SP MLA Missing, Police Intensify Hunt as Pressure Mounts in Prayagraj Double Death Case
Prayagraj: Fresh developments have emerged in the investigation into the deaths of two brothers in Prayagraj, with Samajwadi Party MLA Hakim Lal Bind reportedly absconding after being named in the case.
Investigators have also found that several other accused have gone into hiding. As the search operation gathers pace, police have detained some relatives and close associates of the suspects for questioning while carrying out raids at multiple locations.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family continues to live in fear, and security personnel have been deployed outside their residence.
The case revolves around the deaths of two brothers from Banpurwa Saraypitha village in the Handia area.
Sushil Kumar was found hanging inside his house on Friday morning, nearly three weeks after his younger brother Santosh’s body was discovered hanging from a tree outside the village on June 11.
Following Santosh’s death, his wife Gauri, her brother Lalla, and several others were booked on charges including murder.
After Sushil’s death, his younger brother Sunil and mother Lalita filed another complaint naming MLA Hakim Lal Bind, Gauri, singer Sumitra Nandini, her brother, and Gauri’s brother-in-law among the accused.
The complainants have alleged that the two brothers were eliminated as part of a conspiracy linked to a disputed piece of land.
Acting on the first FIR, police arrested Gauri and her brother Lalla and sent them to jail.
However, after the second FIR was registered, the remaining accused reportedly disappeared, prompting an intensified manhunt by the police.
Sources familiar with the investigation said search teams are conducting raids in Varanasi, Lucknow and several other locations to trace the MLA and other absconding suspects.
Police have also questioned relatives and associates believed to have information about their whereabouts.
Officials say the search operation is continuing and arrests are expected soon.
Handia Inspector Anup Saroj confirmed that every possible effort is being made to locate the accused.
He said multiple police teams are working on different leads and expressed confidence that the absconding suspects would be taken into custody shortly.
The investigation has also revived a land dispute that allegedly lay at the centre of the conflict. According to family members, Santosh and Sushil had planned to sell the disputed property.
They claim ownership documents carried the name of Lalita, the brothers’ mother.
Around two months ago, a property dealer had visited the family to inspect the land, and discussions over a possible sale had taken place, though no agreement was finalised.
Family members further alleged that after the prospective buyer inspected the property, they began receiving repeated threats from influential individuals who did not want the land to be sold.
They also claimed that several property dealers had previously attempted to view the land but were allegedly driven away by people associated with the MLA.
According to the relatives, the intimidation escalated after another buyer showed interest in purchasing the property.
A pall of grief continues to hang over the victims’ home. Since the deaths of Santosh and Sushil, the entire family has remained traumatised.
Relatives and neighbours have been visiting to offer condolences, but the family members are reportedly too frightened to step outside.
With several accused still at large, they fear further harm and remain anxious about their safety.

प्रयागराज के चर्चित दो सगे भाइयों की मौत के मामले में जांच लगातार नए मोड़ ले रही है। मुकदमे में नाम आने के बाद समाजवादी पार्टी के विधायक हाकिम लाल बिंद के कथित रूप से भूमिगत होने की जानकारी सामने आई है।
पुलिस का कहना है कि अन्य नामजद आरोपी भी अपने ठिकाने छोड़ चुके हैं। उनकी तलाश में लगातार छापेमारी की जा रही है और कई करीबी रिश्तेदारों व परिचितों को पूछताछ के लिए हिरासत में लिया गया है। दूसरी ओर, पीड़ित परिवार अब भी दहशत के माहौल में जी रहा है और उसके घर पर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था बढ़ा दी गई है।
मामला हैंड़िया क्षेत्र के बनपुरवा सरायपीठा गांव का है, जहां सगे भाई सुशील कुमार का शव शुक्रवार सुबह उनके घर में फंदे से लटका मिला। इससे 22 दिन पहले 11 जून को उनके छोटे भाई संतोष का शव गांव के बाहर एक पेड़ से लटका हुआ मिला था।
संतोष की मौत के मामले में उनकी पत्नी गौरी, साले लल्ला समेत कई लोगों के खिलाफ हत्या सहित अन्य धाराओं में मुकदमा दर्ज किया गया था।
बाद में सुशील की मौत के बाद छोटे भाई सुनील और मां ललिता की तहरीर पर विधायक हाकिम लाल बिंद, गौरी, गायिका सुमित्रा नंदिनी, उनके भाई और गौरी के जीजा समेत कई लोगों के खिलाफ नया मुकदमा दर्ज किया गया।
परिजनों का आरोप है कि दोनों भाइयों की हत्या जमीन विवाद से जुड़ी एक सुनियोजित साजिश का हिस्सा थी। पहले दर्ज मुकदमे में पुलिस ने गौरी और उसके भाई लल्ला को गिरफ्तार कर जेल भेज दिया था। वहीं दूसरी एफआईआर दर्ज होने के बाद अन्य आरोपी फरार हो गए, जिसके बाद पुलिस ने उनकी तलाश तेज कर दी है।
जांच से जुड़े सूत्रों के अनुसार विधायक और अन्य आरोपियों की तलाश में पुलिस की टीमें वाराणसी, लखनऊ तथा अन्य संभावित ठिकानों पर लगातार दबिश दे रही हैं।
पुलिस ने आरोपियों के कुछ करीबी रिश्तेदारों और परिचितों से भी पूछताछ की है ताकि उनके छिपने के स्थानों का पता लगाया जा सके। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि जल्द ही फरार आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया जाएगा।
हैंडिया के इंस्पेक्टर अनुप सरोज ने बताया कि आरोपियों की गिरफ्तारी के लिए हर संभव प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि पुलिस की कई टीमें अलग-अलग सुरागों पर काम कर रही हैं और उम्मीद है कि जल्द ही सभी वांछित आरोपियों को पकड़ लिया जाएगा।
जांच के दौरान जमीन विवाद का पहलू भी प्रमुखता से सामने आया है। परिजनों के मुताबिक संतोष और सुशील जिस जमीन को बेचना चाहते थे, उसके दस्तावेजों में उनकी मां ललिता का नाम दर्ज है।
करीब दो महीने पहले एक प्रॉपर्टी कारोबारी जमीन देखने आया था और खरीद-फरोख्त को लेकर बातचीत भी हुई थी, लेकिन कोई अंतिम समझौता नहीं हो सका।
रिश्तेदारों का आरोप है कि जमीन देखने के बाद संभावित खरीदारों को लगातार धमकियां मिलने लगीं ताकि सौदा न हो सके।
उनका यह भी कहना है कि इससे पहले भी कई प्रॉपर्टी कारोबारियों को जमीन देखने से रोका गया था और विधायक के करीबी लोगों ने उन्हें वहां से भगा दिया था। परिवार का दावा है कि दूसरे पक्ष की ओर से जमीन बिकने से रोकने के लिए लगातार दबाव बनाया जा रहा था।
दोनों भाइयों की मौत के बाद परिवार पूरी तरह सदमे में है। घर का माहौल अभी भी शोक और भय से घिरा हुआ है।
रिश्तेदार लगातार सांत्वना देने पहुंच रहे हैं, लेकिन परिवार के सदस्य डर के कारण घर से बाहर निकलने से भी बच रहे हैं। कई आरोपी अब भी गिरफ्त से बाहर हैं, जिससे परिवार की चिंता और असुरक्षा की भावना लगातार बनी हुई है।
