Trump Holds Separate Talks With Putin and Zelensky, Pushes Fresh Bid to End Ukraine War Ahead of NATO Summit
US President Donald Trump held separate telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, renewing his efforts to help bring an end to the prolonged war in Ukraine.
The high-level discussions took place just days before the upcoming NATO Summit in Turkey, where the conflict is expected to dominate the agenda.
During both calls, the leaders reviewed the military situation, ongoing diplomatic initiatives, and the prospects for reviving peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
According to the Kremlin, Trump’s conversation with Putin lasted nearly 90 minutes, during which the US President reiterated his willingness to assist in finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin also congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of US Independence, and the two leaders discussed the Ukraine issue in the context of Trump’s participation in the NATO summit scheduled for July 7-8 in Turkey.
During the call, Putin reportedly briefed Trump on the latest developments on the battlefield and maintained that Russia continues to favour a political and diplomatic settlement, provided its core national interests are taken into account.
The Kremlin said both leaders exchanged views on possible ways to overcome the crisis through dialogue rather than prolonged military confrontation.
Following his discussion with Putin, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian leader congratulated Trump on America’s historic anniversary and discussed the current situation along the frontlines as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Describing the conversation as “very good” in a message on Telegram, Zelensky expressed optimism that the war could eventually be brought to an end with sustained American engagement.
He also confirmed that both leaders agreed to continue their discussions during the forthcoming NATO summit.
The Kremlin further stated that Trump informed Putin that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would continue working to facilitate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
According to Ushakov, the two envoys remain prepared to travel to Moscow whenever required as part of Washington’s ongoing diplomatic initiative.
The renewed diplomatic outreach comes at a time when US-led peace efforts have lost momentum, with Washington’s attention increasingly shifting towards the conflict involving Iran.
Ushakov also said Putin expressed hope that American diplomatic engagement in the Middle East would help produce mutually acceptable long-term solutions.
During the conversation, the Russian President also renewed his invitation for Trump to visit Moscow.
The phone calls took place just ahead of the NATO leaders’ summit beginning this week in Turkey.
Ukraine is expected to remain one of the central issues after Russia recently carried out one of the deadliest aerial attacks of the year on Kyiv, while launching strikes on several other Ukrainian regions.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has stepped up drone and missile attacks on Russian territory, targeting strategic infrastructure, including oil refineries, causing operational disruptions in several areas.
Trump is expected to attend the summit while continuing to urge European allies to shoulder a larger share of the continent’s defence responsibilities.
He has repeatedly argued that NATO members should increase their defence spending and reduce dependence on the United States for Europe’s long-term security.

अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन और यूक्रेन के राष्ट्रपति वोलोदिमिर जेलेंस्की से अलग-अलग फोन पर बातचीत कर यूक्रेन युद्ध को समाप्त कराने के लिए एक बार फिर कूटनीतिक पहल तेज कर दी है। तुर्की में होने वाले आगामी नाटो शिखर सम्मेलन से ठीक पहले हुई इन महत्वपूर्ण वार्ताओं में युद्ध के ताज़ा हालात, शांति वार्ता की संभावनाओं और मॉस्को तथा कीव के बीच संवाद को दोबारा शुरू करने में अमेरिका की संभावित भूमिका पर विस्तार से चर्चा हुई।
क्रेमलिन के अनुसार, ट्रंप और पुतिन के बीच करीब 90 मिनट तक बातचीत हुई, जिसमें अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ने एक बार फिर युद्ध समाप्त कराने में सहयोग देने की अपनी इच्छा दोहराई।
क्रेमलिन के विदेश नीति सलाहकार यूरी उशाकोव ने बताया कि पुतिन ने इस दौरान अमेरिका की 250वीं स्वतंत्रता वर्षगांठ पर ट्रंप को शुभकामनाएं भी दीं। दोनों नेताओं ने तुर्की में 7-8 जुलाई को होने वाले नाटो शिखर सम्मेलन के संदर्भ में यूक्रेन संकट पर भी विचार-विमर्श किया।
बातचीत के दौरान पुतिन ने ट्रंप को युद्धक्षेत्र की मौजूदा स्थिति की जानकारी दी और दोहराया कि रूस अपनी मूल रणनीतिक प्राथमिकताओं को ध्यान में रखते हुए राजनीतिक और कूटनीतिक समाधान का पक्षधर है।
क्रेमलिन के मुताबिक, दोनों नेताओं ने सैन्य संघर्ष को लंबा खींचने के बजाय बातचीत के जरिए संकट का समाधान तलाशने पर भी चर्चा की।
इसके बाद ट्रंप ने यूक्रेन के राष्ट्रपति वोलोदिमिर जेलेंस्की से भी बातचीत की। जेलेंस्की ने अमेरिका की स्वतंत्रता की 250वीं वर्षगांठ पर ट्रंप को बधाई दी और युद्धक्षेत्र की वर्तमान स्थिति के साथ-साथ चल रही कूटनीतिक पहलों पर चर्चा की।
टेलीग्राम पर बातचीत को “बेहद अच्छी” बताते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि युद्ध समाप्त करने की वास्तविक संभावना मौजूद है और इसमें अमेरिका की दृढ़ भूमिका बेहद महत्वपूर्ण होगी। दोनों नेताओं ने नाटो शिखर सम्मेलन के दौरान इस विषय पर आगे भी चर्चा जारी रखने पर सहमति जताई।
क्रेमलिन ने यह भी बताया कि ट्रंप ने पुतिन को सूचित किया कि अमेरिकी विशेष दूत स्टीव विटकॉफ और जेरेड कुशनर रूस और यूक्रेन के बीच समझौते की दिशा में अपने प्रयास जारी रखेंगे। आवश्यकता पड़ने पर दोनों दूत मॉस्को की यात्रा करने के लिए भी तैयार हैं।
यह नई कूटनीतिक पहल ऐसे समय में सामने आई है जब अमेरिका की अगुवाई में चल रही शांति वार्ताओं की रफ्तार धीमी पड़ गई है और वॉशिंगटन का ध्यान हाल के दिनों में ईरान से जुड़े घटनाक्रमों की ओर अधिक केंद्रित रहा है।
उशाकोव ने बताया कि पुतिन ने उम्मीद जताई कि ईरान संकट में अमेरिका की कूटनीतिक भूमिका दीर्घकालिक और सभी पक्षों के लिए स्वीकार्य समाधान निकालने में सहायक होगी। उन्होंने ट्रंप को एक बार फिर मॉस्को आने का निमंत्रण भी दिया।
यह दोनों फोन वार्ताएं तुर्की में शुरू होने वाले नाटो शिखर सम्मेलन से कुछ दिन पहले हुईं, जहां यूक्रेन युद्ध प्रमुख मुद्दों में शामिल रहेगा।
हाल ही में रूस ने कीव समेत कई यूक्रेनी क्षेत्रों पर इस वर्ष के सबसे घातक हवाई हमलों में से एक को अंजाम दिया, जबकि जवाबी कार्रवाई में यूक्रेन ने भी रूस के भीतर तेल रिफाइनरियों सहित कई रणनीतिक ठिकानों पर ड्रोन और मिसाइल हमले तेज कर दिए हैं।
ट्रंप के नाटो शिखर सम्मेलन में भाग लेने की उम्मीद है, जहां वह एक बार फिर यूरोपीय सहयोगियों से महाद्वीप की सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी में अधिक योगदान देने और रक्षा खर्च बढ़ाने की अपील करेंगे।
उनका लंबे समय से मानना रहा है कि यूरोपीय देशों को अपनी सुरक्षा के लिए अमेरिका पर निर्भरता कम करनी चाहिए।
