PRAYAGRAJ: A routine return from school ended in tragedy in Prayagpuram Colony of Naini on Thursday afternoon when an eight-year-old girl was fatally crushed between a school van and the boundary wall of her house.
The child, identified as Taswani Udayanshi Pathak, was a Class 3 student who had just arrived home in the same vehicle.
According to the available details, the girl had stepped out of the van and was attempting to retrieve her schoolbag when the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle.
She became trapped in the narrow space between the van and the house’s boundary wall, sustaining fatal injuries.
The commotion inside the vehicle and the cries of the children alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the spot.
Taswani was immediately taken to a hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. The incident sparked anger among residents, who allegedly assaulted the driver before handing him over to the police.
Taswani was the only daughter of Manish Pathak and Aarti Dubey. Her father works for a private company in Delhi, while her mother is a government schoolteacher in Gorakhpur.
The lived with her paternal grandparents in their home in Prayagpuram Colony, Naini, and attended Delhi Public School.
Her grandfather, Surendra Pathak, originally belonged to Mirzapur district and had settled in Naini with his family.
Taswani’s grandmother, Kadambini, and her uncle, Pushpendra Pathak, were left devastated by the sudden loss. Her parents were informed of the tragedy and began travelling to Naini.
Naini police station in-charge Avinash Singh confirmed that the van driver had been taken into custody. He said the family had not yet submitted a formal written complaint at the time of the statement.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the need for extreme caution when school vehicles manoeuvre in residential areas, particularly while dropping children off at their homes.

प्रयागराज: नैनी की प्रयागपुरम कॉलोनी में गुरुवार दोपहर एक दर्दनाक हादसे में आठ वर्षीय छात्रा की जान चली गई। स्कूल से घर पहुंची बच्ची को वैन चालक ने वाहन पीछे करते समय कुचल दिया।
छात्रा मकान की चारदीवारी और वैन के बीच फंस गई थी। घटना के बाद इलाके में अफरा-तफरी मच गई, जबकि आक्रोशित लोगों ने चालक को पकड़कर पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया।
मृतका की पहचान तस्वनी उदयांशी पाठक के रूप में हुई है। वह दिल्ली पब्लिक स्कूल में कक्षा 3 की छात्रा थी। गुरुवार को रोजाना की तरह दोपहर करीब साढ़े तीन बजे वह स्कूल वैन से अपने घर पहुंची थी।
वाहन से उतरने के बाद वह अपना बैग निकालने में लगी थी, तभी चालक ने अचानक वैन पीछे कर दी। इससे बच्ची वाहन और घर की बाउंड्री के बीच दब गई।
हादसे के समय वैन में मौजूद अन्य बच्चों की चीख-पुकार सुनकर आसपास के लोग मौके पर पहुंच गए। गंभीर रूप से घायल तस्वनी को तत्काल अस्पताल ले जाया गया, लेकिन डॉक्टरों ने उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया।
घटना की खबर फैलते ही स्थानीय लोगों में गुस्सा फैल गया। लोगों ने चालक की पिटाई करने के बाद उसे पुलिस को सौंप दिया।
तस्वनी अपने माता-पिता की इकलौती संतान थी और नैनी स्थित अपने घर में दादा-दादी के साथ रहती थी।
उसके पिता मनीष पाठक दिल्ली में एक निजी कंपनी में काम करते हैं, जबकि मां आरती दुबे गोरखपुर के एक सरकारी विद्यालय में शिक्षिका हैं। बेटी की मौत की सूचना मिलने के बाद दोनों नैनी के लिए रवाना हो गए।
मूल रूप से मिर्जापुर जिले के रहने वाले तस्वनी के दादा सुरेंद्र पाठक ने नैनी के प्रयागपुरम में मकान बनाकर परिवार के साथ रहना शुरू किया था।
हादसे ने परिवार को गहरे सदमे में डाल दिया है। दादा सुरेंद्र पाठक, दादी कादंबिनी और चाचा पुष्पेंद्र पाठक का रो-रोकर बुरा हाल हो गया।
नैनी थाना प्रभारी अविनाश सिंह ने बताया कि स्कूल वैन चालक को हिरासत में लेकर मामले की जांच की जा रही है। उनके मुताबिक, घटना के संबंध में खबर लिखे जाने तक परिजनों की ओर से पुलिस को लिखित शिकायत नहीं दी गई थी।
यह हादसा स्कूल वाहनों के संचालन में सावधानी बरतने की जरूरत को फिर उजागर करता है। खासकर बच्चों को घर के बाहर उतारते समय वाहन को आगे-पीछे करने में अतिरिक्त सतर्कता आवश्यक है, ताकि ऐसी दुखद घटनाओं को रोका जा सके।
