BJP Alleges Irregular Land Allotment to Trust Linked to Mallikarjun Kharge; Congress Rejects Charges
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused the Siddharth Vihara Trust, which it said is associated with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family, of benefiting from irregular allotments of government land in Karnataka.
The Congress, however, strongly dismissed the allegations, calling them politically motivated.
Addressing a press conference, BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged that the trust had received several acres of valuable government and industrial land in Bengaluru, Kalaburagi and Banashankari.
According to him, the land was allotted for activities related to aerospace, defence and Pali research, despite the trust having no proven record of work in these sectors.
Bhandari further claimed that Mallikarjun Kharge and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge used their political influence to secure public land for the trust.
He specifically referred to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB)’s allotment of five acres of industrial land to the Siddharth Vihara Trust in 2024, alleging that the decision amounted to misuse of public resources.
Questioning the allotment, the BJP leader said the land should have been provided to institutions actively engaged in industrial development or aerospace research instead of a trust whose members allegedly included senior political leaders.
He maintained that the trust had neither undertaken research nor carried out projects in the fields for which the land was allotted.
Responding to the allegations, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge dismissed the BJP’s claims and said all documents related to the trust were already available in the public domain.
He accused the BJP of attempting to divert attention from larger issues through politically motivated allegations.
Taking a swipe at the ruling party, Priyank Kharge remarked that while many people continue to seek transparency regarding the accounts of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the BJP appeared more interested in questioning the functioning of a Buddhist institution in Kalaburagi.
He also defended himself by pointing out that the Narendra Modi-led government has been in power at the Centre for over a decade.
“If there had been any wrongdoing on my part, I would not be outside today,” Kharge said, asserting that no evidence of wrongdoing had been established against him.
The allegations and counter-allegations have added to the growing political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress ahead of key electoral battles, with both parties accusing each other of misusing public institutions for political gain.

भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) ने बुधवार को कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे और उनके परिवार से जुड़े बताए जा रहे सिद्धार्थ विहार ट्रस्ट पर कर्नाटक में सरकारी जमीन के आवंटन में अनियमितता के आरोप लगाए।
कांग्रेस ने इन आरोपों को पूरी तरह निराधार बताते हुए राजनीतिक बदले की कार्रवाई करार दिया।
भाजपा के राष्ट्रीय प्रवक्ता प्रदीप भंडारी ने प्रेस वार्ता में आरोप लगाया कि ट्रस्ट को बेंगलुरु, कलबुर्गी और बनशंकरी में कई एकड़ मूल्यवान सरकारी और औद्योगिक भूमि आवंटित की गई।
उनका दावा था कि यह जमीन एयरोस्पेस, रक्षा क्षेत्र और पाली शोध जैसे उद्देश्यों के नाम पर दी गई, जबकि ट्रस्ट का इन क्षेत्रों में कोई उल्लेखनीय कार्य या शोध नहीं रहा है।
भंडारी ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे और कर्नाटक सरकार में मंत्री प्रियंक खड़गे ने अपने राजनीतिक प्रभाव का इस्तेमाल कर सार्वजनिक भूमि ट्रस्ट के पक्ष में आवंटित कराई।
उन्होंने विशेष रूप से वर्ष 2024 में कर्नाटक इंडस्ट्रियल एरिया डेवलपमेंट बोर्ड (केआईएडीबी) द्वारा ट्रस्ट को पांच एकड़ औद्योगिक भूमि दिए जाने का उल्लेख करते हुए इसे सरकारी संसाधनों के दुरुपयोग का मामला बताया।
भाजपा नेता ने सवाल उठाया कि औद्योगिक उपयोग के लिए निर्धारित भूमि किसी ऐसे संस्थान को मिलनी चाहिए थी जो वास्तव में उद्योग, एयरोस्पेस या अनुसंधान के क्षेत्र में कार्य कर रहा हो। उनका आरोप था कि संबंधित ट्रस्ट ने इन क्षेत्रों में कोई वास्तविक परियोजना या शोध कार्य नहीं किया।
भाजपा के आरोपों पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए कर्नाटक के गृह मंत्री प्रियंक खड़गे ने कहा कि ट्रस्ट से जुड़े सभी दस्तावेज सार्वजनिक रूप से उपलब्ध हैं और किसी प्रकार की अनियमितता नहीं हुई है। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि भाजपा राजनीतिक लाभ के लिए इस मुद्दे को अनावश्यक रूप से उछाल रही है।
प्रियंक खड़गे ने तंज कसते हुए कहा कि जहां एक ओर लोग अयोध्या राम मंदिर के खातों में पारदर्शिता की मांग कर रहे हैं, वहीं भाजपा कलबुर्गी स्थित भगवान बुद्ध से जुड़े संस्थान का हिसाब मांगने में अधिक व्यस्त दिखाई दे रही है।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि केंद्र में नरेंद्र मोदी सरकार पिछले 12 वर्षों से सत्ता में है। यदि उनके खिलाफ किसी भी प्रकार की अवैध गतिविधि का कोई ठोस प्रमाण होता, तो वह आज खुले तौर पर सार्वजनिक जीवन में नहीं होते। उन्होंने सभी आरोपों को सिरे से खारिज करते हुए खुद को निर्दोष बताया।
इस मुद्दे ने भाजपा और कांग्रेस के बीच राजनीतिक टकराव को और तेज कर दिया है। दोनों दल एक-दूसरे पर सार्वजनिक संस्थाओं और सरकारी संसाधनों के राजनीतिक इस्तेमाल के आरोप लगाते हुए आमने-सामने आ गए हैं।
