However, there was no independent evidence that the island had come under attack, and the footage was found to have likely been generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence.
Trump shared the video on Truth Social with a brief message declaring that Kharg Island was being “blown to smithereens”.
He offered no details about an alleged military operation against the island.
A US official later said American forces had not targeted Kharg Island in the overnight strikes, further casting doubt on the claim.
The episode came amid a fresh round of military confrontation between the United States and Iran.
On Sunday, US forces struck two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first known American military action against Iran since late July.
Washington said the launchers were linked to Iranian preparations involving sea mines.
Tehran subsequently responded with missile attacks on US military facilities in Jordan, according to Iranian reports.
Most of the incoming missiles were intercepted, and the exchange added to fears that the conflict could widen across the Gulf region.
Why Kharg Island Matters
Kharg is not an ordinary military target.
The island is Iran’s principal oil-export terminal and has long played a central role in the country’s energy trade.

Bessent has indicated that institutions could face exclusion from the US dollar financial system if they continue facilitating Iranian transactions.
The latest measures follow US action against the UAE branches of Egypt’s Banque Misr over alleged financial links to Iran.
The sanctions campaign represents a broader attempt by Washington to squeeze Iran economically while military tensions remain high.
Earlier this month, Bessent described the administration’s planned measures as among the toughest economic restrictions ever imposed on a country.
