The teenager’s IPL 2026 numbers have been nothing short of phenomenal. In just 12 innings, he has amassed 486 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.78.

Speaking to SportsBoom, Mohit Sharma openly supported the idea of Sooryavanshi playing for India.
According to the former pacer, the youngster has already proven himself against world-class opposition and shown that he belongs on the big stage.
“Why shouldn’t he play for India?” Mohit said. “To represent your country, you need to perform against top teams and quality players, and he is already doing that in the IPL.
The only thing selectors now need to consider is the team combination and whether there is room for him in the playing XI.”
Despite the excitement surrounding Sooryavanshi, breaking into India’s T20 setup will not be straightforward. The competition for opening spots remains extremely intense.
Players like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan are already established names and were part of India’s victorious 2026 T20 World Cup squad.
In addition to them, Shubman Gill has rediscovered his best form this IPL season. Gill has scored 552 runs in 12 innings and is currently just three runs behind in the Orange Cap race.

“He is not just scoring runs — he is attacking some of the best fast bowlers in the world,” Mohit remarked.
“At the moment, he is primarily playing one style of cricket, but with time,e he will learn more and continue improving. With the kind of talent he has, I believe he has a very bright future ahead.”
Mohit, who represented India in 26 One-Day Internationals and was part of the country’s 2015 World Cup squad, ended the discussion on a lighter note.
Laughing about Sooryavanshi’s destructive batting, he admitted he was thankful to have retired from the IPL before facing the teenage sensation himself.
“I’m honestly happy I have retired,” he joked. “Otherwise, I probably would have been smashed too.”
