Prayagraj ITI Student Shot Dead Near Canal Bridge; Police Launch Hunt for Accused After Coaching Dispute
A 19-year-old ITI student was shot dead near a canal bridge in Holagarh on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through the area.
Police suspect the murder was linked to an ongoing dispute between the victim and one of his coaching classmates.
The deceased, identified as Himanshu Saroj, was allegedly attacked near the canal bridge in Todi Ka Pura village.
After carrying out the shooting, the main accused reportedly fled from the spot on a motorcycle along with two accomplices.
According to police, a case has been registered against the victim’s classmate and two unidentified persons.
Three police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, who remain absconding.
Himanshu was a resident of Rajapur Chaubara in Jhauni Ka Purwa village. His father, Sanjay Kumar, works in a private company in Pune.
Along with pursuing an ITI course in Nawabganj, Himanshu was also preparing for competitive examinations and attending coaching classes regularly.
Family members said Himanshu frequently visited his maternal relatives in Purabnara village, where he was well known among residents.
On Sunday morning, Himanshu had left home on a motorcycle with two of his friends, identified as Sandeep and Avneesh.
Around 10:30 am, Avneesh reportedly called Himanshu’s mother, Rita, informing her that her son had suffered a gunshot injury and was being taken to the hospital.
However, when the family reached SRN Hospital, doctors declared Himanshu dead.
Senior police officials, including DCP Gangapar Kuldeep Singh Gunawat and ACP Soraon Shyamjeet Singh, visited the crime scene and began an investigation.
During questioning, police learned from Himanshu’s friends that a student named Sahil Yadav, son of Dr Mahendra Yadav from Purabnara village, also studied at the same coaching institute.
Investigators believe tensions had been brewing between Sahil and Himanshu for some time over an unresolved dispute.
According to the preliminary investigation, Sahil allegedly called Himanshu to meet near the canal bridge on Sunday morning.
Police said Sahil arrived there along with two associates. Soon after, the accused allegedly rammed Himanshu’s motorcycle, leading to a confrontation.
Investigators said the argument quickly turned violent. The accused allegedly assaulted Himanshu before one of them fired a shot at his chest. After the attack, all three fled from the scene.
Based on a complaint filed by Himanshu’s mother, Holagarh police registered an FIR against Sahil Yadav and two unidentified persons in connection with the murder.
Police officials said the exact reason behind the coaching-related dispute is still being investigated.
“We have received information that the murder took place following a dispute linked to coaching classes.
A case has been registered against the absconding accused, and three police teams have been formed to arrest them,” DCP Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said.
The killing has left the victim’s family devastated, while the incident has also raised concerns among residents over increasing violence involving young students and personal disputes turning deadly.
