‘Batwara 1947’ Trailer Unveiled: Sunny Deol Delivers Powerful Message of Humanity in Partition-Era Drama
The makers of Batwara 1947 have unveiled the official trailer of the much-awaited period drama, offering an emotionally charged glimpse into one of the darkest chapters of the Indian subcontinent’s history.
Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, the film explores how ordinary lives were torn apart by communal violence while underscoring the triumph of compassion over hatred.
The trailer opens with celebrations marking India’s Independence after decades of colonial rule.
The mood, however, quickly shifts as the joy of freedom gives way to the horrors of Partition.
Widespread bloodshed, fear, and large-scale displacement force families to abandon everything they once called home, transforming neighbours into refugees almost overnight.
At the centre of the story is Sunny Deol’s character, who, along with his wife, played by Preity Zinta, and their son, portrayed by Karan Deol, relocates to Pakistan during the upheaval.
After being allotted a new house in Lahore, the family is welcomed by Ali Fazal.
Their relief is short-lived when they discover that the upper floor of the house is still occupied by an elderly Hindu woman, played by Shabana Azmi, who refuses to leave the home where she has spent her life.
Despite mounting hostility from sections of the local community, the elderly woman continues to perform daily prayers at a small temple inside her room.
Her determination to remain in her ancestral home fuels tensions, with several people insisting that she must vacate the property.
As pressure on the woman intensifies, Sunny Deol’s character chooses to stand by her instead of joining the growing hostility.
He becomes her protector while also trying to keep his own family safe in an atmosphere charged with suspicion and violence.
One of the trailer’s most striking moments arrives when his character is questioned for defending a Hindu woman.
Responding with an emotional monologue, he says, “Hindu aurat? Woh Maa hai Maa! Maa ko Hindu-Muslim mein naa baatiye. Maa apne aap mein ek mazhab hai. Har insaan ka pehla mazhab Maa hai. Har insaan ke mooh se nikla pehla labz Maa hai.”
Through the dialogue, the film conveys the message that motherhood rises above every religious identity and represents humanity’s first and most universal bond.
The film also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the silver screen after an absence of more than five years.
Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman has scored the music, while the lyrics have been penned by veteran poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar.
Ahead of its release, the film received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts. Sunny Deol shared the development on his Instagram Stories, announcing that the film had been awarded an ‘A’ certificate.
In his message, the actor wrote, “We’re delighted that Batwara 1947 has been cleared by the CBFC without a single cut and awarded an A certificate.
A film about humanity and love. Watch it in theatres from this Partition Day, 14th August.”
Batwara 1947 also reunites the successful actor-director duo of Sunny Deol and Raj Kumar Santoshi, whose collaborations in classics such as Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak remain among the most celebrated films of the 1990s.
Sunny has expressed confidence that audiences have long awaited another collaboration between the two.
The Partition drama is scheduled to arrive in cinemas nationwide on August 14.

बहुप्रतीक्षित फिल्म ‘बंटवारा 1947’ का आधिकारिक ट्रेलर जारी कर दिया गया है। देश के विभाजन की पृष्ठभूमि पर आधारित यह फिल्म केवल इतिहास की एक दर्दनाक घटना को नहीं दिखाती, बल्कि नफरत और हिंसा के दौर में इंसानियत, संवेदनशीलता और रिश्तों की ताकत को भी प्रमुखता से सामने लाती है।
ट्रेलर की शुरुआत भारत की आजादी की खुशियों से होती है, लेकिन कुछ ही क्षणों में माहौल बदल जाता है।
आजादी का उत्सव देखते ही देखते विभाजन की भयावह त्रासदी में बदल जाता है, जहां सांप्रदायिक हिंसा, दहशत और बड़े पैमाने पर पलायन लाखों लोगों की जिंदगी को हमेशा के लिए बदल देता है।
जो लोग वर्षों तक साथ रहते थे, वे अचानक अपनी ही जमीन छोड़ने को मजबूर हो जाते हैं।
फिल्म में सनी देओल एक ऐसे मुस्लिम परिवार के मुखिया की भूमिका निभा रहे हैं जो पत्नी प्रीति जिंटा और बेटे करण देओल के साथ पाकिस्तान पहुंचता है।
उन्हें लाहौर में रहने के लिए एक मकान आवंटित किया जाता है, जहां अली फजल उनका स्वागत करते हैं।
लेकिन नए घर में पहुंचने के बाद उन्हें पता चलता है कि ऊपरी मंजिल पर एक बुजुर्ग हिंदू महिला अब भी रह रही है। शबाना आजमी द्वारा निभाया गया यह किरदार अपने पुश्तैनी घर को छोड़ने से साफ इनकार कर देता है।
बुजुर्ग महिला अपने कमरे में बने छोटे से मंदिर में नियमित पूजा करती रहती है। यही बात आसपास के कुछ लोगों को नागवार गुजरती है और उस पर घर खाली करने का दबाव लगातार बढ़ने लगता है। हालात धीरे-धीरे टकराव की ओर बढ़ने लगते हैं।
ऐसे कठिन समय में सनी देओल का किरदार भीड़ का साथ देने के बजाय उस बुजुर्ग महिला की सुरक्षा के लिए खड़ा हो जाता है।
एक ओर वह अपने परिवार को सुरक्षित रखने की कोशिश करता है, वहीं दूसरी ओर नफरत से घिरे माहौल में इंसानियत की मिसाल भी पेश करता है।
ट्रेलर का सबसे प्रभावशाली दृश्य तब सामने आता है जब उससे पूछा जाता है कि वह एक हिंदू महिला की रक्षा क्यों कर रहा है। इसके जवाब में वह भावुक संवाद बोलता है— “हिंदू औरत? वो मां है मां! मां को हिंदू-मुस्लिम में मत बांटिए।
मां अपने आप में एक मज़हब है। हर इंसान का पहला मज़हब मां है। हर इंसान के मुंह से निकला पहला लफ्ज़ मां है।” यह संवाद फिल्म के मूल संदेश को सामने लाता है कि मातृत्व किसी धर्म, जाति या सीमा से बड़ा होता है।
यह फिल्म प्रीति जिंटा की पांच वर्ष से अधिक समय बाद बड़े पर्दे पर वापसी भी है। फिल्म का संगीत ऑस्कर विजेता ए.आर. रहमान ने तैयार किया है, जबकि गीत प्रसिद्ध कवि और गीतकार जावेद अख्तर ने लिखे हैं।
रिलीज से पहले फिल्म को सेंट्रल बोर्ड ऑफ फिल्म सर्टिफिकेशन (CBFC) ने बिना किसी कट के मंजूरी दे दी है। सनी देओल ने सोमवार को अपने इंस्टाग्राम स्टोरी के जरिए इसकी जानकारी साझा करते हुए बताया कि फिल्म को ‘ए’ प्रमाणपत्र दिया गया है।
अभिनेता ने अपने संदेश में लिखा, “हमें खुशी है कि ‘बंटवारा 1947’ को सीबीएफसी ने बिना किसी कट के मंजूरी दी है और ‘ए’ सर्टिफिकेट प्रदान किया है। यह इंसानियत और प्रेम की कहानी है। इस विभाजन दिवस, 14 अगस्त से इसे सिनेमाघरों में देखें।”
यह फिल्म सनी देओल और निर्देशक राजकुमार संतोषी की चर्चित जोड़ी को भी एक बार फिर साथ लेकर आई है। इससे पहले दोनों ‘घायल’, ‘दामिनी’ और ‘घातक’ जैसी यादगार फिल्मों में साथ काम कर चुके हैं।
सनी देओल का मानना है कि दर्शक लंबे समय से उनकी इस सफल जोड़ी की वापसी का इंतजार कर रहे थे।
‘बंटवारा 1947’ स्वतंत्रता दिवस की पूर्व संध्या पर 14 अगस्त को देशभर के सिनेमाघरों में रिलीज होगी।
