned Zeeshan, who confessed to the killing, according to the investigation team.
Police recover alleged murder weapon
Muzaffarnagar Circle Officer Narendra Singh Yadav said both suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crime during questioning.
Police also recovered a country-made pistol and a motorcycle allegedly used in the murder, officials said.
According to investigators, the attack took place on the evening of October 13, when the two men arrived at the temple and called out to Bharti.
After the priest opened the door, Hashim allegedly kept him occupied in conversation while Zeeshan fired at him with a country-made pistol.
Police said the arrests followed an investigation into the circumstances of the priest’s death and the photographs recovered from the scene.
The alleged motive and the attempted framing of the neighbour form key parts of the police account of the case.

मुजफ्फरनगर: उत्तर प्रदेश के मुजफ्फरनगर जिले में 75 वर्षीय मंदिर पुजारी की हत्या के मामले में पुलिस ने पिता-पुत्र को गिरफ्तार किया है।
पुलिस के अनुसार, दंपति को बेटे के जन्म की उम्मीद दिलाने वाले पुजारी की भविष्यवाणी गलत साबित होने के बाद कथित तौर पर विवाद बढ़ा, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप उनकी हत्या कर दी गई।
मृतक स्वामी देवानंद भारती भोरा कलां गांव स्थित शिव मंदिर परिसर में रहते थे। 13 अक्टूबर को वह अपने कमरे के बाहर मृत पाए गए थे। उनके शरीर पर गोली लगने का निशान था।
इस मामले में पुलिस ने गांव के ही निवासी हाशिम (54) और उसके बेटे जीशान (22) को घटना के तीन दिन बाद गिरफ्तार किया। दोनों मजदूरी करते हैं। पुलिस का आरोप है कि नवजात बच्ची के जन्म से उपजी नाराजगी ने इस अपराध की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार की।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, जीशान और उसकी पत्नी आरजू की शादी को दो साल हुए थे। इस दौरान आरजू के दो बार गर्भपात होने के कारण दंपति संतान को लेकर परेशान था। इसी सिलसिले में वे मंदिर के पुजारी के पास पहुंचे थे।
बताया गया है कि पुजारी ने दंपति को बेटा होने की बात कही थी और आरजू को कुछ दवाएं भी दी थीं।
हालांकि, करीब एक महीने पहले आरजू ने बेटी को जन्म दिया। पुलिस का कहना है कि इसके बाद परिवार और पुजारी के बीच तनाव पैदा हो गया। जांचकर्ताओं के अनुसार, इसी नाराजगी के चलते पिता-पुत्र ने कथित रूप से पुजारी की हत्या की योजना बनाई।
पड़ोसी को फंसाने की भी कथित साजिश
पुलिस के अनुसार, आरोपियों ने हत्या के संदेह से बचने के लिए एक पड़ोसी हरेंद्र को फंसाने की कोशिश की। दोनों के बीच पहले से विवाद था और आरोप है कि हरेंद्र शराब के नशे में अक्सर उन्हें अपशब्द कहता था।
जांच में सामने आया कि जीशान ने कथित तौर पर हरेंद्र का मोबाइल फोन लेकर उसकी प्रोफाइल तस्वीर खींची। इसके बाद उसने अपने एक परिचित के माध्यम से फोटो स्टूडियो में तस्वीरों के प्रिंट निकलवाए।
पुलिस का दावा है कि इन तस्वीरों को हत्या के घटनास्थल पर इस तरह छोड़ा गया, ताकि जांच की दिशा पड़ोसी की ओर मुड़ जाए।
पूछताछ के दौरान हरेंद्र ने पुलिस को बताया कि तस्वीर लगभग दो साल पुरानी थी और हरिद्वार में खींची गई थी। इसके बाद पुलिस ने यह पता लगाने की कोशिश की कि तस्वीरों के प्रिंट किस दुकान या स्टूडियो में तैयार कराए गए थे।
जांचकर्ताओं के अनुसार, संबंधित फोटो स्टूडियो के संचालक ने बताया कि जीशान ने ही तस्वीरों के प्रिंट तैयार करने के लिए कहा था। इस जानकारी के आधार पर पुलिस ने जीशान से पूछताछ की। पुलिस का कहना है कि पूछताछ में उसने अपराध स्वीकार कर लिया।
देशी पिस्तौल और मोटरसाइकिल बरामद
मुजफ्फरनगर के सर्किल ऑफिसर नरेंद्र सिंह यादव ने बताया कि दोनों आरोपियों ने पूछताछ के दौरान वारदात में शामिल होने की बात स्वीकार की। पुलिस ने मामले में इस्तेमाल की गई कथित देशी पिस्तौल और मोटरसाइकिल भी बरामद की है।
पुलिस की जांच के मुताबिक, 13 अक्टूबर की शाम दोनों आरोपी मंदिर पहुंचे और पुजारी को आवाज देकर बाहर बुलाया। दरवाजा खुलने पर हाशिम उनसे बातचीत करने लगा, जबकि जीशान ने कथित तौर पर देशी पिस्तौल से गोली चला दी। गोली लगने से पुजारी की मौत हो गई।
पुलिस का कहना है कि घटनास्थल से मिली तस्वीरों और अन्य सुरागों के आधार पर जांच आगे बढ़ाई गई, जिसके बाद पिता-पुत्र तक पहुंचा जा सका। हत्या के पीछे कथित रूप से भविष्यवाणी को लेकर पैदा हुई नाराजगी और पड़ोसी को फंसाने की कोशिश इस मामले की जांच के प्रमुख पहलू हैं।
