Teenager Drowns in Ganga During Idol Immersion in Prayagraj

Prayagraj: A tragic incident occurred in the Naini police station area of Prayagraj when a teenage boy drowned in the Ganga River during a religious idol immersion ceremony.

Despite immediate efforts by local divers to rescue him, the boy could not be saved. His body was later recovered from the river and sent for post-mortem examination.

The deceased has been identified as Vikrant Chaurasia (15), a resident of the Mehdauri locality in Naini.

According to family members, Vikrant had gone to the riverbank with others to participate in the immersion of a religious idol.

Police said that during the immersion process, the teenager accidentally ventured into deeper waters and was swept away by the strong current.

People present at the site quickly raised an alarm, prompting local divers to launch a rescue operation.

Despite their efforts, Vikrant could not be located in time. After an extensive search, divers eventually recovered his body from the river.

The police were informed immediately and reached the spot to take charge of the situation.

Following the recovery, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to complete the necessary legal formalities. The incident has left the family and residents in deep shock and grief.

Authorities have urged people participating in religious immersions and other river-related activities to exercise caution, particularly during periods of strong water currents, to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
