Two Girls Missing After Five Teenagers Swept Away While Bathing in Karnavati River
Two teenage girls went missing in the Karnavati River near Prayagraj after five girls were swept away while bathing following Kakri festival rituals. Three were rescued by local youths.
PRAYAGRAJ: A festive morning in Prayagraj district turned into a desperate search operation on Monday after five teenage girls were caught in the strong current of the Karnavati River while bathing following the immersion of jarai-gudiyas.
Three of them were pulled to safety by local youths, but two girls were swept downstream and remained missing despite hours of search efforts.
The incident occurred near Rampur Siriya village, around 500 metres from the girls’ village of Surwandalapur under the Manda police station area.
The group had gone to the river as part of the Kakri festival observance.
After completing the immersion ritual, the girls entered the water to bathe when the current suddenly became difficult to negotiate.
People working in agricultural fields along the river noticed the commotion and rushed towards the water.
Hariom, Parikshit Singh, Somu and several other youths from Rampur Siriya entered the river and managed to bring three girls—Gullu, Arya and Prapti—to the bank.
Ankita Tiwari and Shubhi Mishra, however, were carried away by the current before they could be reached.
The missing girls were identified as 14-year-old Ankita Tiwari, daughter of Rajesh Tiwari, and 13-year-old Shubhi Mishra, daughter of Shailendra Mishra.
The other three in the group were 13-year-old Gullu, 13-year-old Arya Mishra, also known as Rabi, and 14-year-old Prapti Tiwari.
News of the accident quickly reached the families and villagers, triggering panic and grief in Surwandalapur.
Police and residents began searching the river soon after the incident was reported.
Maja tehsildar Pawan Singh, Manda police station in-charge Kuldeep Sharma and personnel from the Bharatganj and Dighiya outposts reached the site along with a fire brigade team.
Local divers joined the operation at around 4 pm, followed by the water police team about an hour later.
Search operations continued into the evening, but Ankita and Shubhi could not be located. Authorities and rescue teams remained engaged in efforts to trace the two teenagers in the river.

प्रयागराज: कजरी पर्व के मौके पर सोमवार को नदी किनारे गया एक किशोरियों का समूह अचानक हादसे की चपेट में आ गया।
मांडा क्षेत्र में कर्णावती नदी में स्नान के दौरान पांच लड़कियां तेज धारा में फंस गईं।
आसपास मौजूद युवकों ने तत्काल पानी में उतरकर तीन किशोरियों को बाहर निकाल लिया, जबकि दो अन्य बहाव के साथ दूर चली गईं और देर शाम तक उनका पता नहीं चल सका।
घटना रामपुर सिरिया गांव के सामने हुई, जो सुरवांदलापुर गांव से करीब आधा किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है।
बताया गया कि पांचों किशोरियां कजरी पर्व की परंपरा के तहत जरई और गुड़िया लेकर नदी पहुंची थीं।
पूजा से जुड़ी सामग्री को पानी में प्रवाहित करने के बाद वे नदी में स्नान करने लगीं।
इसी दौरान पानी के तेज बहाव ने स्थिति को अचानक खतरनाक बना दिया और सभी लड़कियां उसकी चपेट में आ गईं।
नदी के आसपास खेतों में काम कर रहे लोगों ने लड़कियों को परेशानी में देखा तो मदद के लिए दौड़ पड़े।
रामपुर सिरिया गांव के हरिओम, परीक्षित सिंह, सोमू और अन्य युवकों ने बिना देर किए नदी में छलांग लगा दी।
उनके प्रयास से गुल्लू, आर्या और प्राप्ति को सुरक्षित किनारे तक पहुंचा दिया गया। हालांकि अंकिता और शुभि पानी के तेज बहाव में बहकर आंखों से ओझल हो गईं।
लापता किशोरियों की पहचान सुरवांदलापुर निवासी राजेश तिवारी की 14 वर्षीय बेटी अंकिता तिवारी और शैलेंद्र मिश्रा की 13 वर्षीय बेटी शुभि मिश्रा के रूप में हुई है।
उनके साथ नदी पर गईं अन्य किशोरियों में 13 वर्षीय गुल्लू, 13 वर्षीय आर्या मिश्रा उर्फ राबी और 14 वर्षीय प्राप्ति तिवारी शामिल थीं।
घटना की जानकारी गांव में पहुंचते ही दोनों परिवारों में मातम छा गया और बड़ी संख्या में ग्रामीण नदी के किनारे पहुंच गए।
पुलिस ने स्थानीय लोगों के साथ मिलकर लापता किशोरियों की तलाश शुरू की।
सूचना मिलने पर मेजा तहसीलदार पवन सिंह, मांडा थाना प्रभारी कुलदीप शर्मा, भारतगंज और दिघिया चौकी की पुलिस के अलावा फायर ब्रिगेड की टीम मौके पर पहुंची।
करीब चार बजे स्थानीय गोताखोरों ने तलाश शुरू की, जबकि जल पुलिस की टीम लगभग पांच बजे अभियान में शामिल हुई।
नदी में कई घंटे तक खोजबीन चलती रही, लेकिन शाम तक अंकिता और शुभि के बारे में कोई जानकारी नहीं मिल सकी। दोनों को तलाशने के लिए बचाव दल और पुलिस की कार्रवाई जारी रही।
