Power Crisis in Prayagraj’s Old City: Prolonged Outages Disrupt Sleep, Deepen Drinking Water Woes

Residents across several localities in Prayagraj’s old city spent a restless Saturday night after an extended power outage continued until Sunday morning.

The prolonged disruption not only caused sleepless nights but also severely affected the drinking water supply, leaving people struggling to meet their daily needs.

More than 25 neighbourhoods witnessed frequent tripping and unscheduled electricity cuts throughout the night.

Electricity remained unavailable for nearly seven hours in many areas, while repeated tripping continued during the daytime as well.

Localities fed through the Civil Lines power network, including Posh areas, also experienced supply interruptions from early morning until late at night.

According to residents, repeated breakdowns have now become a routine problem rather than an isolated incident.

People expressed disappointment over the power department’s response, alleging that despite repeated complaints, officials failed to provide any immediate relief.

Consumers claimed that calls made to the control room often went unanswered, and even when calls were received, they were allegedly disconnected after assuring that the fault would be rectified.

Power interruptions were reported from several areas, including Rambagh, Mirapur, Dariyabad, Karelabagh, Kareli and Ramnagar. Residents of Kydganj, Gadighat, Mutthiganj and the Yamuna riverbank areas also remained affected.

In Karelabagh, electricity was restored to a few residents after around four hours, while supply continued to fluctuate in many nearby neighbourhoods.

Officials maintained that electricity was restored wherever possible and that complaints were being resolved on a priority.

Several other localities, including Ghantaghar, Kotwali, Rajapur, Katra, Karanjganj and Salori, also experienced power cuts of nearly two hours during the day.

The disruption extended to Govindpur, Shivkuti, Rasulabad, Azad Nagar, Allahpur, Colonelganj, Katra and Meerapur, causing inconvenience to thousands of residents.

The electricity crisis also triggered a drinking water shortage in the affected localities. Areas dependent on overhead water tanks received little or no supply because pumping stations could not function without electricity.

Although a few residents managed to purchase drinking water, many were left without any alternative due to the disruption in regular water distribution.

Officials stated that nearly 16 power feeders remained out of service during the day. Supply was interrupted for several hours in areas including Teliyarganj, Kydganj Road, Kareli, Atala, Beni Ganj and Ashok Nagar.

The department said teams were working continuously to restore normal electricity supply and resolve technical faults at the earliest.

प्रयागराज के पुराने शहर के कई इलाकों में शनिवार देर रात से लेकर रविवार सुबह तक चली लंबी बिजली कटौती ने लोगों की रातों की नींद छीन ली। लगातार बाधित रही विद्युत आपूर्ति के कारण पेयजल संकट भी गहरा गया और दैनिक जरूरतें पूरी करना लोगों के लिए मुश्किल हो गया। शहर के 25 से अधिक मोहल्लों में पूरी रात ट्रिपिंग और अनियोजित बिजली कटौती का सिलसिला जारी रहा।

अनेक क्षेत्रों में करीब सात घंटे तक बिजली गुल रही, जबकि दिन में भी बार-बार ट्रिपिंग होती रही। सिविल लाइंस विद्युत तंत्र से जुड़े कई इलाकों में सुबह से लेकर देर रात तक आपूर्ति प्रभावित रही। स्थानीय लोगों का कहना है कि बिजली का यह संकट अब कभी-कभार होने वाली समस्या नहीं, बल्कि रोजमर्रा की परेशानी बन चुका है।

बिजली विभाग की कार्यप्रणाली को लेकर उपभोक्ताओं ने नाराजगी जताई। उनका आरोप है कि कई बार शिकायत दर्ज कराने के बावजूद तत्काल समाधान नहीं मिला। लोगों का कहना है कि कंट्रोल रूम में किए गए फोन या तो उठाए नहीं गए या फिर शिकायत दर्ज करने का भरोसा देकर कॉल काट दी गई।

रामबाग, मीरापुर, दरियाबाद, करेलाबाग, करैली और रामनगर समेत कई इलाकों में बिजली आपूर्ति प्रभावित रही। इसके अलावा कीडगंज, गढ़घाट, मुट्ठीगंज और यमुना किनारे के क्षेत्रों के लोगों को भी परेशानी झेलनी पड़ी।

करेलाबाग में कुछ घरों में करीब चार घंटे बाद बिजली बहाल हुई, जबकि आसपास के कई इलाकों में आपूर्ति लगातार बाधित रही। विभागीय अधिकारियों का कहना है कि जहां-जहां संभव था, वहां प्राथमिकता के आधार पर शिकायतों का निस्तारण करते हुए बिजली बहाल की गई।

दिन के समय घंटाघर, कोतवाली, राजापुर, कटरा, करनलगंज और सलोरी सहित कई क्षेत्रों में लगभग दो घंटे तक बिजली बाधित रही। वहीं गोविंदपुर, शिवकुटी, रसूलाबाद, आजाद नगर, अल्लापुर, कर्नलगंज, कटरा और मीरापुर जैसे इलाकों में भी लोगों को बिजली संकट का सामना करना पड़ा।

लंबी बिजली कटौती का सीधा असर पेयजल आपूर्ति पर भी पड़ा। जिन मोहल्लों की जलापूर्ति ओवरहेड टंकियों पर निर्भर है, वहां पंपिंग स्टेशन बंद रहने से पानी नहीं पहुंच सका। कुछ लोगों ने खरीदकर पीने का पानी जुटाया, लेकिन अधिकांश परिवारों को नियमित जलापूर्ति ठप होने के कारण भारी दिक्कतों का सामना करना पड़ा।

बिजली विभाग के अधिकारियों के अनुसार दिन के दौरान लगभग 16 फीडर बंद रहे, जिससे तेलियरगंज, कीडगंज रोड, करैली, अटाला, बेनीगंज और अशोक नगर सहित कई इलाकों में घंटों बिजली नहीं रही। विभाग का कहना है कि तकनीकी खामियों को दूर करने और सामान्य विद्युत आपूर्ति बहाल करने के लिए टीमें लगातार काम कर रही हैं।
