Four college-going girls were critically wounded while the fifth one succumbed to her injuries after a dumper hit them from behind on the Mirzapur highway in the Meja area of the district. All teenage girls were on cycles and they were returning home from college.

Angered over the tragedy villagers assemble at the accident suite and they set the dumper on fire. Police tried to stop them from setting the vehicle on fire but they wouldn’t listen instead they pushed the police back.
The deceased Ridhi Misra was from Samhan village. Her father had died three years ago in a road mishap. She was a twelth class student in the GIC in her village but attended a coaching in Sirsa. On Tuesday she was returning home around 2 pm. She met four class nine girls, students of Kashi Prasad Singh Inter college in Kathuali. All the girls were paddling home when the dumper came from behind and rode over them. Luckily the four girls survived with injuries but Ridhi succumbed to her injuries. Simran, Ritu, Radha, and Neha were all rushed to the nearby PHC. One of the girls Simran could be taken out after 36 minutes of hard labour as she was entangled under the vehicle in such a way that all efforts to rescue her were failing.
Later angry villagers blocked the highway but relented after knowing that the driver had been arrested. DCP Yamunapar Vivek Chand Yadav said, a case has been lodged and legal action will be taken.
Congress MP from Allahabad Parliamentary constituency Ujjwal Raman Singh has demanded adequate compensation to the family of the deceased girl and free treatment of the injured girls in a big hospital equipped with all facilities.
