In a heart-wrenching incident, a 50-year-old man bereft of his wife committed suicide with his four daughters who were all disabled. The shattering incident took place in Rangpuri village in Delhi.
The incident came to light when a foul smell emanating from the house alerted some residents who rang up the police.
Police said 50-year-old Heeralal hailing from Bihar lived in a rented accommodation with his four disabled daughters. He was working as a carpenter and looked after the four daughters with no help from outside.
Police had to break open the door only to find the bodies in a highly decomposed state. Heera Lal lay dead on a cot while his four daughters Neetu 18, Nishi 15, Neeru 10, and Nidhi 8 were found dead together in another room.
According to the neighbors, the family had not been spotted for several days but this fact had not alarmed them. What caused the suspicion was the foul smell that had started coming from the house.
Police informed, Joginder the elder brother of Heera Lal who also lives in Delhi.
This family from Bihar had settled down in Delhi several years ago. Heera Lal was a mild-natured man and he kept himself busy in his work and in looking after his daughters who could not walk.
Heera Lal’s wife had died several years ago. Police could not find any suicide note in the house but said the family had committed.
suicide by consuming sulphas tablets which kill a person within a short time.
Police and neighbors feel that Heera Lal was worried about the fate of his disabled daughters and the thought of their future could have prompted him to take this extreme step to save his daughters from living a life full of miseries.
However, police investigation is still on to find out the actual cause behind this mass suicide.
