Ketan Agarwal Murder Case: Fake Instagram ‘Mahi’ Account Allegedly Used to Lure Victim to Lohagad Fort

Pune Rural Police file 5,053-page chargesheet, saying deleted chats recovered from devices form a key part of the prosecution case

 Police say a fake Instagram account named ‘Mahi’ was used to persuade Ketan Agarwal to visit Lohagad Fort, where he was allegedly killed.

Pune: A digital trail recovered from electronic devices has allegedly revealed how investigators say a fake Instagram identity was used to bring 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal to Lohagad Fort shortly before his death, according to a chargesheet filed by Pune Rural Police.

The police have alleged that Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, communicated with Agarwal through an Instagram account carrying the name “Mahi” and displaying a girl’s photograph.

Investigators say Agarwal believed the account belonged to a friend of Siya.

The alleged online communication became significant after forensic investigators recovered chats that had reportedly been deleted following the killing.

Police have cited the material in the 5,053-page chargesheet filed before the Wadgaon Maval court.

Police allege social media identity was part of the plan

According to the prosecution case, the alleged use of the fictitious Instagram profile came after earlier efforts to take Agarwal to Lohagad Fort.

Police allege that Siya had accompanied Agarwal to the fort on May 31 and again on June 14.

Investigators claim an attempt was made during one of those visits to kill him but did not succeed.

The police version is that the accused subsequently feared Agarwal might refuse another invitation to the location.

The alleged “Mahi” account was then used to establish communication and persuade him to make another trip.

Investigators say the conversations were designed to make Agarwal believe that the person behind the account was a close acquaintance of Siya.

‘Birthday surprise’ allegedly used to arrange June 18 meeting

The police have alleged that the online conversation eventually led Agarwal to agree to visit Lohagad Fort with Siya on June 18, one day before her birthday.

According to the chargesheet, he was told that the visit would be connected with a surprise for Siya.

Agarwal subsequently travelled to the fort with her, where police allege he was pushed from a cliff and killed.

Agarwal lived in the Lodha Belmondo township at Gahunje and was the son of businessman Vishal Agarwal.

Police allege that Siya did not wish to marry Ketan and subsequently joined hands with Chetan and Ritesh Hange, 22, of Beed district, in a conspiracy to kill him.

Deleted chats recovered during forensic examination

Investigators seized mobile phones and other electronic equipment belonging to the accused as part of the probe.

A forensic examination was subsequently carried out to retrieve communications that had allegedly been erased.

Police say the technical analysis recovered conversations connected with the fake Instagram profile even though the account itself had allegedly been deleted after the murder.

The recovered material has now been cited as evidence supporting the allegations of planning and criminal conspiracy.

Investigators have also added relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act alongside charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Three accused arrested

Siya and Chetan were taken into custody on June 23, while Hange was arrested later, on September 5, according to the police.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill confirmed the filing of the chargesheet in the Wadgaon Maval court.

The 5,053-page document sets out the police’s case against the accused, including the alleged digital communication, the circumstances surrounding the June 18 visit to Lohagad Fort and the evidence gathered during the investigation.

पुणे: केतन अग्रवाल हत्याकांड की जांच में पुलिस को एक अहम डिजिटल सुराग मिला है।

पुणे ग्रामीण पुलिस की ओर से अदालत में दाखिल आरोपपत्र के मुताबिक, एक फर्जी इंस्टाग्राम प्रोफाइल के जरिए 25 वर्षीय केतन से संपर्क किया गया और कथित तौर पर उसे लोहगढ़ किले तक आने के लिए तैयार किया गया, जहां उसकी मौत हो गई।

पुलिस के अनुसार, इस अकाउंट का नाम “माही” रखा गया था और उसमें एक लड़की की तस्वीर लगाई गई थी। जांचकर्ताओं का दावा है कि केतन को यह विश्वास था कि वह प्रोफाइल आरोपी सिया गोयल की दोस्त की है।

मामले की जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने आरोपियों के मोबाइल फोन और अन्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों को कब्जे में लिया।

फोरेंसिक जांच में कथित तौर पर वे चैट बरामद हुईं, जिन्हें घटना के बाद मिटा दिया गया था।

लोहगढ़ जाने के पहले भी हुई थी कोशिश

पुलिस की जांच के अनुसार, केतन को लोहगढ़ किले तक ले जाने की यह कथित योजना पहली बार नहीं बनाई गई थी।

जांचकर्ताओं का आरोप है कि सिया पहले 31 मई और फिर 14 जून को केतन के साथ लोहगढ़ गई थी। पुलिस का दावा है कि इन यात्राओं में से एक के दौरान केतन को नुकसान पहुंचाने की कोशिश की गई, लेकिन वह सफल नहीं हुई।

इसके बाद आरोपियों को कथित तौर पर आशंका हुई कि केतन दोबारा उनके कहने पर लोहगढ़ आने के लिए तैयार नहीं होगा। पुलिस के मुताबिक, इसी परिस्थिति में फर्जी “माही” प्रोफाइल के जरिए उससे संपर्क बढ़ाया गया।

जांच एजेंसी का आरोप है कि बातचीत इस तरह की गई कि केतन को यह भरोसा हो जाए कि वह सिया की परिचित लड़की से बातचीत कर रहा है।

जन्मदिन से एक दिन पहले ‘सरप्राइज’ का कथित बहाना

पुलिस के मुताबिक, सोशल मीडिया पर हुई बातचीत के बाद केतन 18 जून को सिया के साथ लोहगढ़ किले जाने के लिए तैयार हो गया।

आरोपपत्र में कहा गया है कि उसे कथित तौर पर सिया के जन्मदिन से एक दिन पहले उसे सरप्राइज देने की बात कही गई थी। इसके बाद केतन उसके साथ लोहगढ़ पहुंचा।

पुलिस का आरोप है कि किले में उसे चट्टान से नीचे धकेल दिया गया, जिससे उसकी मौत हो गई।

केतन पुणे के गहुंजे स्थित लोढ़ा बेलमोंडो टाउनशिप में रहता था और कारोबारी विशाल अग्रवाल का बेटा था।

जांच एजेंसी के मुताबिक, सिया केतन से शादी नहीं करना चाहती थी। पुलिस का आरोप है कि इसके बाद उसने चेतन चौधरी और बीड जिले के रितेश हांगे के साथ मिलकर कथित हत्या की साजिश रची।

डिलीट की गई चैट जांच में अहम सबूत

हत्या की जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने आरोपियों के मोबाइल फोन और दूसरे इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों की जांच की। तकनीकी और फोरेंसिक विशेषज्ञों ने कथित तौर पर हटाई गई डिजिटल बातचीत को दोबारा हासिल करने का प्रयास किया।

पुलिस का कहना है कि फर्जी इंस्टाग्राम अकाउंट को कथित तौर पर हत्या के बाद हटा दिया गया था, लेकिन तकनीकी जांच के दौरान उससे जुड़ी बातचीत बरामद कर ली गई।

जांचकर्ताओं के मुताबिक, बरामद डिजिटल सामग्री हत्या की कथित योजना और आपराधिक साजिश से जुड़े आरोपों के समर्थन में महत्वपूर्ण साक्ष्य है।

इसी आधार पर पुलिस ने हत्या और आपराधिक साजिश से संबंधित भारतीय न्याय संहिता की धाराओं के अलावा सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी अधिनियम की संबंधित धाराएं भी लगाई हैं।

तीन आरोपी गिरफ्तार

पुलिस के अनुसार, सिया गोयल और चेतन चौधरी को 23 जून को गिरफ्तार किया गया था। मामले में तीसरे आरोपी रितेश हांगे की गिरफ्तारी 5 सितंबर को हुई।

आरोपपत्र में पुलिस ने कथित फर्जी सोशल मीडिया पहचान, केतन के साथ हुई डिजिटल बातचीत, लोहगढ़ किले की यात्राओं और 18 जून की घटना से जुड़े साक्ष्यों को अपने मामले का हिस्सा बनाया है।
