Trump Reassures Netanyahu on Iran Nuclear Deal as Israel Pushes for Tough Security Conditions

United States President Donald Trump has assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that any future agreement with Iran will address critical concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, missile programme and support for Hezbollah, according to a senior diplomatic source cited by Israeli media.

The source said Trump made it clear to Netanyahu that no deal would be finalised unless the issues that originally led to military confrontation between the United States, Israel and Iran were adequately resolved.

The assurance comes as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue amid uncertainty over whether a final agreement is within reach.

According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Trump and Netanyahu held discussions on Friday and agreed that any future accord should require Iran to relinquish its stockpile of enriched nuclear material.

The proposed framework would also include strict restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear activities and ballistic missile programme.

The latest developments come against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.

While Trump has repeatedly suggested that a diplomatic breakthrough may be close, Iranian officials have consistently maintained that no final agreement has yet been reached.

Israel Closely Monitoring the Negotiations

Although Israel is not a direct participant in the discussions between Washington and Tehran, Israeli leaders remain deeply invested in the outcome of the talks and are closely monitoring developments.

In a statement posted on X, Netanyahu’s office expressed appreciation for Trump’s commitment to ensuring that any final agreement includes the removal of enriched nuclear material, the dismantling of enrichment facilities, limits on missile production and an end to Iran’s support for armed groups operating across the region.

Later, Netanyahu reiterated his long-standing opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

In a separate social media post, he said that he and Trump shared a common position on the issue and remained firmly committed to preventing Tehran from developing a nuclear arsenal.

The Israeli leader argued that he has spent decades campaigning against Iran’s nuclear programme and claimed that continued international pressure has played a significant role in preventing Tehran from obtaining atomic weapons.

He also accused Iran of posing an existential threat to Israel and pledged to continue efforts to counter that challenge.

Possibility of Regime Change Raised if Talks Collapse

The diplomatic source quoted by Israeli media also suggested that if negotiations fail after an initial understanding is reached and Iran continues its military activities, discussions in Washington could eventually shift toward the possibility of regime change in Tehran.

The remarks came shortly after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed suggestions that a final agreement was imminent.

Speaking earlier in the week, Baqaei stated that Iran had not yet made a final decision regarding the proposed deal and emphasised that negotiations remained unresolved.

With both sides continuing to send mixed signals about the progress of talks, uncertainty persists over whether the United States and Iran can bridge their differences and reach a comprehensive agreement that satisfies the security concerns of regional stakeholders, including Israel.
