Monsoon Woes Persist in Prayagraj: Choked Drains and Water Supply Issues Leave Residents Frustrated

Residents across several wards in Prayagraj continue to grapple with overflowing drains and inadequate civic infrastructure, turning routine monsoon showers into a source of recurring hardship.

Although the rainy season has already arrived, many drainage channels remain uncleared, raising concerns about flooding and sanitation in densely populated neighbourhoods.

Locals say that desilting and cleaning work on drains has either been delayed or carried out inadequately. As a result, drains clogged with garbage and silt are struggling to carry rainwater efficiently.

In many places, damaged drain slabs and broken sections have further worsened the situation, creating safety hazards and disrupting daily life.

With every spell of rain, waterlogging becomes a major problem. Overflowing drains not only inconvenience residents but also increase the risk of unhygienic conditions and mosquito-borne diseases.

People living in affected areas complain that the situation repeats itself year after year despite repeated assurances from civic authorities.

Residents have also highlighted shortcomings in basic utility services. According to them, sewerage and drinking water pipelines have yet to reach several settlements.

As a result, a large number of families remain dependent on hand pumps and borewells for their daily water needs.

Many locals expressed disappointment over what they describe as a lack of prompt action from officials.

They claim that complaints are regularly submitted to the authorities, but the issues often remain unresolved for long periods.

Residents believe that stronger monitoring and quicker responses are needed to prevent civic problems from escalating during the monsoon.

Citizens have urged the municipal administration to accelerate drain-cleaning operations, repair damaged infrastructure and ensure the availability of essential services.

They argue that maintaining proper drainage systems and improving water supply facilities are fundamental responsibilities of the municipal corporation and are crucial for public health and safety.
