The news of the rape and murder of a post graduate trainee doctor at a hospital in Kolkata has sent shock waves amongst the medical fraternity in the country. Doctors have threatened a countrywide strike against this heinous crime against a lady colleague on the premises of a government hospital.

The incident took place at RG Kar Medical College Kolkata.
However, police tracked the murderer, a civic volunteer not officially associated with the said hospital. But he was known as a frequent visitor to this hospital. The rape was committed in the seminar hall last Thursday night.
According to police, the rapist and the murderer returned to his residence after committing the crime. He slept until late Friday morning and after leaving the bed washed his clothes to destroy the evidence. But police found blood stains on his shoes during the search.
Police is awaiting the final autopsy report to determine if others were involved in this grisly crime which has kickstarted a wave of anger and resentment amongst doctors across the country.
Police is carrying out its probe. They are trying to find out who all were on duty Thursday night. They all will be questioned to go deeper into this case.
As per media reports the SIT and forensic teams have collected samples from the seminar hall. They have reconstructed the crime scene without the presence of the accused to know how things could have happened.
For the time being junior doctors and other medical staff are on state-wide strike in West Bengal.
Efforts are being made to crack the case to the satisfaction of doctors in west Bengal in order to prevent further resentment and anger amongst doctors in the country.
Meanwhile, CM Mamta Banerjee has directed that the case be fully solved. The perpetrator of the crime would get capital punishment, said the CM.
