Popular Haryanvi Performer Ankit Balyan Killed in Brazen Shamli Shooting
The shooting outside a local fitness centre has prompted a large-scale police search, while political leaders demand answers and investigators work to establish the motive.
Police are tracing the attackers through CCTV footage as political reactions intensify.
Shamli: A fatal shooting outside a fitness centre in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district has claimed the life of Ankit Balyan, a Haryanvi singer and online content creator with a significant following on YouTube.
The attack took place on Wednesday evening in the Kotwali police station jurisdiction. Investigators say Balyan had come out of the gym when two unidentified men allegedly targeted him.
A burst of gunfire followed, and the singer was declared dead at the scene.
Police have yet to disclose what may have led to the attack.
With no suspects publicly identified, the investigation is currently focused on establishing both the attackers’ identities and the circumstances that preceded the shooting.
Shamli Superintendent of Police M P Singh said multiple teams have been assigned to the case.
Surveillance footage from roads and establishments near the crime scene is being scrutinised for possible clues about the movement of the assailants.
The forensic and post-mortem process has also been initiated, with Balyan’s body sent for examination.
Police are expected to use the available evidence to determine the sequence of the attack and the number of people directly involved.
The incident quickly moved beyond a criminal investigation and triggered a political confrontation.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav used the killing to launch a strong attack on the Uttar Pradesh government, alleging a serious deterioration in public safety.
Yadav also called for investigators to examine whether any political dispute could be connected to the murder.
His remarks came amid reports that Balyan may have been considering participation in the forthcoming panchayat elections.
However, there is no official confirmation that Balyan had formally decided to contest an election.
Nor have investigators so far established any link between possible political activity and the attack.
The Samajwadi Party leader claimed that as many as 18 bullets were fired during the incident, although the exact number of rounds fired is yet to be formally confirmed by the police.
He said the shooting had created an atmosphere of concern in the surrounding region.
Yadav further described reports concerning the grief of Balyan’s mother after the killing as deeply disturbing and said there was growing anger among members of the Jat community.
He demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Before his death, Balyan had built a substantial audience through his work in Haryanvi entertainment.
His YouTube channel had crossed 366,000 subscribers, giving him considerable visibility in the region’s expanding digital music scene.
His videos often included other performers and collaborators and helped establish him as a recognisable figure among younger online audiences.
Some productions also featured a stylised display of SUVs and firearms.
Those visual elements have drawn public attention after the killing, but police have not suggested that Balyan’s videos or online work played any role in the crime.
The motive behind the shooting remains undetermined.
As the investigation gathers pace, police are trying to piece together the movements of the victim and the attackers in the period leading up to Wednesday’s shooting.
For now, the central questions remain unanswered: who targeted Ankit Balyan, and why?

उत्तर प्रदेश के शामली में हरियाणवी गायक और यूट्यूब कलाकार अंकित बलियान की गोलीबारी में मौत हो गई। पुलिस ने कई टीमें लगाकर हमलावरों की तलाश शुरू कर दी है और मामले की जांच जारी है।
शामली: उत्तर प्रदेश के शामली जिले में बुधवार की शाम हुई एक सनसनीखेज गोलीबारी ने हरियाणवी मनोरंजन जगत को झकझोर दिया। इस हमले में गायक और यूट्यूब कंटेंट क्रिएटर अंकित बलियान की जान चली गई।
वारदात कोतवाली थाना क्षेत्र में एक जिम के पास हुई। पुलिस अधिकारियों के अनुसार, अंकित बलियान व्यायाम करने के बाद वहां से बाहर आए थे।
इसी दौरान दो अज्ञात लोगों ने उन पर गोलियां चला दीं। फायरिंग के बाद वह मौके पर ही मृत पाया गया।
जांच एजेंसियों के सामने फिलहाल सबसे बड़ा सवाल हत्या का कारण है।
अभी तक किसी आरोपी की पहचान सार्वजनिक नहीं की गई है और न ही पुलिस ने यह बताया है कि हमले के पीछे व्यक्तिगत विवाद, आपराधिक रंजिश या कोई अन्य वजह थी।
शामली के पुलिस अधीक्षक एम पी सिंह के मुताबिक, हमलावरों को पकड़ने के लिए विशेष टीमें गठित की गई हैं।
आसपास के प्रतिष्ठानों और रास्तों पर लगे कैमरों की रिकॉर्डिंग जुटाकर उनकी बारीकी से जांच की जा रही है।
पुलिस को उम्मीद है कि सीसीटीवी से संदिग्धों की पहचान, उनके आने-जाने के मार्ग और वारदात के बाद की गतिविधियों के बारे में महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी मिल सकती है।
मृतक के शव को कानूनी प्रक्रिया के तहत पोस्टमार्टम के लिए भेज दिया गया है।
घटना के बाद राजनीति भी गर्मा गई है। समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव ने हत्या को लेकर राज्य सरकार पर निशाना साधा और उत्तर प्रदेश की कानून-व्यवस्था पर गंभीर सवाल उठाए।
उन्होंने जांच के दौरान राजनीतिक प्रतिद्वंद्विता के पहलू की पड़ताल किए जाने की मांग भी की। यह मांग उन चर्चाओं के बीच आई है जिनमें कहा जा रहा था कि अंकित बलियान आगामी पंचायत चुनावों में अपनी किस्मत आजमा सकते थे।
हालांकि, उनके चुनाव लड़ने के इरादे की आधिकारिक पुष्टि उपलब्ध नहीं है। पुलिस ने भी अब तक ऐसा कोई संकेत नहीं दिया है कि संभावित चुनावी राजनीति का इस हत्या से कोई संबंध था।
अखिलेश यादव ने दावा किया कि हमले के दौरान 18 गोलियां चलाई गईं।
पुलिस की ओर से गोलीबारी की अंतिम संख्या की औपचारिक पुष्टि नहीं हुई है। सपा अध्यक्ष ने कहा कि घटना ने क्षेत्र में असुरक्षा की भावना पैदा की है।
उन्होंने अंकित बलियान की मां के शोकाकुल होने से जुड़ी खबरों को बेहद मार्मिक बताया और कहा कि जाट समुदाय में भी आरोपियों को जल्द पकड़ने की मांग उठ रही है।
अंकित बलियान ने डिजिटल माध्यमों के जरिए बड़ी पहचान बनाई थी। उनके यूट्यूब चैनल से 3.66 लाख से अधिक लोग जुड़े हुए थे और उनके संगीत वीडियो को व्यापक दर्शक वर्ग मिलता था।
वह कई अन्य कलाकारों के साथ मिलकर वीडियो बनाते थे और हरियाणवी संगीत के ऑनलाइन दर्शकों के बीच उनकी अच्छी पहचान थी। उनके कुछ वीडियो में लक्जरी एसयूवी और हथियारों का दृश्यात्मक प्रयोग भी दिखाई देता था।
हत्या के बाद उनके वीडियो की इन विशेषताओं पर चर्चा जरूर हो रही है, लेकिन पुलिस ने अब तक डिजिटल कंटेंट और हमले के बीच किसी प्रकार का संबंध नहीं बताया है।
