MUMBAI: The Race franchise could be heading for its most ambitious makeover yet, with producer Ramesh Taurani exploring a new version of the action-thriller that could bring together Aamir Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff.
The proposed project is being developed as a fresh theatrical spectacle rather than another chapter in the franchise’s earlier storyline.
According to industry sources, discussions with the three actors have progressed, although the makers have not formally announced the cast.
Aamir Khan is understood to have gone through the script and shown interest in the material.
Sources also indicate that the actor has been involved in discussions surrounding the screenplay, with further work being undertaken to shape the story and characters.
If the discussions translate into a final deal, Aamir’s entry would give the franchise a very different star profile from its earlier films.
A new combination for the franchise
The proposed casting brings together three actors associated with distinctly different screen personas.
Aamir is known for his selective film choices and character-driven performances, while Sidharth has frequently appeared in action-oriented and dramatic roles.
Tiger, meanwhile, has built a strong identity around physically demanding action performances.
The combination is therefore expected to give the film a three-protagonist structure in which action, suspense and star appeal play major roles.
Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff have reportedly also heard the script and expressed interest. Their possible involvement remains subject to further discussions and the finalisation of the screenplay.
Vijay Krishna Acharya to direct
Filmmaker Vijay Krishna Acharya is attached to helm the project. His previous collaborations with Aamir Khan include Dhoom 3 and Thugs of Hindostan.
His association with the proposed reboot suggests that the makers are considering a visually expansive action thriller designed for theatrical audiences.
The project is still being developed, and the screenplay is reportedly undergoing further work before production plans are locked.
Why the reboot matters
The original Race films established a formula built around glamour, betrayal, action and shifting loyalties. Saif Ali Khan led the first two films, while Salman Khan took over the central role in Race 3.
The proposed reboot appears to be moving away from that continuity. Rather than extending the earlier storyline, the makers are considering a new cast and a fresh narrative identity.
The change also represents a shift from previous casting discussions. Taurani had earlier spoken about talks involving Saif Ali Khan and Sidharth Malhotra for a possible Race 4.
The latest developments, however, indicate that the project may now be heading in a substantially different direction.
For the moment, the film remains in the development phase.
There is no official confirmation of the final cast, shooting schedule or release date.

निर्माता रमेश तौरानी इस बार फिल्म को नए कलाकारों और नए ट्रीटमेंट के साथ आगे बढ़ाने की तैयारी में हैं।
इंडस्ट्री से जुड़े सूत्रों के मुताबिक, आमिर खान को प्रोजेक्ट में मुख्य भूमिका के लिए संपर्क किया गया है, जबकि सिद्धार्थ मल्होत्रा और टाइगर श्रॉफ के नाम भी अहम किरदारों के लिए चर्चा में हैं।
बताया जा रहा है कि आमिर खान ने फिल्म की स्क्रिप्ट सुनी है और कहानी को लेकर सकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया दी है। सूत्रों के अनुसार, अभिनेता स्क्रीनप्ले को और मजबूत बनाने से जुड़ी रचनात्मक चर्चाओं में भी शामिल हैं।

जहां आमिर अपनी चुनिंदा फिल्मों और किरदारों के लिए जाने जाते हैं, वहीं सिद्धार्थ ने एक्शन और ड्रामा दोनों तरह की फिल्मों में काम किया है।
टाइगर की पहचान खास तौर पर हाई-एनर्जी एक्शन और स्टंट आधारित भूमिकाओं से बनी है।
ऐसे में तीनों को एक साथ लाने की योजना फिल्म को मल्टी-स्टार एक्शन थ्रिलर का रूप दे सकती है। माना जा रहा है कि कहानी में तीन प्रमुख किरदारों के इर्द-गिर्द तनाव, एक्शन और सस्पेंस को विकसित किया जाएगा।
सूत्रों के मुताबिक, सिद्धार्थ और टाइगर भी स्क्रिप्ट सुन चुके हैं और उन्होंने प्रोजेक्ट में दिलचस्पी दिखाई है। हालांकि, दोनों की भागीदारी भी अभी बातचीत के स्तर पर ही है।
विजय कृष्ण आचार्य के हाथ में निर्देशन
फिल्म के निर्देशन की जिम्मेदारी विजय कृष्ण आचार्य को दिए जाने की चर्चा है। आचार्य इससे पहले आमिर खान के साथ धूम 3 और ठग्स ऑफ हिंदोस्तान में काम कर चुके हैं।
उनके जुड़ने से संकेत मिलता है कि निर्माता इस बार ‘रेस’ को बड़े पैमाने पर तैयार करने की दिशा में सोच रहे हैं। फिल्म को थिएटर-केंद्रित एक्शन थ्रिलर के रूप में विकसित किए जाने की योजना है।
हालांकि, कहानी और पटकथा पर अभी काम जारी बताया जा रहा है। इसलिए प्रोजेक्ट का अंतिम स्वरूप आने वाले दौर में बदल भी सकता है।
पिछली ‘रेस’ फिल्मों से कितना अलग होगा नया प्रोजेक्ट?
‘रेस’ फ्रेंचाइजी की पहचान अब तक तेज रफ्तार कहानी, धोखे, बदलते समीकरण और एक्शन से बनी रही है। पहली दो फिल्मों में सैफ अली खान प्रमुख भूमिका में थे, जबकि रेस 3 में सलमान खान ने मुख्य भूमिका संभाली थी।
नई योजना उस स्थापित सिलसिले को आगे बढ़ाने के बजाय फ्रेंचाइजी को नए सिरे से गढ़ने की ओर इशारा करती है।
यानी पिछली फिल्मों की कहानी को सीधे जारी रखने के बजाय नए किरदारों और अलग कथा के साथ दर्शकों के सामने आने की कोशिश हो सकती है।
यह बदलाव इसलिए भी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि रमेश तौरानी पहले सैफ अली खान और सिद्धार्थ मल्होत्रा के साथ संभावित रेस 4 को लेकर बातचीत की पुष्टि कर चुके थे।
अब आमिर खान के संभावित जुड़ाव और टाइगर श्रॉफ के नाम की चर्चा से परियोजना की दिशा में बड़ा बदलाव दिखाई दे रहा है।
फिलहाल ‘रेस’ का यह नया संस्करण आधिकारिक कास्ट और प्रोडक्शन प्लान के ऐलान से दूर है।
इसलिए आमिर, सिद्धार्थ और टाइगर की भागीदारी को लेकर अंतिम तस्वीर निर्माताओं की औपचारिक घोषणा के बाद ही साफ होगी।
