A Bhopal businessman allegedly abducted after arriving in Kolkata was rescued within three hours after his family approached the airport police. Three suspects were detained and an SUV seized.

Police traced the phones of the alleged kidnappers and used a ransom-payment meeting on VIP Road to trap the suspects; an SUV was also seized.

KOLKATA: A ransom demand helped Kolkata Police turn the tables on an alleged kidnapping gang, with a businessman from Bhopal rescued within hours of his family reporting his disappearance.

Police said the businessman, identified as Prem Singh Solanki, had travelled to Kolkata on September 24 after being contacted over a proposed deal involving antique products.

Instead of reaching a legitimate business meeting, he allegedly found himself being abducted and held for ransom.

The case was reported to the police by Solanki’s son, Rohit, who travelled to Kolkata after receiving a suspicious call from his father’s phone.

According to police sources, investigators moved quickly after the complaint and began using mobile-phone tower information to establish the whereabouts of both the victim and those allegedly holding him.

Business meeting turns into kidnapping.

Solanki, who operates an antique business in Bhopal, had reportedly been invited to Kolkata in connection with the sale of his merchandise.

After arriving at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, he was allegedly directed to an office in the Basirhat area. When he reached the purported destination, however, no one was there to receive him.

Police sources said Solanki became suspicious and began travelling back. During the journey, a group of four to five unidentified men allegedly intercepted his vehicle, forced him out and took him away.

The men subsequently contacted his family and demanded Rs 20 lakh for his release, according to the police.

Son flies to Kolkata and approaches police.

Once Rohit received the ransom demand, he travelled from Bhopal to Kolkata and approached the police station at NSCBI Airport.

Investigators then devised a plan aimed at identifying the kidnappers without alerting them.

Rohit was advised to communicate with the abductors and indicate that the family was prepared to arrange the money. He was also asked to persuade them to specify a place where the ransom could be handed over.

The strategy eventually produced a location on VIP Road.

Police laid a trap at the ransom meeting.

As the suspects arrived at the designated spot, police teams moved in. Three alleged kidnappers were apprehended,d and Solanki was brought to safety.

A white SUV believed to have been used during the abduction was also taken into custody, police sources said.

The swift operation brought the businessman home within roughly three hours of his son’s complaint, according to the account provided by the family.

Former Customs officials among suspects?

Police are now examining the backgrounds of the arrested men and trying to determine whether the case is connected to a larger network.

According to police sources, two of the suspects have claimed that they previously worked with the Customs Department. Investigators are checking the authenticity of those claims as part of the probe.

Officials are also examining whether the alleged kidnapping was an isolated crime or part of a wider interstate operation involving targets from different parts of the country.

‘I knew something was wrong’

Rohit said the first indication that his father was in trouble came through a call from Solanki’s own phone.

“We live in Bhopal, and I received a call from my father’s mobile asking for Rs 20 lakh,” he said.

Initially, Rohit did not suspect that anything serious had happened. But when he attempted to call his father back shortly afterwards, the circumstances appeared unusual. The subsequent ransom calls confirmed his fears, he said.

Rohit then travelled immediately to Kolkata and informed the police.

He credited the police response with bringing the ordeal to an end within a few hours, expressing gratitude for what he described as the prompt action of the officers.

The investigation into the suspects, their alleged links and the circumstances surrounding Solanki’s arrival in Kolkata is continuing.

कोलकाता: कारोबार के सिलसिले में कोलकाता पहुंचे भोपाल के एक कारोबारी के कथित अपहरण का मामला सामने आने के बाद पुलिस ने तेजी से कार्रवाई करते हुए कुछ ही घंटों में उसे सुरक्षित बरामद कर लिया।

पुलिस ने फिरौती की रकम देने के बहाने आरोपियों को एक तय स्थान पर बुलाया और वहां से तीन संदिग्धों को पकड़ लिया।

बरामद कारोबारी की पहचान प्रेम सिंह सोलंकी के रूप में हुई है। वह भोपाल में एंटीक यानी प्राचीन वस्तुओं का कारोबार करते हैं।

पुलिस के अनुसार, उन्हें कथित तौर पर उनके उत्पाद बेचने के सिलसिले में कोलकाता बुलाया गया था।

24 सितंबर को कोलकाता पहुंचने के बाद उन्हें बशीरहाट इलाके में एक कार्यालय में आने के लिए कहा गया। लेकिन वहां पहुंचने पर उन्हें कोई व्यक्ति नहीं मिला। लौटते समय कथित तौर पर कुछ लोगों ने उनकी कार को रास्ते में रोक लिया।

पुलिस के अनुसार, चार से पांच लोगों ने सोलंकी को वाहन से बाहर खींचा और जबरन अपने साथ ले गए। इसके बाद उनके परिवार से संपर्क कर उनकी रिहाई के बदले 20 लाख रुपये की मांग की गई।

बेटे ने कोलकाता पहुंचकर पुलिस को दी सूचना

फिरौती की मांग सामने आने के बाद सोलंकी के बेटे रोहित ने मामले को गंभीरता से लिया और तत्काल भोपाल से कोलकाता रवाना हुए।

उन्होंने नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाईअड्डा थाने में शिकायत दर्ज कराई। शिकायत मिलते ही पुलिस ने मामले की जांच शुरू की और संदिग्धों तथा सोलंकी के मोबाइल फोन की लोकेशन का पता लगाने के लिए मोबाइल टावर से मिलने वाली जानकारी का इस्तेमाल किया।

जांच के दौरान पुलिस ने परिवार को आरोपियों से बातचीत जारी रखने की सलाह दी। रोहित से कहा गया कि वह फिरौती देने की सहमति जताए और आरोपियों से रकम सौंपने की जगह पूछे।

VIP Road पर बिछाया गया जाल

पुलिस की रणनीति काम कर गई। कथित अपहरणकर्ताओं ने फिरौती की रकम लेने के लिए VIP Road पर एक स्थान तय किया।

जैसे ही संदिग्ध वहां पहुंचे, पुलिस टीम ने कार्रवाई करते हुए तीन लोगों को पकड़ लिया। इसी दौरान सोलंकी को भी उनके कब्जे से सुरक्षित निकाल लिया गया।

पुलिस ने कथित वारदात में इस्तेमाल की गई एक सफेद SUV भी अपने कब्जे में ली है।

परिवार के अनुसार, शिकायत दर्ज होने के लगभग तीन घंटे के भीतर पुलिस ने सोलंकी को सुरक्षित बरामद कर लिया।

क्या अंतरराज्यीय गिरोह से जुड़े हैं आरोपी?

अब जांच का अगला फोकस आरोपियों की पृष्ठभूमि और उनके संभावित नेटवर्क पर है।

पुलिस सूत्रों के अनुसार, पकड़े गए लोगों में से दो ने दावा किया है कि वे पहले सीमा शुल्क विभाग यानी Customs Department में अधिकारी रह चुके हैं। पुलिस अब इन दावों की पुष्टि कर रही है।

जांच एजेंसियां यह भी पता लगाने की कोशिश कर रही हैं कि क्या यह वारदात केवल इसी कारोबारी को निशाना बनाकर की गई थी या इसके पीछे किसी बड़े अंतरराज्यीय गिरोह की भूमिका है।

पिता के फोन से आया कॉल, बेटे को हुआ शक

रोहित ने बताया कि उन्हें सबसे पहले अपने पिता के मोबाइल फोन से एक कॉल मिला था, जिसमें 20 लाख रुपये की जरूरत बताई गई।

उन्होंने कहा कि शुरुआत में उन्हें लगा कि शायद कोई सामान्य जरूरत होगी। लेकिन करीब दो मिनट बाद जब उन्होंने उसी नंबर पर वापस फोन किया तो स्थिति उन्हें असामान्य लगी। इसके बाद फिरौती के फोन आने लगे और उन्हें समझ में आया कि उनके पिता मुश्किल में हैं।

रोहित ने बताया कि वह तुरंत कोलकाता पहुंचे और पुलिस से संपर्क किया।

उन्होंने पुलिस की त्वरित कार्रवाई के लिए आभार जताते हुए कहा कि अधिकारियों की सक्रियता के कारण उनके पिता को कुछ ही घंटों में सुरक्षित वापस लाया जा सका।

फिलहाल पुलिस पकड़े गए संदिग्धों से पूछताछ कर रही है और यह पता लगाने में जुटी है कि कारोबारी को किस योजना के तहत कोलकाता बुलाया गया था, अपहरण में कितने लोग शामिल थे और क्या आरोपियों के किसी बड़े अंतरराज्यीय नेटवर्क से संबंध हैं।
