Ayodhya Ram Temple Theft Case: Police Seize Accused Avinash Shukla’s Car, Probe Money Trail and Asset Purchases
Ayodhya: The investigation into the alleged theft of cash from the Ram Temple has gathered pace, with Ayodhya Police on Friday seizing a car belonging to the main accused,
Avinash Shukla. Investigators suspect the vehicle was purchased using money allegedly siphoned off during the crime.
A senior police officer confirmed that the car has been taken into custody as part of the ongoing financial investigation.
During the course of the probe, police secured Avinash Shukla’s custody remand to further question him.
Officials believe his interrogation could help recover additional missing cash and establish the role of a vehicle that is suspected to have been used in connection with the alleged offence.
Investigators are also trying to reconstruct the movement of the accused before and after the theft.
Earlier searches at Shukla’s residence resulted in the recovery of ₹20.39 lakh in cash.
The seized amount included currency notes of ₹500, ₹200, ₹100, ₹50, ₹20 and ₹10, with more than 3,000 notes of ₹500 denomination making up the largest share.
Police also recovered 1,121 US dollars in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, and 1 dollars. His family has declined to comment on the allegations.
Back in his native village of Babpur Nariyawa in Pratapgarh, villagers expressed surprise over the developments. Village Pradhan Raju Yadav said the Shukla family traditionally depended on farming and also operated a small paan shop.
According to him, Avinash shifted to Ayodhya around two years ago and returned to the village only occasionally, usually driving a recently purchased second-hand car.
He also noted that renovation work had been underway at the family’s house for the past few months.
Residents said Avinash is one of four brothers and had earlier worked at a shop in Pratapgarh before relocating to Ayodhya with the assistance of an acquaintance.
As several members of the family were earning, neighbours believed their financial condition had improved naturally and did not suspect anything unusual.
Investigators have repeatedly visited the family’s home, including the latest search conducted on Thursday.
Police questioned Avinash’s parents and gathered details about the family’s assets and property holdings.
Officials believe further questioning of the accused may reveal additional leads, as several recoveries made so far were allegedly based on information provided during the investigation.
Police are also examining whether a portion of the allegedly stolen money was used to purchase jewellery or other valuable assets.
Financial transactions linked to the accused are being scrutinised to identify any additional acquisitions made after the alleged theft.
Apart from Avinash Shukla, the other accused arrested in the case are Lavkush Mishra, Anukalp Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav, and Subhash Srivastav.
So far, police have recovered ₹79.80 lakh from seven of the eight arrested accused, while the investigation into the remaining amount continues.

अयोध्या: राम मंदिर से कथित नकदी चोरी के मामले की जांच लगातार आगे बढ़ रही है। शुक्रवार को अयोध्या पुलिस ने मुख्य आरोपी अविनाश शुक्ला की कार जब्त कर ली। जांच अधिकारियों को संदेह है कि यह वाहन कथित चोरी की रकम से खरीदा गया था।
एक वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारी ने बताया कि कार को साक्ष्य के तौर पर कब्जे में लेकर उसके वित्तीय स्रोतों की जांच की जा रही है।
जांच को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए पुलिस ने अविनाश शुक्ला को रिमांड पर लेकर पूछताछ शुरू की है। अधिकारियों का मानना है कि उससे पूछताछ के दौरान चोरी की बाकी रकम बरामद करने और मामले में इस्तेमाल किए गए संदिग्ध वाहन के बारे में महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी मिल सकती है। पुलिस घटना से पहले और बाद में उसकी गतिविधियों की भी पड़ताल कर रही है।
इससे पहले आरोपी के घर पर हुई तलाशी में पुलिस ने 20.39 लाख रुपये नकद बरामद किए थे। बरामद राशि में ₹500, ₹200, ₹100, ₹50, ₹20 और ₹10 के नोट शामिल थे, जिनमें सबसे अधिक ₹500 के 3,000 से ज्यादा नोट मिले।
इसके अलावा 1,121 अमेरिकी डॉलर भी बरामद किए गए, जिनमें 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 और 1 डॉलर के नोट शामिल थे। मामले पर आरोपी के परिवार ने कोई टिप्पणी करने से इनकार किया है।
प्रतापगढ़ के बाबपुर नरियावा गांव में इस घटनाक्रम ने लोगों को हैरान कर दिया है। ग्राम प्रधान राजू यादव ने बताया कि शुक्ला परिवार वर्षों से खेती-किसानी करता रहा है और गांव में एक छोटी पान की दुकान भी चलाता है।
उनके अनुसार अविनाश करीब दो वर्ष पहले अयोध्या चला गया था और कभी-कभार ही गांव आता था। हाल के दिनों में वह एक पुरानी कार से गांव आता था और परिवार के मकान में भी पिछले कुछ महीनों से मरम्मत का काम चल रहा था।
गांव के लोगों का कहना है कि अविनाश चार भाइयों में से एक है। अयोध्या जाने से पहले वह प्रतापगढ़ में एक दुकान पर काम करता था और बाद में एक परिचित की मदद से अयोध्या में रहने लगा। परिवार के कई सदस्य कमाने लगे थे, इसलिए ग्रामीणों को लगा कि उनकी आर्थिक स्थिति सामान्य रूप से बेहतर हुई है।
पुलिस ने जांच के दौरान कई बार आरोपी के घर पहुंचकर उसके माता-पिता से पूछताछ की है और परिवार की चल-अचल संपत्तियों की जानकारी जुटाई है।
अधिकारियों का कहना है कि अब तक हुई कई बरामदगियां आरोपी से मिली जानकारी के आधार पर हुई हैं, इसलिए उससे आगे की पूछताछ में और महत्वपूर्ण सुराग मिलने की उम्मीद है।
जांच एजेंसियां इस पहलू की भी पड़ताल कर रही हैं कि कहीं कथित चोरी की रकम का इस्तेमाल आभूषण या अन्य कीमती सामान खरीदने में तो नहीं किया गया। आरोपी से जुड़े वित्तीय लेन-देन और हाल में की गई खरीदारी की भी जांच की जा रही है।
इस मामले में अविनाश शुक्ला के अलावा लवकुश मिश्रा, अनुकल्प मिश्रा, मनीष कुमार यादव, करुणेश पांडेय, रामाशंकर मिश्रा, राम शंकर यादव उर्फ टिन्नू यादव और सुभाष श्रीवास्तव को भी गिरफ्तार किया जा चुका है।
पुलिस अब तक आठ में से सात आरोपियों से कुल 79.80 लाख रुपये बरामद कर चुकी है, जबकि शेष रकम की तलाश और मामले की विस्तृत जांच अभी जारी है।
