Chitrakoot Floods Claim Lives as Mandakini Swells, Thousands Affected Across Uttar Pradesh
Four killed in rain-related incidents in Chitrakoot and Amethi; boats, disaster-response teams deployed as floodwaters enter homes and villages.
CHITRAKOOT: Heavy rain and rising river waters have deepened the crisis across parts of Uttar Pradesh, with four people losing their lives in separate incidents in Chitrakoot and Amethi as authorities stepped up evacuation and relief measures in flood-hit areas.
The worst tragedy was reported from Barachhi village in Chitrakoot, where a mud house gave way at around 2 am amid heavy rainfall.
A man and his two children died in the collapse, while his wife and another daughter sustained injuries, said a district official.
In Amethi, 66-year-old Shyamlal Chauhan died on Wednesday evening when a mud wall collapsed in Naya Purwa village, police said.
Meanwhile, Chitrakoot is facing a widening flood emergency following a sharp rise in the Mandakini river.
The surge has inundated scores of villages and prompted the administration to move residents from vulnerable locations to safer areas. The river level was recorded at 129.2 metres on Wednesday.
The impact has spread across 36 villages, where around 14,000 people are reported to have been affected.
Karwi tehsil accounts for 19 of the affected villages, while 10 fall in Manikpur and seven in Rajapur.
In several localities, water has entered houses and commercial establishments, leaving residents with little option but to move towards elevated areas.
With stretches of roads submerged and normal vehicular movement disrupted, rescue teams are relying on boats and motorboats to reach stranded people and shift them out of danger.
Relief operations have simultaneously been expanded on the ground.
Apart from the district administration and police, personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary, NDRF and SDRF are participating in rescue work. Motorboats are being used to access areas cut off by floodwater.
Food and essential supplies are also being delivered to affected families.
The administration has arranged cooked meals and ration kits, while people needing medical assistance are being examined and treated by health teams.
The flooding has also damaged residential properties. Nearly 500 houses have suffered partial damage, officials said, with compensation proceedings already initiated for 205 cases.
Eligible beneficiaries are receiving financial assistance directly in their bank accounts, while authorities have been instructed to accelerate payments in the remaining cases.
Families whose houses have been destroyed will be provided accommodation under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme, officials said.
Garg said the administration was keeping a close watch on the Mandakini and had directed officials to ensure that relief supplies reach affected areas without delay.
Officials have also been asked to promptly upload beneficiary details and complete compensation-related procedures.
The situation extends well beyond Chitrakoot. Flood-like conditions have been reported in 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with inundation affecting 22 districts.
So far, 1,528 people have been evacuated to safer locations as rescue and relief operations continue.
Among the affected districts are Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Ballia, Barabanki, Badaun, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Hapur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, Unnao and Varanasi.
Authorities have established 742 flood-relief posts across the affected areas. A fleet of 452 boats and motorboats, along with 225 medical teams, has been deployed for emergency response and assistance.
For displaced residents, 105 relief centres are currently functioning with arrangements for accommodation, food, medicines and other necessities.
Together, these centres have provisions to shelter about 2,460 people.
The administration is also making arrangements to safeguard livestock in the affected areas. Around 310 quintals of fodder have been supplied as part of the relief effort.
With water levels being closely watched and rescue teams continuing their field operations, officials said priority remains on evacuating vulnerable residents, ensuring essential supplies reach affected communities, and processing assistance for families whose homes have been damaged.

चित्रकूट: उत्तर प्रदेश में लगातार बारिश और नदियों के बढ़ते जलस्तर ने कई इलाकों में मुश्किलें बढ़ा दी हैं।
चित्रकूट और अमेठी में बारिश से जुड़ी अलग-अलग घटनाओं में चार लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि चित्रकूट में मंदाकिनी नदी के उफान से हजारों लोग प्रभावित हुए हैं।
प्रशासन ने संवेदनशील इलाकों से लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाने के साथ राहत एवं बचाव अभियान तेज कर दिया है।
चित्रकूट के बराछी गांव में गुरुवार तड़के करीब दो बजे एक कच्चा मकान अचानक ढह गया। हादसे में एक व्यक्ति और उसके दो बच्चों की जान चली गई।
उसकी पत्नी और एक अन्य बेटी घायल हो गईं। जिलाधिकारी पुलकित गर्ग ने घटना की जानकारी दी।
अमेठी में भी बारिश के दौरान कच्ची दीवार गिरने से एक बुजुर्ग की मौत हो गई। पुलिस के मुताबिक नयापुरवा गांव में बुधवार शाम दीवार गिरने से 66 वर्षीय श्यामलाल चौहान की जान चली गई।
चित्रकूट में अलग चिंता मंदाकिनी नदी के तेजी से बढ़ते जलस्तर को लेकर है। नदी में अचानक आए उफान के कारण जिले के कई गांव बाढ़ की चपेट में आ गए हैं।
बुधवार को नदी का जलस्तर 129.2 मीटर दर्ज किया गया, जिसके बाद प्रशासन ने निचले इलाकों में रहने वाले लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाना शुरू किया।
बाढ़ का असर जिले के 36 गांवों में बताया गया है और करीब 14 हजार लोग प्रभावित हुए हैं। इनमें कर्वी तहसील के 19, मानिकपुर के 10 और राजापुर तहसील के सात गांव शामिल हैं।
कई इलाकों में बाढ़ का पानी घरों और दुकानों तक पहुंच गया है।
सड़कों पर पानी भरने से सामान्य आवागमन प्रभावित हुआ है और कई जगह वाहनों की आवाजाही संभव नहीं रह गई।
ऐसे स्थानों पर नावों और मोटरबोट के जरिए लोगों को बाहर निकालकर सुरक्षित इलाकों तक पहुंचाया जा रहा है।
राहत कार्य में जिला प्रशासन और पुलिस के साथ प्रांतीय सशस्त्र कांस्टेबुलरी (PAC), राष्ट्रीय आपदा मोचन बल (NDRF) और राज्य आपदा मोचन बल (SDRF) की टीमें लगी हैं।
मोटरबोट की मदद से बाढ़ में फंसे लोगों तक पहुंचकर उन्हें आवश्यक सहायता उपलब्ध कराई जा रही है।
प्रभावित परिवारों के लिए भोजन और जरूरी सामान की व्यवस्था भी की गई है। प्रशासन की ओर से पके हुए भोजन के पैकेट और राशन किट बांटे जा रहे हैं।
स्वास्थ्य संबंधी जरूरत वाले लोगों की जांच कर उन्हें आवश्यक उपचार उपलब्ध कराया जा रहा है।
बाढ़ से मकानों को भी नुकसान पहुंचा है। अधिकारियों के अनुसार करीब 500 घर आंशिक रूप से क्षतिग्रस्त हुए हैं। इनमें से 205 मामलों में मुआवजे की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर दी गई है।
पात्र लोगों के बैंक खातों में सीधे सहायता राशि भेजी जा रही है और बाकी मामलों में भी भुगतान प्रक्रिया तेज करने के निर्देश दिए गए हैं।
पूरी तरह ध्वस्त हो चुके मकानों के परिवारों को मुख्यमंत्री आवास योजना के तहत रहने की सुविधा उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी।
जिलाधिकारी पुलकित गर्ग ने मंदाकिनी के जलस्तर पर लगातार नजर रखने के निर्देश दिए हैं।
उन्होंने अधिकारियों से यह सुनिश्चित करने को कहा है कि राहत सामग्री पहुंचाने में कोई देरी न हो तथा पात्र लाभार्थियों का विवरण अपलोड करने और मुआवजा संबंधी दावों के निस्तारण की प्रक्रिया समय पर पूरी की जाए।
चित्रकूट के अलावा उत्तर प्रदेश के कई अन्य जिलों में भी बाढ़ जैसी स्थिति बनी हुई है। कुल 31 जिलों में ऐसी स्थिति बताई गई है, जबकि 22 जिले जलभराव से प्रभावित हैं।
अब तक 1,528 लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाया जा चुका है और बचाव तथा राहत अभियान जारी है।
प्रभावित जिलों में अयोध्या, आजमगढ़, बलिया, बाराबंकी, बदायूं, चंदौली, चित्रकूट, फर्रुखाबाद, गाजीपुर, गोरखपुर, हापुड़, हरदोई, कासगंज, लखीमपुर खीरी, मिर्जापुर, मुरादाबाद, प्रयागराज, संत कबीर नगर, शाहजहांपुर, सीतापुर, उन्नाव और वाराणसी समेत अन्य जिले शामिल हैं।
बाढ़ प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में राहत व्यवस्था के लिए 742 राहत चौकियां स्थापित की गई हैं। बचाव कार्य में 452 नावों और मोटरबोट के साथ 225 चिकित्सा दल लगाए गए हैं।
प्रशासन ने विस्थापित लोगों के लिए 105 राहत केंद्र भी संचालित किए हैं। इन केंद्रों में करीब 2,460 लोगों के ठहरने की व्यवस्था है और भोजन, दवाओं तथा अन्य जरूरी वस्तुओं की उपलब्धता सुनिश्चित की गई है।
बाढ़ प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में पशुधन की सुरक्षा के लिए भी कदम उठाए गए हैं। अधिकारियों के अनुसार करीब 310 क्विंटल चारे की व्यवस्था की जा चुकी है।
फिलहाल प्रशासन का मुख्य जोर संवेदनशील इलाकों से लोगों को सुरक्षित निकालने, प्रभावित परिवारों तक राहत सामग्री पहुंचाने और क्षतिग्रस्त मकानों के लिए सहायता उपलब्ध कराने पर है।
मंदाकिनी के जलस्तर की लगातार निगरानी के बीच राहत और बचाव दल प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में सक्रिय हैं।
