Painful indeed :Suicide note of St Mary’s Girls Convent student filed in high court as ‘letter petition’. The ninth class student has held the school responsible behind her extreme step. The letter calls upon authorities to get the school closed because of extreme anxiety and stress it causes to students.
A letter petition has been moved before the Allahabad High Court seeking CBI probe into recent suicide case of a girl student of St Mary’s Convent School, Prayagraj. In her suicide note the girl, who was a student of 9th class had held the school responsible for it and had sought closure of this school.
The letter petition sent by one Gaurav Dwivedi, an advocate, has also sought suspension of principal of the principal of St Mary’s School, located at Thornhill Road. He has also requested the court to direct district magistrate, Prayagraj to file his personal affidavit regarding the steps taken to check the harassment committed by private institutions on minors. Last but not the least, the petitioner has also requested the court to direct the state government to issue a circular appointing psychological counsellor in every school and college, whether they are of government or private one.
According to petitioner, a news-item was published in newspaper on October 28, 2024 regarding suicide of a student of 9th class of St Mary’s School of Prayagraj. In her suicide note, the girl had reportedly held her school responsible for it, and had also sought closure of this school.
In this backdrop, the petitioner has requested the chief justice to treat this letter as public interest litigation (PIL), as according to him, the entire incident discloses the level of harassment and resultant stressful academic environment in the school, as a result the students are in the grip of performance anxiety, leading to the painful incident like the present one.
