Prayagraj ( Phaphamau) Police have arrested a young man accused of misleading and attempting to convert a partially mentally ill youth to another religion, allegedly by changing his attire, taking him to a shrine, making him offer prayers, and uploading photos and videos on social media.

An FIR has been registered, and further legal action is underway, officials confirmed.

According to police, the incident took place in Tiwaripur Lehara village under Pharphamau police limits in Prayagraj district.

The complainant, Sachin Tiwari, stated that his younger brother, 20-year-old Saphal Tiwari, has been suffering from mental health issues and is not fully stable.

He alleged that on October 21, Mohammad Hasnain, alias Hussain from Gaddopur village, persuaded Saphal to accompany him to a shrine in Civil Lines.

At the shrine, Hasnain reportedly changed Saphal’s clothes, made him perform namaz, and encouraged him to convert to another faith.

He then allegedly recorded the act and uploaded the photos and videos on social media.

When the family came across the viral footage, they were shocked. Sachin Tiwari immediately submitted a written complaint to Phaphamau Police Station on Thursday.

Acting promptly, police registered an FIR and arrested the accused Mohammad Hasnain.

Gangnagar DCP Kuldeep Singh Gunawat stated that the accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is in progress.
