CJP Protest Intensifies After Police Action; Leaders Continue Sit-in, Sonam Wangchuk Vows to Continue Hunger Strike
New Delhi: The agitation led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) gathered further momentum on Monday despite a police crackdown, with senior leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Gitanjali Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, continuing their sit-in outside Kerala House.
Several protesters and security personnel were reportedly injured during clashes as authorities dismantled tents and temporary structures erected by demonstrators while attempting to stop their march towards Parliament.
Currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, Sonam Wangchuk said he would continue his hunger strike until students are allowed to raise their concerns in Parliament.
His statement came as security forces intensified efforts to disperse protesters and clear the demonstration site.
Earlier in the day, CJP representatives Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka met Union Minister J.P. Nadda and submitted three key demands.
These included the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy.
As a precautionary measure, mobile internet services around Jantar Mantar and the Parliament area were suspended.
Several prominent Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal, extended support to the protesters and criticised what they described as excessive use of force by the police.
The issue also echoed inside Parliament, where repeated Opposition sloganeering over the alleged NEET paper leak led to frequent disruptions during the Monsoon Session.
Monday marked the 23rd day of the CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar, which has witnessed rapid developments over the past few days.
On Saturday, Delhi Police shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest venue to Safdarjung Hospital, citing concerns over his deteriorating health.
Following Wangchuk’s removal, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke began an indefinite hunger strike at the protest site.
However, he ended his fast on Monday morning after receiving a message from Wangchuk, who advised him to conserve his strength for the continuation of the movement.
Addressing supporters, Gitanjali Angmo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk, described the day’s protest march as a major success.
She said the movement had succeeded in drawing nationwide attention to issues concerning education and maintained that the protesters would not place their trust in the government until their demands were accepted.
A widely circulated video from the protest site showed a lone demonstrator surrounded by several security personnel during the police action.
In the footage, the man could be heard repeatedly shouting, “Maaro, sir,” while allegedly being struck with batons.
The video also showed a policewoman carrying the national flag intervening and attempting to move him away from the confrontation.
The protester later identified himself as Bharat Banait from Nagpur. Claiming he had sustained injuries across his body, he alleged that around 15 to 20 personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) assaulted him during the operation.
He described the agitation as a student-led movement and criticised the government’s handling of the protest.
Following the clashes, Additional Commissioner of Police Rajeev Ranjan appealed to demonstrators to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
In a video message shared on social media platform X, he urged protesters to conduct their demonstrations peacefully, avoid unlawful or violent activities and comply with lawful directions issued by police personnel on duty.
Despite the police action, CJP leaders signalled that the agitation would continue. Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation would not withdraw its protest until Dharmendra Pradhan resigned.
In a post on X, he claimed the movement had compelled the government to engage in dialogue and vowed to continue the campaign until its objectives were achieved.
In another message, he criticised the Centre for not responding to the protesters’ demands and questioned whether the government’s only response would be police action.
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk reaffirmed his determination to continue his hunger strike until Members of Parliament meet CJP representatives and allow students’ concerns to be raised inside Parliament.
In a handwritten message shared on X, he reiterated his demand for accountability from the Union Education Minister over the alleged NEET paper leak and called for students’ voices to be heard in the country’s highest democratic forum.

नई दिल्ली: पुलिस की कार्रवाई के बावजूद कॉकरोच जनता पार्टी (सीजेपी) का आंदोलन सोमवार को और तेज होता नजर आया। संगठन के संस्थापक अभिजीत डिपके, नेता सौरव दास, आशुतोष रांका तथा सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता सोनम वांगचुक की पत्नी गीतांजलि आंगमो ने केरल हाउस के बाहर धरना जारी रखा।
संसद की ओर बढ़ रहे प्रदर्शनकारियों को रोकने के दौरान पुलिस ने आंदोलन स्थल पर लगाए गए टेंट और अन्य अस्थायी ढांचों को हटाया। इस कार्रवाई में कई प्रदर्शनकारियों और सुरक्षा कर्मियों के घायल होने की खबर है।
सफदरजंग अस्पताल में भर्ती सोनम वांगचुक ने कहा कि जब तक छात्रों की आवाज संसद में नहीं उठाई जाती, तब तक वह अपनी भूख हड़ताल समाप्त नहीं करेंगे।
उन्होंने कहा कि आंदोलन का उद्देश्य केवल जवाबदेही सुनिश्चित करना है और यह संघर्ष तब तक जारी रहेगा जब तक छात्रों की मांगों को गंभीरता से नहीं सुना जाता।
दिन के दौरान सीजेपी नेताओं सौरव दास और आशुतोष रांका ने केंद्रीय मंत्री जे.पी. नड्डा से मुलाकात कर संगठन की तीन प्रमुख मांगें उनके समक्ष रखीं।
इनमें सोनम वांगचुक की तत्काल रिहाई, केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान का इस्तीफा तथा नीट प्रश्नपत्र लीक मामले के बाद कथित रूप से आत्महत्या करने वाले छात्रों के परिजनों को एक-एक करोड़ रुपये का मुआवजा शामिल है।
सुरक्षा व्यवस्था के मद्देनजर जंतर-मंतर और संसद परिसर के आसपास मोबाइल इंटरनेट सेवाएं भी बंद कर दी गईं।
आंदोलन को कई विपक्षी नेताओं का समर्थन भी मिला। राहुल गांधी, ममता बनर्जी, अखिलेश यादव और अरविंद केजरीवाल ने प्रदर्शनकारियों के प्रति एकजुटता व्यक्त करते हुए पुलिस की कार्रवाई की आलोचना की।
वहीं संसद के मानसून सत्र के दौरान भी कथित नीट पेपर लीक मुद्दे पर विपक्ष के लगातार विरोध और नारेबाजी के कारण कार्यवाही बार-बार बाधित रही।
सोमवार को जंतर-मंतर पर चल रहे सीजेपी आंदोलन का 23वां दिन था। बीते कुछ दिनों में आंदोलन ने कई महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ देखे हैं। शनिवार को दिल्ली पुलिस ने स्वास्थ्य संबंधी कारणों का हवाला देते हुए सोनम वांगचुक को प्रदर्शन स्थल से हटाकर सफदरजंग अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया था।
वांगचुक को अस्पताल ले जाने के बाद संगठन के संस्थापक अभिजीत डिपके ने आंदोलन स्थल पर आमरण अनशन शुरू कर दिया था। हालांकि सोमवार सुबह उन्होंने वांगचुक के संदेश के बाद अपना उपवास समाप्त कर दिया।
संदेश में वांगचुक ने उनसे आंदोलन को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए अपनी ऊर्जा बचाए रखने की अपील की थी।
सोनम वांगचुक की पत्नी गीतांजलि आंगमो ने दिनभर चले प्रदर्शन को बड़ी सफलता बताते हुए कहा कि इस आंदोलन ने देशभर का ध्यान शिक्षा व्यवस्था की ओर आकर्षित किया है।
उन्होंने कहा कि जब तक सरकार उनकी मांगें स्वीकार नहीं करती, तब तक उस पर भरोसा करना संभव नहीं है।
पुलिस कार्रवाई के दौरान सामने आए एक वीडियो ने व्यापक चर्चा बटोरी। वीडियो में एक अकेला प्रदर्शनकारी कई सुरक्षाकर्मियों से घिरा दिखाई देता है, जो कथित तौर पर उस पर लाठियां बरसा रहे थे।
इस दौरान वह लगातार “मारो सर” कहता सुनाई देता है। कुछ देर बाद हाथ में तिरंगा लिए एक महिला पुलिसकर्मी बीच-बचाव करती नजर आती है और उसे वहां से हटाने का प्रयास करती है।
बाद में उस प्रदर्शनकारी ने अपनी पहचान नागपुर निवासी भारत बनैत के रूप में बताई। उनका आरोप था कि उनके सिर समेत पूरे शरीर पर चोटें आई हैं और रैपिड एक्शन फोर्स (आरएएफ) के लगभग 15 से 20 जवानों ने उन्हें पीटा।
उन्होंने कहा कि यह छात्रों का आंदोलन है और इसके खिलाफ सरकार की कार्रवाई की वह कड़ी निंदा करते हैं।
घटनाक्रम के बाद दिल्ली पुलिस के अतिरिक्त पुलिस आयुक्त राजीव रंजन ने प्रदर्शनकारियों से संयम बरतने और कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखने में सहयोग करने की अपील की।
सोशल मीडिया मंच एक्स पर जारी वीडियो संदेश में उन्होंने कहा कि प्रदर्शन शांतिपूर्ण ढंग से किया जाए, किसी भी गैरकानूनी या हिंसक गतिविधि से बचा जाए तथा ड्यूटी पर तैनात पुलिसकर्मियों के वैधानिक निर्देशों का पालन किया जाए।
पुलिस कार्रवाई के बावजूद सीजेपी नेताओं ने स्पष्ट किया कि आंदोलन समाप्त नहीं होगा। आशुतोष रांका ने कहा कि जब तक धर्मेंद्र प्रधान अपने पद से इस्तीफा नहीं देते, तब तक आंदोलन जारी रहेगा।
एक्स पर साझा किए गए अपने संदेश में उन्होंने दावा किया कि आंदोलन ने सरकार को बातचीत के लिए मजबूर कर दिया है।
एक अन्य पोस्ट में उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार की ओर से अभी तक कोई ठोस जवाब नहीं मिला है और सवाल उठाया कि क्या सरकार की प्रतिक्रिया केवल पुलिस कार्रवाई तक ही सीमित रहेगी।
उधर, सोनम वांगचुक ने भी अपने संकल्प को दोहराते हुए कहा कि सांसदों द्वारा सीजेपी नेताओं से मुलाकात करने और छात्रों की आवाज संसद में उठाए जाने तक उनका अनशन जारी रहेगा।
एक्स पर साझा किए गए अपने हस्तलिखित संदेश में उन्होंने कथित नीट पेपर लीक मामले में केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री से जवाबदेही तय करने की मांग दोहराई और कहा कि देश के छात्रों की आवाज लोकतंत्र के सर्वोच्च मंच तक पहुंचनी चाहिए।
