Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad Splits into Two Factions Ahead of Haridwar Kumbh
The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, the apex body representing India’s akharas, has split into two separate factions ahead of the Haridwar Kumbh, with both groups announcing their own eight-member executive committees.
The development has brought long-standing differences within the organisation into the open and sparked fresh debate over its leadership.
Mahant Ravindra Puri, who heads one faction of the Akhara Parishad, said the newly constituted executive committee would work to preserve the unity of the saint community, protect the traditions of the akharas and strengthen arrangements related to religious events.
He maintained that the committee would focus on collective coordination and the welfare of the organisation.
According to Ravindra Puri, the Akhara Parishad serves as the country’s highest representative body of saints and akharas.
He added that efforts are continuously being made to expand communication and coordination among all akharas across the country.
The newly announced executive has been formed with that objective in mind.
The division within the Parishad stems from an ongoing leadership dispute that has continued for some time. While one faction is led by Mahant Ravindra Puri, the other is headed by Mahant Hari Giri.
Both groups claim to have the backing of a majority of the akharas and insist that their respective executive committees have been constituted in accordance with organisational norms.
The disagreement over leadership resurfaced once again after separate announcements regarding the Akhara Parishad elections.
Questioning the legitimacy of the election conducted by the rival camp, Mahant Hari Giri, president of the Panchayati Mahanirvani Akhara, argued that the election process should have been preceded by a formal notification.
He also claimed that only seven akharas had participated in the process, whereas all 13 recognised akharas should have been involved for the election to be considered valid.
According to him, excluding several prominent akharas from the process raises serious questions over its legitimacy.

अखिल भारतीय अखाड़ा परिषद, जो देश के अखाड़ों की सर्वोच्च प्रतिनिधि संस्था मानी जाती है, हरिद्वार कुंभ से पहले दो गुटों में विभाजित हो गई है। दोनों पक्षों ने अपनी-अपनी आठ सदस्यीय कार्यकारिणी की घोषणा कर दी है। इस घटनाक्रम ने परिषद के भीतर लंबे समय से चल रहे नेतृत्व विवाद को एक बार फिर सार्वजनिक चर्चा का विषय बना दिया है।
एक गुट का नेतृत्व कर रहे महंत रवींद्र पुरी ने कहा कि नई कार्यकारिणी का उद्देश्य संत समाज की एकता बनाए रखना, अखाड़ों की परंपराओं की रक्षा करना तथा धार्मिक आयोजनों की व्यवस्थाओं को और मजबूत बनाना होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि समिति संगठन के सामूहिक समन्वय और संत समाज के हितों को प्राथमिकता देकर कार्य करेगी।
महंत रवींद्र पुरी के अनुसार अखाड़ा परिषद देशभर के संतों और अखाड़ों की सर्वोच्च प्रतिनिधि संस्था है। उन्होंने कहा कि विभिन्न अखाड़ों के बीच संवाद और समन्वय को मजबूत करने के लिए लगातार प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं और इसी सोच के तहत नई कार्यकारिणी का गठन किया गया है।
परिषद के भीतर यह विभाजन लंबे समय से चले आ रहे नेतृत्व विवाद का परिणाम माना जा रहा है। एक ओर संगठन का नेतृत्व महंत रवींद्र पुरी कर रहे हैं, जबकि दूसरे गुट का नेतृत्व महंत हरि गिरि के हाथ में है। दोनों पक्ष दावा कर रहे हैं कि उन्हें अधिकांश अखाड़ों का समर्थन प्राप्त है और उनकी कार्यकारिणी संगठनात्मक नियमों के अनुरूप गठित की गई है।
नेतृत्व को लेकर मतभेद उस समय फिर सामने आ गए जब दोनों पक्षों ने परिषद के चुनाव को लेकर अलग-अलग दावे किए। पंचायती महानिर्वाणी अखाड़ा के अध्यक्ष महंत हरि गिरि ने प्रतिद्वंद्वी गुट की चुनाव प्रक्रिया पर सवाल उठाते हुए कहा कि चुनाव से पहले औपचारिक अधिसूचना जारी की जानी चाहिए थी। उनका यह भी कहना है कि चुनाव में केवल सात अखाड़ों की भागीदारी रही, जबकि वैध चुनाव के लिए सभी 13 मान्यता प्राप्त अखाड़ों की सहभागिता आवश्यक थी। उनके अनुसार कई प्रमुख अखाड़ों की अनुपस्थिति चुनाव प्रक्रिया की वैधता पर गंभीर प्रश्न खड़े करती है।
