Bhopal/Burhanpur/Buldhana: What began as a desperate search for a missing daughter ended in one of the most shocking cases of wrongful arrest in recent years.

A daily-wage labourer from Madhya Pradesh spent 22 days behind bars on charges of murdering his own daughter, only for the young woman to later walk into a police station alive, exposing serious lapses in the investigation that led to his imprisonment.

The extraordinary case triggered political and administrative repercussions in Maharashtra after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis admitted in the State Assembly that investigators had committed a grave error by arresting the father and his son without scientifically confirming the identity of a headless, partially burnt body recovered in neighbouring Buldhana district.

Calling the incident a “serious mistake”, the Chief Minister ordered the suspension of the officers involved, directed the registration of criminal cases against them, initiated a departmental inquiry to be completed within three months, and announced financial assistance for the affected family.

“No One Has Even Said Sorry”

Despite the government’s announcement, Bapuram Kalmekar, 55, says life has hardly changed since his release.

Speaking from his village, Khadki in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, the labourer said neither compensation nor even a formal apology has reached his family.

“No police officer has come to apologise. Nobody has contacted us regarding the compensation announced by the Chief Minister. I came to know about the announcement only after someone showed me a video on a mobile phone,” he said.

For Kalmekar, the emotional scars remain deeper than the legal battle that continues to unfold.

The Evening Everything Changed

The ordeal began during the first week of May when a team of six policemen from Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, accompanied by a local constable, arrived unexpectedly at Kalmekar’s modest home in Khadki village.

According to Bapuram, the officers informed him that his daughter Shivani had been found dead and that he was required to identify her body.

Instead of taking him to the mortuary, however, he alleges he was detained overnight at Khaknar Police Station in Madhya Pradesh.

“They told me I was being taken to identify my daughter’s body. But I was kept inside the police station for nearly a day. I never got to see anybody—not even once,” he recalled.

Father and Son Claim They Were Forced to Confess

The family’s allegations paint a disturbing picture of the interrogation that followed.

Bapuram alleges that he and his 28-year-old son Ajay were separated and questioned individually.

According to him, investigators repeatedly claimed that the other had already confessed.

“They kept telling me that my son had admitted everything. They told my son that I had confessed. After hours of pressure and exhaustion, I finally agreed with whatever they were saying because I believed my son had already admitted to the crime,” he said.

Ajay echoed the allegation.

“We finally started saying ‘yes’ to every question because we were exhausted. But we never killed Shivani,” he said.

The two were arrested on allegations that they had committed an honour killing, a charge that would later collapse completely.

Throughout the investigation, Bapuram maintained his innocence, repeatedly insisting that his daughter was alive and that he had committed no crime.

Police Respond to Custodial Allegations

When questioned about the family’s allegations of custodial assault and coercion, Buldhana Superintendent of Police Nilesh Tambe said the matter was already under departmental inquiry.

“Every allegation made by the family will be examined during the inquiry,” he said, without commenting further.

How a Missing Person Complaint Became a Murder Investigation

Ironically, it was Bapuram himself who had first approached the police seeking help in tracing his missing daughter.

After Shivani left home around April 23, her father lodged a missing persons report at Khaknar Police Station in Burhanpur district, hoping that police would locate her safely.

Initially, the complaint did not mention that Shivani had been married earlier and had temporarily returned to her parental home before leaving again.

That detail emerged only later during questioning by Maharashtra Police.

Khaknar Police Station House Officer Inspector Abhishek Jadhaw said investigators eventually learnt that Shivani had allegedly left with Arun Kalmekar, another resident of Khadki village.

“Once Maharashtra Police informed us that the missing woman had allegedly been murdered, we began searching for Arun as well. A formal missing person’s investigation was registered on May 9 after fresh information became available,” Jadhaw said.

At that stage, both police teams believed they were investigating a homicide.

Neither knew that the woman they believed to be dead was, in fact, still alive.

The investigation took a dramatic turn after Maharashtra Police discovered the partially burnt, headless body of an unidentified young woman near a riverbank in Buldhana district.

A human skull was later recovered nearly 100 metres away from the spot, prompting investigators to suspect that the victim had been murdered and her identity concealed.

As officers searched records of missing women in neighbouring districts, they came across the complaint filed by Bapuram Kalmekar regarding his missing daughter, Shivani.

Since the estimated age of the unidentified victim broadly matched Shivani’s, investigators concluded that the body belonged to her.

However, as was later acknowledged by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Assembly, police proceeded without carrying out scientific identification through methods such as DNA profiling or other forensic verification before arresting Shivani’s father and brother.

Inspector Abhishek Jadhaw, Station House Officer of Khaknar police station in Madhya Pradesh, said Maharashtra Police informed them that the unidentified body recovered in Buldhana had been identified as Shivani.

Acting on that information, both police teams pursued the investigation as a murder case.

An ‘Honour Killing’ Narrative Was Built Around the Arrests

Once the arrests were made, investigators developed a theory that Shivani had been killed by her own family because she was allegedly in a relationship with her cousin despite being married.

According to the prosecution’s version, Bapuram allegedly beat his daughter to death with a bamboo stick on the night of April 23.

Police claimed that the body remained inside the house overnight before being transported on a motorcycle for more than 100 kilometres into Maharashtra’s Buldhana district.

Investigators further alleged that the body was set on fire, the head was severed to prevent identification, and the remains were abandoned at separate locations.

Police also claimed that the clothes allegedly stained with blood and the suspected weapon had been disposed of.

As subsequent developments revealed, the entire sequence of events turned out to be incorrect.

Search for Arun Leads Police to the Truth

Even while Maharashtra Police were treating the case as a confirmed murder, officers in Madhya Pradesh continued searching for Arun Kalmekar, the man believed to have accompanied Shivani after she left home.

Inspector Jadhaw said police began questioning people who knew Arun and eventually learnt that he had travelled outside the state in search of daily-wage employment.

That lead changed the course of the investigation.

After tracing Arun, officers found that Shivani was alive and staying with him.

Police initially located the couple in Nagpur, where they were questioned before being persuaded to return to Burhanpur voluntarily.

“Once we established communication and gained their confidence, they agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

We verified Shivani’s identity through multiple methods, including biometric authentication, before asking her to appear before Jalgaon Jamod Police Station in Maharashtra,” Jadhaw said.

Her appearance before the Maharashtra Police immediately exposed the error that had led to the arrest of her father and brother.

Twenty-Two Days in Jail for a Crime That Never Occurred

The moment Shivani was confirmed to be alive, the prosecution’s murder case collapsed.

Bapuram Kalmekar and his son Ajay, who had spent 22 days in judicial custody, were released after the police acknowledged that the woman they were accused of killing was not Shivani.

The case has since become one of the most debated examples of investigative failure in recent years, raising serious questions about police procedures in cases involving unidentified bodies.

The Maharashtra government has announced disciplinary action against the investigating officers and ordered both a criminal inquiry and a departmental probe into the lapses.

One Mystery Still Awaits an Answer

While Shivani’s return brought relief to her family, another disturbing question remains unanswered.

If the body recovered in Buldhana was not Shivani’s, then whose body was it?

Buldhana Superintendent of Police Nilesh Tambe confirmed that the identity of the deceased woman has still not been established.

The unidentified victim, whose remains became the basis of an entirely mistaken murder investigation, is yet to be identified, and investigators continue their efforts to determine who she was and how she died.

A Family Trying to Rebuild Its Life

Although free from jail, Bapuram says life has not returned to normal.

During his incarceration, his house remained locked while other members of the family struggled to cope with the crisis.

His daughter-in-law had gone to her parents’ home for childbirth, leaving the household virtually deserted.

Neighbours in Khadki village still remember the evening the police arrived.

Deputy Sarpanch Mitharam Jambekar recalled that officers took away both father and son without allowing villagers to speak to them.

“The police told us only that the daughter had died and that they needed to question them. No one from the village was permitted to go near them,” he said.

According to residents, Bapuram has become noticeably withdrawn since his release.

Every morning, he quietly leaves home for daily-wage work and returns only after dark, avoiding conversations about the case that changed his life.

Trauma Lingers Despite Official Action

Community leaders say the emotional impact on the family remains profound.

Tribal rights activist Vinod Daberao, who has been regularly visiting the family, said both Bapuram and his son continue to struggle with the psychological consequences of their arrest.

“They have lost faith in the system. The family now hesitates to speak even to government officials. Ajay, especially, remains deeply shaken. We continue visiting them so that they do not feel isolated or face any further pressure,” he said.

While the government has promised accountability, compensation and disciplinary proceedings, the Kalmekar family says true justice will come only when those responsible for the wrongful arrests are held accountable—and when the identity of the unknown woman, whose tragic death set the entire chain of events in motion, is finally established.

 बेटी की तलाश से शुरू हुई कहानी, 22 दिन की जेल और फिर सामने आई चौंकाने वाली सच्चाई

भोपाल/बुरहानपुर/बुलढाणा: अपनी लापता बेटी को खोजने के लिए पुलिस की मदद लेने वाला एक मजदूर कुछ ही दिनों में उसी बेटी की हत्या के आरोप में जेल पहुंच गया। मध्य प्रदेश के बुरहानपुर जिले के रहने वाले बापुराम कालमेकर ने पूरे 22 दिन जेल में बिताए।

इसके बाद उनकी बेटी शिवानी खुद पुलिस थाने पहुंची और जिंदा होने की पुष्टि की। इसी एक घटना ने पूरे मामले की दिशा बदल दी और पुलिस जांच में हुई गंभीर चूक उजागर हो गई।

यह मामला तब पूरे देश में चर्चा का विषय बन गया जब महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने विधानसभा में स्वीकार किया कि जांच अधिकारियों ने बिना वैज्ञानिक तरीके से शव की पहचान सुनिश्चित किए ही बापुराम और उनके बेटे को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।

मुख्यमंत्री ने इसे पुलिस की गंभीर भूल बताते हुए संबंधित अधिकारियों को निलंबित करने, उनके खिलाफ आपराधिक मुकदमा दर्ज करने, तीन महीने के भीतर विभागीय जांच पूरी कराने और पीड़ित परिवार को आर्थिक सहायता देने की घोषणा की।

‘आज तक किसी ने माफी तक नहीं मांगी’

सरकारी घोषणाओं के बावजूद बापुराम कालमेकर का कहना है कि उनके जीवन में अब तक कोई बदलाव नहीं आया है।

बुरहानपुर जिले के खड़की गांव में रहने वाले 55 वर्षीय दिहाड़ी मजदूर ने बताया कि न तो उन्हें किसी प्रकार की आर्थिक सहायता मिली है और न ही किसी पुलिस अधिकारी ने अब तक उनसे मिलकर माफी मांगी है।

उन्होंने कहा, “मुख्यमंत्री ने क्या घोषणा की, इसकी जानकारी भी मुझे किसी अधिकारी ने नहीं दी। गांव के एक व्यक्ति ने मोबाइल पर वीडियो दिखाया, तब पता चला कि मुआवजे और कार्रवाई की बात कही गई है। आज तक कोई पुलिस वाला हमारे घर नहीं आया।”

बापुराम कहते हैं कि जेल से बाहर आने के बाद भी उनका परिवार मानसिक पीड़ा से बाहर नहीं निकल पाया है।

एक शाम जिसने जिंदगी बदल दी

मई के पहले सप्ताह की एक शाम महाराष्ट्र के बुलढाणा जिले से आए छह पुलिसकर्मी मध्य प्रदेश के बुरहानपुर जिले के खड़की गांव पहुंचे। उनके साथ स्थानीय पुलिस का एक जवान भी मौजूद था।

बापुराम के अनुसार पुलिस ने उन्हें बताया कि उनकी बेटी शिवानी का शव बरामद हो गया है और उन्हें उसकी पहचान के लिए चलना होगा।

लेकिन उनका आरोप है कि शव दिखाने के बजाय उन्हें खकनार थाने में पूरी रात और अगले दिन तक बैठाए रखा गया।

उन्होंने कहा, “मुझे कहा गया था कि बेटी का शव पहचानना है, लेकिन मुझे कभी शव दिखाया ही नहीं गया। पूरी रात और पूरा दिन थाने में रखा गया। आखिर तक मुझे यह भी नहीं पता चला कि पुलिस किस शव की बात कर रही थी।”

‘पुलिस ने कहा बेटे ने कबूल लिया है, फिर मुझसे भी कहलवा लिया’

बापुराम और उनके बेटे अजय का आरोप है कि पूछताछ के दौरान दोनों को अलग-अलग कमरों में रखा गया और मानसिक दबाव बनाया गया।

बापुराम का कहना है कि पुलिस लगातार उन्हें यह कहती रही कि उनका बेटा हत्या स्वीकार कर चुका है। वहीं अजय से कहा गया कि उसके पिता ने अपराध कबूल कर लिया है।

उन्होंने बताया, “बार-बार यही कहा गया कि बेटा सब मान चुका है। मैं घंटों तक पूछताछ और थकान से टूट चुका था। मुझे लगा कि जब बेटे ने स्वीकार कर लिया है तो अब इनकार करने का कोई मतलब नहीं। आखिरकार मैंने भी पुलिस की बातों पर ‘हां’ कहना शुरू कर दिया।”

28 वर्षीय अजय ने भी इसी तरह के आरोप लगाए।

उसने कहा, “हमने कोई हत्या नहीं की थी। लेकिन लगातार दबाव और थकान के कारण आखिर में पुलिस जो पूछती रही, हम सिर्फ ‘हां’ कहते रहे।”

इसके बाद पुलिस ने पिता और बेटे को तथाकथित ‘ऑनर किलिंग’ के आरोप में गिरफ्तार कर लिया। बापुराम का कहना है कि गिरफ्तारी के बाद भी उन्होंने बार-बार पुलिस से कहा कि उनकी बेटी जिंदा है और उन्होंने कोई अपराध नहीं किया है।

हिरासत में मारपीट के आरोपों पर पुलिस का जवाब

परिवार द्वारा हिरासत में मारपीट और दबाव बनाकर बयान लेने के आरोपों पर बुलढाणा के पुलिस अधीक्षक निलेश तांबे ने कहा कि पूरे मामले की विभागीय जांच चल रही है।

उन्होंने कहा, “परिवार ने जो भी आरोप लगाए हैं, उनकी जांच की जाएगी। जांच पूरी होने के बाद तथ्यों के आधार पर आगे की कार्रवाई होगी।”

उन्होंने इस विषय पर इससे अधिक टिप्पणी करने से इनकार कर दिया।

जिस पिता ने बेटी की गुमशुदगी दर्ज कराई, वही बन गया हत्या का आरोपी

विडंबना यह रही कि पूरे मामले की शुरुआत स्वयं बापुराम कालमेकर की ओर से दर्ज कराई गई गुमशुदगी की रिपोर्ट से हुई थी।

जब 23 अप्रैल के आसपास शिवानी घर से चली गई, तब उसके पिता ने मध्य प्रदेश के खकनार थाने में उसकी गुमशुदगी दर्ज कराई थी। उस समय परिवार की एकमात्र चिंता बेटी को सुरक्षित ढूंढ़ निकालना था।

प्रारंभिक शिकायत में यह उल्लेख नहीं किया गया था कि शिवानी की पहले शादी हो चुकी थी और वह कुछ समय के लिए अपने मायके आई हुई थी। यह जानकारी बाद में महाराष्ट्र पुलिस की पूछताछ के दौरान सामने आई।

खकनार थाना प्रभारी अभिषेक जाधव के अनुसार जांच के दौरान पुलिस को पता चला कि शिवानी गांव के ही रहने वाले अरुण कालमेकर के साथ चली गई थी।

उन्होंने बताया, “महाराष्ट्र पुलिस ने हमें सूचना दी थी कि हमारी सीमा से लापता युवती की हत्या हो चुकी है। इसके बाद हमने अरुण की तलाश शुरू की। 9 मई को उपलब्ध नई जानकारी के आधार पर विस्तृत गुमशुदगी जांच दर्ज की गई।”

उस समय तक मध्य प्रदेश और महाराष्ट्र—दोनों राज्यों की पुलिस को पूरा विश्वास था कि वे एक हत्या की जांच कर रही हैं।

किसी को यह अंदाजा नहीं था कि जिस युवती को मृत मान लिया गया था, वह वास्तव में जीवित है।

 गलत शव की पहचान से टूटा पूरा हत्या का मामला, लेकिन अब भी अनसुलझा है एक महिला की मौत का रहस्य

जांच के दौरान कहानी ने उस समय अप्रत्याशित मोड़ लिया, जब महाराष्ट्र के बुलढाणा जिले में नदी किनारे एक अज्ञात युवती का आंशिक रूप से जला हुआ और सिर कटा शव बरामद हुआ। कुछ दूरी पर एक मानव खोपड़ी भी मिली।

शव की हालत देखकर पुलिस ने आशंका जताई कि हत्या के बाद पहचान छिपाने के उद्देश्य से शव को जलाया गया और उसके अंग अलग-अलग स्थानों पर फेंक दिए गए।

जांच आगे बढ़ी तो महाराष्ट्र पुलिस ने पड़ोसी जिलों में दर्ज गुमशुदगी की रिपोर्टों का मिलान शुरू किया। इसी दौरान बापुराम कालमेकर द्वारा अपनी बेटी शिवानी की दर्ज कराई गई गुमशुदगी की रिपोर्ट पुलिस के सामने आई।

शव की अनुमानित उम्र शिवानी से मिलती-जुलती होने के आधार पर जांच अधिकारियों ने यह निष्कर्ष निकाल लिया कि बरामद शव उसी का है।

बाद में महाराष्ट्र विधानसभा में मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने स्वीकार किया कि पुलिस ने डीएनए परीक्षण या अन्य वैज्ञानिक तरीकों से पहचान सुनिश्चित किए बिना ही इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचकर पिता और भाई को गिरफ्तार कर लिया, जो गंभीर जांच त्रुटि थी।

मध्य प्रदेश के खकनार थाना प्रभारी अभिषेक जाधव ने भी बताया कि महाराष्ट्र पुलिस ने उन्हें सूचित किया था कि बुलढाणा में मिला शव उनकी सीमा से लापता शिवानी का ही है।

इसी सूचना के आधार पर दोनों राज्यों की पुलिस ने पूरे मामले को हत्या मानकर जांच आगे बढ़ाई।

पुलिस ने ‘ऑनर किलिंग’ की कहानी तैयार की

गिरफ्तारी के बाद जांच एजेंसियों ने इस मामले को तथाकथित ‘ऑनर किलिंग’ का रूप दिया। पुलिस का दावा था कि शादीशुदा होने के बावजूद शिवानी अपने रिश्तेदार अरुण कालमेकर के संपर्क में थी और इसी कारण परिवार ने उसकी हत्या कर दी।

जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने आरोप लगाया कि 23 अप्रैल की रात बापुराम ने बांस के डंडे से पीट-पीटकर अपनी बेटी की हत्या कर दी। इसके बाद शव को पूरी रात घर में रखा गया और अगले दिन मोटरसाइकिल पर 100 किलोमीटर से अधिक दूरी तय कर महाराष्ट्र के बुलढाणा जिले में ले जाया गया।

पुलिस का दावा था कि वहां शव को जलाया गया, पहचान मिटाने के लिए सिर अलग किया गया और शव के अवशेष अलग-अलग स्थानों पर फेंक दिए गए। यह भी कहा गया कि कथित हत्या में प्रयुक्त डंडा और खून से सने कपड़े रास्ते में कहीं नष्ट कर दिए गए।

लेकिन कुछ ही दिनों बाद सामने आए तथ्यों ने इस पूरी कहानी को पूरी तरह गलत साबित कर दिया।

अरुण की तलाश ने खोला पूरा राज

इधर महाराष्ट्र पुलिस हत्या की जांच में जुटी थी, उधर मध्य प्रदेश पुलिस ने शिवानी के साथ गए बताए जा रहे अरुण कालमेकर की तलाश जारी रखी।

थाना प्रभारी अभिषेक जाधव के अनुसार पूछताछ के दौरान पता चला कि अरुण मजदूरी की तलाश में दूसरे शहर चला गया है। पुलिस ने उसके संभावित ठिकानों पर खोजबीन शुरू की और आखिरकार वह मिल गया।

सबसे बड़ा खुलासा तब हुआ जब अरुण के साथ शिवानी भी जीवित मिली।

पुलिस ने दोनों को पहले नागपुर में खोज निकाला। प्रारंभिक पूछताछ के बाद दोनों का विश्वास जीता गया और उन्हें स्वेच्छा से बुरहानपुर आने के लिए तैयार किया गया।

जाधव ने बताया, “हमने कई स्तरों पर शिवानी की पहचान की पुष्टि की। बायोमेट्रिक रिकॉर्ड सहित अन्य दस्तावेजों से यह सुनिश्चित किया गया कि वही गुमशुदा युवती है। इसके बाद उसे महाराष्ट्र के जलगांव जामोद थाने में उपस्थित होने की सलाह दी गई।”

जैसे ही शिवानी महाराष्ट्र पुलिस के सामने पहुंची, उसके पिता और भाई के खिलाफ दर्ज हत्या का पूरा मामला ढह गया।

22 दिन जेल में रहने के बाद मिली आजादी

शिवानी के जीवित होने की पुष्टि होते ही पुलिस की पूरी जांच सवालों के घेरे में आ गई। हत्या का आधार ही समाप्त हो गया और 22 दिन से जेल में बंद बापुराम कालमेकर और उनके बेटे अजय को रिहा कर दिया गया।

यह मामला अब हाल के वर्षों में पुलिस जांच की सबसे बड़ी चूकों में से एक माना जा रहा है। इस घटना ने यह गंभीर सवाल खड़े किए हैं कि किसी अज्ञात शव की पहचान किए बिना केवल परिस्थितियों के आधार पर हत्या का मामला कैसे बना दिया गया और दो निर्दोष लोगों को जेल भेज दिया गया।

महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने संबंधित अधिकारियों के खिलाफ विभागीय कार्रवाई, आपराधिक मुकदमा और विस्तृत जांच के आदेश दिए हैं।

सबसे बड़ा सवाल अब भी बाकी है—आखिर वह महिला कौन थी?

शिवानी के सुरक्षित मिलने से उसके परिवार को राहत जरूर मिली, लेकिन इस पूरे मामले का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण सवाल अब भी अनुत्तरित है।

यदि बुलढाणा में मिला शव शिवानी का नहीं था, तो वह महिला कौन थी?

बुलढाणा के पुलिस अधीक्षक निलेश तांबे ने पुष्टि की है कि अब तक उस अज्ञात महिला की पहचान नहीं हो सकी है।

जिस महिला के शव को गलती से शिवानी मान लिया गया, उसकी वास्तविक पहचान, उसकी मौत के कारण और उसके हत्यारों तक पहुंचना अब पुलिस के सामने सबसे बड़ी चुनौती बन गया है।

जेल से बाहर आने के बाद भी सामान्य नहीं हुई जिंदगी

रिहाई के बाद भी बापुराम कालमेकर और उनका परिवार सामान्य जीवन में वापस नहीं लौट पाया है।

बापुराम बताते हैं कि जब वे जेल में थे, तब उनका घर कई दिनों तक बंद पड़ा रहा। उनकी बहू प्रसव के लिए मायके गई हुई थी और परिवार पूरी तरह बिखर गया था।

खड़की गांव के लोगों के जेहन में आज भी वह शाम ताजा है, जब पुलिस गांव पहुंची थी।

गांव के उपसरपंच मिथाराम जाम्बेकर बताते हैं, “पुलिस शाम को आई और पिता-पुत्र को यह कहकर अपने साथ ले गई कि उनकी बेटी की मौत हो गई है। गांव के किसी भी व्यक्ति को उनसे बात तक नहीं करने दी गई।”

ग्रामीणों का कहना है कि जेल से लौटने के बाद बापुराम पहले जैसे नहीं रहे। वे सुबह जल्दी मजदूरी पर निकल जाते हैं और देर शाम चुपचाप घर लौट आते हैं। गांव में भी वे इस घटना का जिक्र करने से बचते हैं।

डर, अविश्वास और मानसिक आघात अब भी कायम

आदिवासी समाज से जुड़े सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता विनोद डाबेराव, जो लगातार इस परिवार के संपर्क में हैं, कहते हैं कि घटना का मानसिक असर अभी भी परिवार पर साफ दिखाई देता है।

उनके अनुसार बापुराम और उनका बेटा अजय दोनों गहरे सदमे से उबर नहीं पाए हैं।

उन्होंने कहा, “अब परिवार किसी भी सरकारी अधिकारी से बात करने से डरता है। अजय आज भी मानसिक रूप से बेहद विचलित है। हम लगातार गांव जाकर परिवार से मिलते हैं ताकि उन्हें अकेलापन महसूस न हो और उन पर किसी प्रकार का दबाव न बनाया जा सके।”

सरकार ने कार्रवाई, मुआवजे और जांच का भरोसा जरूर दिया है, लेकिन कालमेकर परिवार का मानना है कि उन्हें वास्तविक न्याय तभी मिलेगा जब गलत जांच के लिए जिम्मेदार लोगों की जवाबदेही तय होगी और उस अज्ञात महिला की पहचान भी सामने आएगी, जिसकी मौत ने अनजाने में इस पूरे घटनाक्रम को जन्म दिया।
