In a shocking case of alleged honour killing, a father was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district after he allegedly murdered his daughter inside a police station premises.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the safety of women even when seeking protection from authorities.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Rajaram Jogi, arrived at the Banda police station with his daughter.
During an argument, he allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon and later inflicted multiple fatal blows. The young woman succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Police officials said the accused had reportedly been threatening his daughter for some time over her personal relationship.
Despite earlier tensions within the family, the matter escalated dramatically inside the police station, where the fatal attack allegedly took place.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Shivani. Investigators said she had been in a relationship with a young man named Lalit Verma, a resident of the same area.
The couple had reportedly left home together on May 18 and were living separately.
Following the incident, Shivani’s mother lodged a formal complaint against her husband, accusing him of murdering their daughter.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and took the accused into custody.
Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police, reached the police station after receiving information about the incident.
Authorities have ordered a detailed inquiry, while allegations of negligence against some police personnel are also being examined.
Police said preliminary findings suggest that the family strongly opposed Shivani’s relationship.

Brother Allegedly Kills Sister in Sambhal Over Love Affair
In another disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh, a young woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother in Sambhal district following a dispute linked to her relationship with a man.
According to police, the incident took place in a village under the Gunnaur Kotwali area.
The accused allegedly became enraged over his sister’s relationship and opened fire on her during an argument at their home.
The victim, identified as Muskan, had reportedly been living with her family after the death of her father.
Family members said financial difficulties had affected the household, and disagreements over her personal relationship had intensified in recent months.
Investigators said Muskan and a young man named Dilip had known each other for several years and were reportedly in a relationship.
The two had allegedly solemnised their marriage at a temple and later completed legal formalities at a registrar’s office.
Police said tensions escalated after the family learned about the relationship. During an altercation, the accused allegedly fired at Muskan, causing fatal injuries. She died at the scene before medical assistance could arrive.
Following the incident, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities have taken the accused into custody and are examining all circumstances surrounding the crime.
Both incidents have once again highlighted the continuing problem of honour-based violence and family opposition to personal relationships, prompting renewed calls for stronger protection mechanisms for young adults exercising their right to choose their partners.
