Punjabi social media influencer Manjit Kaur has died following an alleged abduction and attack. Chandigarh Police are investigating the case as her family raises questions over the probe.
Chandigarh: The death of Punjabi social media personality Manjit Kaur on August 26 has turned an alleged abduction and assault case into a murder investigation, with police now attempting to trace two people named in her mother’s complaint.
Kaur had spent weeks in hospital after suffering serious burn injuries. She died in Chandigarh after being moved through multiple medical facilities for treatment.
Her mother, Kanta Devi, has accused two acquaintances of Kaur, identified as Shubhi and Pinda, of being behind the incident.
According to the complaint, the alleged crime began after Kaur was called to a location near a liquor outlet in Chandigarh’s Sector 34 on July 3.
The family claims that Kaur was taken away from Chandigarh and transported to Morinda in Punjab. Devi has alleged that her daughter was attacked there and later set ablaze after being restrained.
According to the family, Kaur might not have survived the initial attack but for the intervention of a friend, who reportedly reached the location, saw her on fire and managed to extinguish the flames before arranging medical help.
She was first taken to a hospital in Morinda. Her condition later required her transfer to a private hospital in Mohali, followed by treatment at PGIMER in Chandigarh, where she was admitted on July 9.
After almost a month of treatment, Kaur regained consciousness on August 5. This period has become a major point of dispute between her family and the police.
Devi has alleged that her daughter wanted to tell investigators what had happened to her but that her statement was never recorded.
The family claims police were informed after Kaur regained consciousness, yet investigators did not arrive at the hospital in time.
The mother has specifically questioned the response of Assistant Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh, who was associated with the investigation.
The family believes Kaur’s own account could have provided investigators with crucial information before her death.
Police have disputed allegations of inaction.
Kharar DSP Ishan Singla said the Kharar police had assisted Kaur’s mother but pointed out that the location where the alleged offence occurred fell within Chandigarh Police jurisdiction.
According to him, the local police helped the complainant reach the appropriate authorities and facilitated the registration of the FIR.
Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said police had registered a case involving kidnapping and murder following the complaint filed by the deceased woman’s mother.
Investigators are now focusing on establishing the route and timeline of the alleged crime.
CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined from the Sector 34 area of Chandigarh to Morinda in Punjab as police search for the accused and attempt to piece together the events that preceded Kaur’s death.

चंडीगढ़ पुलिस अब इस मामले में दो संदिग्धों की तलाश कर रही है।
मंजीत कौर ने 26 अगस्त को चंडीगढ़ में इलाज के दौरान अंतिम सांस ली। गंभीर रूप से झुलसने के बाद वह लंबे समय तक अस्पताल में भर्ती रहीं और उपचार के दौरान उन्हें एक से अधिक अस्पतालों में स्थानांतरित किया गया।
मृतका की मां कांता देवी ने शुभी और पिंडा नाम के दो लोगों पर गंभीर आरोप लगाए हैं। उनका कहना है कि 3 जुलाई को दोनों ने मंजीत को चंडीगढ़ के सेक्टर-34 इलाके में एक शराब की दुकान के पास बुलाया था।
शिकायत के अनुसार, इसके बाद मंजीत को कार से पंजाब के मोरिंडा ले जाया गया। मां का आरोप है कि वहां उनकी बेटी पर हमला किया गया और बाद में उसे बांधकर आग लगा दी गई।
परिवार का कहना है कि मंजीत की एक दोस्त समय रहते वहां पहुंच गई। उसने कथित तौर पर आग बुझाने की कोशिश की और मंजीत को इलाज के लिए अस्पताल पहुंचाया।
प्रारंभिक उपचार मोरिंडा में हुआ, जिसके बाद उन्हें मोहाली के एक अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। 9 जुलाई को उनकी हालत को देखते हुए उन्हें चंडीगढ़ के पीजीआईएमईआर भेजा गया।
करीब एक महीने बाद 5 अगस्त को मंजीत को होश आया। परिवार का कहना है कि यही वह समय था जब वह पुलिस को घटना के बारे में जानकारी देना चाहती थीं।
कांता देवी ने आरोप लगाया कि पुलिस को सूचना दिए जाने के बाद भी मंजीत का बयान समय रहते दर्ज नहीं किया गया। उन्होंने जांच से जुड़े सहायक उपनिरीक्षक लखविंदर सिंह की भूमिका पर भी सवाल उठाए हैं।
परिवार का मानना है कि यदि मंजीत का बयान दर्ज हो जाता तो जांच की दिशा तय करने में पुलिस को महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी मिल सकती थी।
हालांकि, पुलिस ने लापरवाही के आरोपों को स्वीकार नहीं किया है।
खरड़ के डीएसपी ईशान सिंगला ने कहा कि जिस स्थान पर कथित अपराध हुआ, वह चंडीगढ़ पुलिस के अधिकार क्षेत्र में आता है।
उन्होंने कहा कि खरड़ पुलिस ने मंजीत की मां को आवश्यक सहयोग दिया और उन्हें संबंधित थाने तक पहुंचाने के साथ प्राथमिकी दर्ज कराने की प्रक्रिया में मदद की।
चंडीगढ़ की एसएसपी कंवरदीप कौर के अनुसार, मृतका की मां की शिकायत पर अपहरण और हत्या से संबंधित मामला दर्ज कर लिया गया है।
अब जांच का मुख्य फोकस घटना से पहले और बाद की गतिविधियों को जोड़ना है।
पुलिस चंडीगढ़ के सेक्टर-34 से पंजाब के मोरिंडा तक के संभावित सफर से जुड़े सीसीटीवी कैमरों की फुटेज और अन्य सबूतों की जांच कर रही है।
आरोपियों की तलाश के साथ-साथ जांच अधिकारी इस बात की भी कड़ी जोड़ने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं कि मंजीत कौर के अस्पताल पहुंचने से पहले कथित तौर पर उनके साथ क्या हुआ था।
