Baghpat Temple Double Murder: Two Men Found Buried Under Temple Tiles, Priest and Minor Son Absconding

Ankit and his friend Israr had gone to confront the priest over an alleged relationship with Ankit’s younger sister; police say sedatives may have been used before the victims were allegedly killed and buried inside the temple premises.

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: A missing-person investigation in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat has turned into a suspected double-murder case after police recovered the bodies of two men from beneath the tiled floor of a village temple, several days after they disappeared.

The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Ankit and his 36-year-old friend Israr.

Police suspect that the temple priest, whom Ankit had allegedly confronted over his relationship with Ankit’s younger sister, was behind the killings.

The priest and his 14-year-old son are currently absconding, while two disciples of the priest have been arrested and questioned in connection with the case, according to Rakesh Kumar Pundir, Station House Officer of Chandi Nagar police station.

Men disappeared after going to temple

According to police, Ankit and Israr went to the temple in their village on July 25. Ankit was reportedly angry with the priest and had previously warned him to stay away from his younger sister.

The two men did not return home that day.

Their families spent the next several days trying to establish their whereabouts.

Police said the relatives also questioned the priest about the missing men, but he allegedly denied knowing anything about their disappearance.

A missing-person complaint was eventually lodged on July 29.

The investigation initially focused on CCTV recordings and mobile phone data. Police said repeated examination of footage failed to show either man leaving the village.

Their last known mobile-phone locations, meanwhile, continued to point to the temple premises.

CCTV and phone records deepen suspicion

Police teams searched the temple several times but initially failed to find any evidence indicating where the men had gone.

Investigators later began using local informers to gather information about activities at the temple and people connected with the priest.

According to the SHO, this eventually led investigators to information suggesting that the priest knew more about the disappearance than he had disclosed.

A police team went to the temple on Wednesday night, but the priest and his teenage son allegedly fled before they could be detained.

Two of the priest’s disciples were found at the premises and were taken into custody for questioning.

Police said the questioning eventually led investigators to a concealed portion of the temple floor.

Bodies recovered from beneath interlocking tiles

The two disciples allegedly told police that Ankit and Israr had been killed inside the temple and buried beneath the tiled surface.

A police team subsequently dug up the identified location. The bodies of the two missing men were found several feet below the interlocking tiles.

The recovery transformed the case from a missing-person investigation into a suspected double homicide.

Police are now awaiting post-mortem examination reports to determine precisely how the two men died.

Sedative-laced tea among allegations

According to the account allegedly given by the arrested disciples, Ankit had gone to the temple intending to confront the priest. Police said the priest and his associates allegedly persuaded the two men to enter a room on the pretext of resolving the dispute.

The disciples reportedly told investigators that tea containing sedative tablets was then served to Ankit and Israr.

After the two men allegedly became unconscious, the priest is accused of administering injections to them.

Police said the disciples further alleged that the priest, his son and the two disciples dug a pit beneath the temple floor and placed the victims’ bodies there before restoring the tiles.

The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the exact cause of death will be established only after the post-mortem examination.

Police also alleged that the priest continued lighting lamps at the spot where the bodies had been buried, apparently to prevent suspicion from falling on the concealed grave.

Israr helped Ankit because of his physical disability

Police said Ankit had been physically disabled since birth and was unable to move his lower body.

Israr was described as his close friend and was known to help him travel. According to police, Israr would take Ankit to different places on his motorcycle.

Their disappearance therefore prompted concern among their families, who continued seeking information about them before filing the missing-person report.

The investigation is continuing, with police teams searching for the absconding priest and his son.

The post-mortem findings and further questioning of the arrested disciples are expected to provide more information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

छोटी बहन से कथित संबंध को लेकर पुजारी से भिड़ने मंदिर पहुंचे थे अंकित और इसरार; पुलिस ने दो शिष्यों को गिरफ्तार किया, पोस्टमार्टम रिपोर्ट से मौत की वजह साफ होगी

बागपत, उत्तर प्रदेश: उत्तर प्रदेश के बागपत में दो युवकों के लापता होने का मामला सनसनीखेज दोहरे हत्याकांड में बदल गया है।

पुलिस ने मंदिर परिसर में इंटरलॉकिंग टाइल्स के नीचे कई फीट गहराई में दबे दो शव बरामद किए हैं। दोनों की पहचान 27 वर्षीय अंकित और उसके 36 वर्षीय दोस्त इसरार के रूप में हुई है।

पुलिस के मुताबिक, अंकित को संदेह था कि गांव के मंदिर का पुजारी उसकी छोटी बहन के साथ कथित रूप से संबंध में था।

इसी बात को लेकर वह पहले भी पुजारी को चेतावनी दे चुका था। 25 जुलाई को अंकित और इसरार पुजारी से बात करने मंदिर पहुंचे थे, लेकिन इसके बाद दोनों घर नहीं लौटे।

चांदीनगर थाना प्रभारी राकेश कुमार पुंडीर के अनुसार, मामले में पुजारी को मुख्य आरोपी माना जा रहा है।

पुजारी और उसका 14 वर्षीय बेटा फरार हैं। पुलिस ने पुजारी के दो शिष्यों को गिरफ्तार किया है और उनसे पूछताछ के आधार पर मंदिर परिसर से शव बरामद किए गए।

25 जुलाई को मंदिर गए, फिर नहीं लौटे

पुलिस के अनुसार, अंकित और इसरार 25 जुलाई को गांव के मंदिर गए थे। अंकित कथित तौर पर पुजारी से अपनी बहन के साथ उसके संबंध को लेकर नाराज था और उसे पहले भी ऐसा रिश्ता खत्म करने की चेतावनी दे चुका था।

दोनों के वापस नहीं लौटने पर परिवार के लोगों ने उनकी तलाश शुरू की। परिजनों ने पुजारी से भी दोनों के बारे में जानकारी मांगी, लेकिन पुलिस के अनुसार उसने किसी जानकारी से इनकार किया।

चार दिन तक तलाश के बाद 29 जुलाई को दोनों के लापता होने की शिकायत पुलिस में दर्ज कराई गई।

मोबाइल लोकेशन मंदिर पर मिली, CCTV में बाहर जाते नहीं दिखे

जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने इलाके के CCTV कैमरों की फुटेज कई बार खंगाली। साथ ही दोनों युवकों के मोबाइल फोन के कॉल डिटेल रिकॉर्ड और उनकी आखिरी लोकेशन की भी जांच की गई।

पुलिस के मुताबिक, CCTV फुटेज में दोनों को गांव से बाहर जाते हुए नहीं देखा गया। दूसरी ओर, उनके मोबाइल फोन की आखिरी लोकेशन मंदिर परिसर के आसपास ही मिली।

पुलिस ने मंदिर की कई बार तलाशी ली, लेकिन शुरुआत में ऐसा कोई सुराग नहीं मिला जिससे दोनों के ठिकाने का पता चल सके।

इसके बाद जांचकर्ताओं ने मंदिर से जुड़े लोगों और आसपास के इलाकों में मुखबिरों के जरिए जानकारी जुटानी शुरू की।

पुजारी के फरार होने के बाद दो शिष्यों से पूछताछ

थाना प्रभारी के मुताबिक, जांच के दौरान पुलिस को संकेत मिले कि पुजारी को दोनों युवकों के बारे में जानकारी थी।

बुधवार रात पुलिस टीम मंदिर पहुंची, लेकिन पुलिस के पहुंचने से पहले ही पुजारी और उसका 14 वर्षीय बेटा कथित रूप से वहां से फरार हो गए।

मंदिर में मौजूद पुजारी के दो शिष्यों को पुलिस ने हिरासत में लेकर पूछताछ की।

पुलिस का कहना है कि पूछताछ के दौरान दोनों शिष्यों ने कथित हत्या और शव छिपाने से जुड़ी जानकारी दी। उनके बताए स्थान पर खुदाई कराई गई तो मंदिर की इंटरलॉकिंग टाइल्स के नीचे दोनों युवकों के शव बरामद हुए।

चाय में नशीली गोलियां मिलाने का आरोप

पुलिस के अनुसार, गिरफ्तार शिष्यों ने पूछताछ में दावा किया कि अंकित पुजारी को चेतावनी देने के इरादे से मंदिर पहुंचा था। आरोप है कि पुजारी ने दोनों को समझाने-बुझाने के बहाने मंदिर के एक कमरे में बुलाया।

शिष्यों के कथित बयान के मुताबिक, दोनों को ऐसी चाय दी गई जिसमें नशीली गोलियां मिली हुई थीं। पुलिस का कहना है कि करीब एक घंटे बाद दोनों के बेहोश होने के बाद पुजारी ने कथित तौर पर उन्हें कोई इंजेक्शन लगाया।

इसके बाद पुजारी, उसका बेटा और उसके शिष्यों ने कथित रूप से मंदिर की टाइल्स के नीचे जमीन खोदी और दोनों शवों को वहां दफना दिया। बाद में ऊपर से टाइल्स फिर लगा दी गईं।

पुलिस ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि शक से बचने के लिए पुजारी उस स्थान पर नियमित रूप से दीपक जलाता था।

अंकित चलने-फिरने में असमर्थ था

पुलिस के अनुसार, अंकित जन्म से ही शारीरिक रूप से दिव्यांग था और उसके शरीर का निचला हिस्सा काम नहीं करता था। इसरार उसका करीबी दोस्त था और उसे आने-जाने में मदद करता था।

पुलिस ने बताया कि इसरार अक्सर मोटरसाइकिल से अंकित को जहां जाना होता था, वहां लेकर जाता था। दोनों के अचानक गायब होने के बाद परिवारों की चिंता बढ़ गई थी।

फिलहाल पुलिस पुजारी और उसके नाबालिग बेटे की तलाश कर रही है। गिरफ्तार किए गए दोनों शिष्यों से पूछताछ जारी है।

पुलिस ने कहा है कि शवों के पोस्टमार्टम की रिपोर्ट का इंतजार किया जा रहा है। इससे यह स्पष्ट होने में मदद मिलेगी कि अंकित और इसरार की मौत किस वजह से हुई।

मामले में सामने आए आरोपों की अंतिम पुष्टि जांच और न्यायिक प्रक्रिया के बाद ही होगी।
