Prayagraj Fraud Cases: ₹70,000 Cheated on Promise of Police Job, ₹65,000 Duped in Fake Overseas Employment Offer
Two Fraud Cases Reported in Prayagraj: Victims Cheated on False Job Promises
Prayagraj: Two separate cases of alleged financial fraud have surfaced in Prayagraj district, where individuals were reportedly duped of thousands of rupees on the pretext of securing government employment and overseas jobs.
Police have registered complaints and initiated investigations into both incidents.
₹70,000 Allegedly Taken on Pretext of Securing Police Job
In the Mauaima police station area, a man has accused a local individual of cheating his family by falsely promising a police job for his son.
According to the complaint, Shyam Lal Bind, a resident of Chhata village, stated that his son Ram Murat has been preparing for competitive examinations with the aim of securing a government job.
In 2023, Anil Kumar Yadav, a resident of Devgalpur village, along with his family members, allegedly assured the family that they could arrange a job in the police department.
Believing the claim, the family reportedly paid ₹70,000 to the accused. However, when no appointment letter was received even after a long period, the family began to suspect fraud.
When they demanded the return of their money, the accused allegedly kept delaying the matter with repeated assurances.
The complainant further stated that a written complaint was submitted at Mauaima police station on August 6, 2025, after which a compromise was reached in which the accused had agreed to return the money.
However, the amount was never refunded.
Subsequently, Shyam Lal Bind filed a written complaint with the Police Commissioner. Acting on the Commissioner’s directive, police have registered an FIR against Anil Kumar Yadav and his family members and started further investigation.
Youth Duped of ₹65,000 on False Promise of Overseas Job.
In another incident reported in the Soraon police station area, a young man was allegedly cheated of ₹65,000 on the pretext of arranging employment abroad.
The victim, Vikas Kumar, a resident of Kaulapur Gaura village in Pratapgarh district, had come to Sevait village in Soraon to visit relatives. During his stay, a relative informed him about an acquaintance who allegedly helps people secure jobs overseas.
Vikas was introduced to a man from Saraidina village, who claimed he could arrange a foreign job opportunity. Trusting his claims, Vikas transferred approximately ₹65,000 to the accused’s bank account as part of the process.
For several days, the accused reportedly told Vikas that flight arrangements would be made first from Delhi and later from Gujarat. However, when Vikas began demanding either confirmation or a refund, the accused allegedly stopped responding to calls.
Feeling cheated, Vikas Kumar filed a complaint at the Soraon police station. Station House Officer Keshav Verma confirmed that the complaint has been received and the matter is currently under investigation.
Police Urge Caution Against Job Frauds
Police officials have advised job seekers and their families to remain cautious and avoid making payments to individuals promising government jobs or overseas placements without proper verification. Authorities have reiterated that recruitment in government departments follows official procedures and warned that fraudulent agents often target aspirants preparing for competitive exams.
Both cases are under investigation, and legal action will be taken against the accused based on the findings.
