Ram Temple Trust Set to Discuss Champat Rai’s Successor; VHP Leaders Among Key Contenders
Amid weeks of speculation surrounding the alleged donation theft controversy linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the focus has now shifted to an important leadership decision.
The Trust is expected to deliberate on possible successors to General Secretary Champat Rai during its meeting in Ayodhya.
Among the names being discussed are senior VHP functionary Bajrang Lal Bagda and trustee Krishna Mohan, while another senior member, Neeraj Donesariya, is also being considered for a trustee’s position.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 pm on Monday at the Pilgrim Facilitation Centre inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex.
Although the official agenda has not been made public, discussions are expected to revolve around the Trust’s future organisational structure following the recent controversy.
The alleged donation theft case has intensified the need for administrative clarity within the Trust.
According to sources, the controversy has already led to discussions over accepting the resignations of Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra.
If those resignations are formally approved, the Trust may simultaneously initiate the process of appointing new office-bearers to ensure continuity in its functioning.
Among the leading names in the race, Bajrang Lal Bagda is viewed as a strong contender.
He arrived in Ayodhya on Sunday evening ahead of the meeting. Krishna Mohan, another trustee associated with the Trust, is also being considered for a larger organisational role if vacancies arise.
The donation theft controversy surfaced publicly on June 5. Since then, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been probing the matter.
Eight people have been arrested so far, while one accused has already been released. Alongside the police investigation, the SIT continues to examine various aspects of the case.
Several prominent religious leaders and trustees are expected to participate in the crucial meeting. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati, Yugpurush Paramhans, trustee Krishna Mohan, and other members have already reached Ayodhya.
Treasurer Govind Dev Giri, Nripendra Mishra, Swami Vishwaprasannatirth, and several senior members are likely to arrive on Monday morning, while a few others may join later in the day.
Senior advocate and Trust adviser K. Parasaran will also attend the deliberations.
Besides him, Union Government Secretary I.S. Lohade, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Sin,gh and Ayodhya District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi are expected to remain present.
The proceedings will be chaired by Trust President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das.
The Trust is also likely to review the SIT’s interim findings, discuss the audit report for the financial year 2025–26 and take up the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer.
These issues are expected to feature prominently in the day’s agenda along with organisational restructuring.
Bajrang Lal Bagda is widely known for his long association with the Vishva Hindu Parishad. He previously served as Chairman of NALCO and is regarded as an experienced administrator.
His background in public administration and organisational management is believed to be one of the reasons his name is being seriously considered for a key role within the Trust.
Krishna Mohan is also emerging as an influential candidate. A retired Indian Forest Service officer, he currently serves as the RSS’s former Uttar Pradesh North regional Sangathan Minister.
Sources indicate that Neeraj Donesariya may also be inducted into the Trust, while another vacant position created after the demise of trustee Bimalendra Mohan Pratap Mishra could also be filled during the meeting.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi inspected the venue on Sunday evening in view of the high-profile meeting.
He reviewed security arrangements and other logistical preparations. Officials also assessed seating arrangements and overall administrative readiness to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.

अयोध्या स्थित श्रीराम जन्मभूमि तीर्थ क्षेत्र ट्रस्ट में कथित चंदा चोरी विवाद के बाद अब संगठनात्मक बदलावों की चर्चा तेज हो गई है। सोमवार को होने वाली ट्रस्ट की महत्वपूर्ण बैठक में महासचिव चंपत राय के संभावित उत्तराधिकारी के नाम पर विचार किया जा सकता है।
विश्व हिंदू परिषद के वरिष्ठ पदाधिकारी बजरंगलाल बागड़ा और ट्रस्टी कृष्ण मोहन प्रमुख दावेदारों के रूप में चर्चा में हैं, जबकि नीरज दोनेसरिया को भी ट्रस्टी बनाए जाने की संभावना जताई जा रही है।
महत्वपूर्ण बैठक सोमवार दोपहर तीन बजे राम जन्मभूमि परिसर स्थित यात्री सुविधा केंद्र में आयोजित होगी। बैठक का आधिकारिक एजेंडा सार्वजनिक नहीं किया गया है, लेकिन माना जा रहा है कि हालिया विवाद के बाद ट्रस्ट की प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था और भविष्य की रणनीति पर विस्तार से चर्चा होगी।
कथित चंदा चोरी प्रकरण के बाद संगठनात्मक ढांचे को लेकर कई अहम निर्णय लिए जा सकते हैं।
सूत्रों के अनुसार, चंपत राय और ट्रस्टी अनिल मिश्रा के इस्तीफों को स्वीकार किए जाने की संभावना पर भी विचार हो सकता है। यदि ऐसा होता है तो ट्रस्ट में खाली होने वाले प्रमुख पदों पर नई नियुक्तियों की प्रक्रिया भी साथ-साथ शुरू की जा सकती है, ताकि प्रशासनिक कार्यों में निरंतरता बनी रहे।
उत्तराधिकारी की दौड़ में बजरंगलाल बागड़ा का नाम सबसे मजबूत माना जा रहा है। वह रविवार शाम अयोध्या पहुंच चुके हैं। वहीं ट्रस्ट से जुड़े कृष्ण मोहन को भी महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी मिलने की चर्चा है और आवश्यकता पड़ने पर उन्हें बड़ी भूमिका सौंपी जा सकती है।
कथित चंदा चोरी का मामला पहली बार 5 जून को सामने आया था। इसके बाद गठित विशेष जांच दल (एसआईटी) लगातार मामले की जांच कर रहा है। अब तक आठ आरोपियों की गिरफ्तारी हो चुकी है, जबकि एक आरोपी को रिहा किया जा चुका है। पुलिस के साथ-साथ एसआईटी भी विभिन्न पहलुओं की गहन पड़ताल कर रही है।
बैठक में देश के कई प्रमुख संतों और ट्रस्ट सदस्यों के शामिल होने की संभावना है। जगद्गुरु शंकराचार्य स्वामी वासुदेवानंद सरस्वती, युगपुरुष परमहंस, ट्रस्टी कृष्ण मोहन सहित कई सदस्य अयोध्या पहुंच चुके हैं। कोषाध्यक्ष गोविंद देव गिरि, नृपेंद्र मिश्रा, स्वामी विश्वप्रसन्नतीर्थ तथा अन्य वरिष्ठ सदस्य सोमवार सुबह पहुंचने की उम्मीद है, जबकि कुछ सदस्य देर से भी शामिल हो सकते हैं।
ट्रस्ट के विधिक सलाहकार एवं वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता के. परासरण भी बैठक में मौजूद रहेंगे। इसके अलावा केंद्र सरकार के सचिव आई.एस. लोहाड़े, उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्य सचिव मनोज कुमार सिंह तथा अयोध्या के जिलाधिकारी शशांक त्रिपाठी भी बैठक में भाग लेंगे। बैठक की अध्यक्षता ट्रस्ट अध्यक्ष महंत नृत्य गोपाल दास करेंगे।
बैठक के दौरान एसआईटी की अंतरिम जांच रिपोर्ट, वित्तीय वर्ष 2025-26 की ऑडिट रिपोर्ट तथा मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी (सीईओ) की नियुक्ति जैसे महत्वपूर्ण विषयों पर भी विचार होने की संभावना है। संगठनात्मक पुनर्गठन से जुड़े कई अन्य प्रस्ताव भी एजेंडे में शामिल रह सकते हैं।
बजरंगलाल बागड़ा लंबे समय से विश्व हिंदू परिषद से जुड़े रहे हैं और पहले नालको के अध्यक्ष भी रह चुके हैं। प्रशासनिक अनुभव और संगठनात्मक क्षमता के कारण उन्हें ट्रस्ट में महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी के लिए उपयुक्त माना जा रहा है।
सेवानिवृत्त भारतीय वन सेवा अधिकारी कृष्ण मोहन का नाम भी प्रमुख दावेदारों में शामिल है। वे राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के उत्तर प्रदेश उत्तर क्षेत्र के पूर्व संगठन मंत्री रह चुके हैं। वहीं, नीरज दोनेसरिया को ट्रस्ट में शामिल किए जाने की संभावना भी जताई जा रही है। इसके अलावा दिवंगत ट्रस्टी विमलेंद्र मोहन प्रताप मिश्र के निधन से रिक्त हुए स्थान पर भी नई नियुक्ति हो सकती है।
बैठक की तैयारियों को लेकर रविवार शाम जिलाधिकारी शशांक त्रिपाठी ने आयोजन स्थल का निरीक्षण किया। उन्होंने सुरक्षा व्यवस्था, बैठने की व्यवस्था और अन्य प्रशासनिक तैयारियों की समीक्षा की ताकि बैठक शांतिपूर्ण और व्यवस्थित ढंग से संपन्न हो सके।
